Unless you physically wall the entire city in with no exits except for a shuttle port I dont see how city layout can be considered griefing.

Griefing would be to make a complete solid square town with no opening and have the only way in and out the shuttleport and have somebody around banning any opposite faction player from using the shuttle the second they arrive. At that point you have them trapped so that there is no way to escape. In that case I am sure you could petition and the csr would likely be to do something about it. As long as you can leave on foot I don't see a problem infact forcing people to go through choke points to get to a faction base is a really smart idea.

hehe If i ever saw a faction base and a cloning and shuttle surrounded by a square of medium houses leaving no exit!

I would go COOOOL!!!!!!

Imagine the effort the creators had gone through building this! I cant se a problem here. I would be stupid to walk into this town if it was an Enemy city of opposite faction. Imagine me getting detected by scanners or banned by militia

Personally, I dont see a problem with how someone designs their city. I doubt you will get an official response...Last I heard is that going to a player city is voluntary.

The problem comes down to this: Houses can't be demolished. Therefore surrounding you opponents objective with a wall that is impervious to attack amounts to an abuse of the game world.

If houses could be demolished, this would not be a problem, since an attacker could carve a breach through the wall.

The fact that houses can be made into a wall is actually a bug. Using this bug makes it an exploit. The intent was to always have a space around houses, so you could not achieve the Ultima Online syndrome of blocking someones castle with tents, or the World War II online syndrome of blocking flags with burning tanks that could not be moved through.

Just thought off an analogy that applies here. Would you play chess against someone who gets to have his King outside the board? You could never have check mate. Therefore the game of chess looses its meaning.

If Vicimus were to place a wall around the city, in all honesty it would only be on the South and East sides of the city. We have ocean to the North and West. Still a good question for anyone else thinking of it. Seems differeing CSRs may react in different ways to it.

I like the idea of building walls around a city for militia purposes.

I don't see it as an exploit except if you surround the city (no exits) and ban anyone coming via shuttleport...

Other than that.. it is just like urban warfare you just have to walk around the buildings. (rarely you see military wanton destruction of buildings) you go around it.. get ambush.. etc etc...

Thus.. it is not an exploit.

I can't provide proof since you can't quote the old boards ( ) however the developers said back then that homes should always have a small alleyway between them (like 2 smalls or a small against a large) so as to prevent forming walls and blocking people from getting to places. I don't mind "walls" if they are just used to enhance a street or something along those lines. However as soon as you wall in a faction base you aren't doing it to look nice your doing it so that enemies cannot attack without surviving a minefield (and therefore a TEF) before getting to range.

Renu spewed...

Would you consider walking through a 'gap' in the wall an exploit? Seeing as how walls were never intended?

You really want to go through this again? It's exploiting, your own guild members admitted it was exploiting, and here you are on a different forum searching for justification for walking through solid objects? Go away...this is not the thread you're looking for.

Yup it was on the forums somewhere. It hasn't been fixed because of the huge amount of work required, and questions of what to do with previously existing buildings. They would basically have to modify and test the art for every house that can be butted together.

Makkil where did you read that houses adjoining to make a wall was a but? And how many houses? Two? Four? Ten? Every city I've seen has made streets with rows of houses placed togethr. I don't ever remember reading anything about it being a bug or an exploit or a limiit on the number of houses that can be placed in a row. I would like to see the quote on this please & since many types of houses & structures can be places together already then why hasn't there been any announcement or change on it yet?
