Thread: Politician Forum Poll
I'd like to gather some information on the group of politician players we have here on the forum. If you wouldn't mind answering these poll questions, they may serve as a useful form of information and could be a way to get to know each other a bit better.
1. How far along are yourpolitician skills now? (ex: 2, 3, 4, 1)
2. Have you already sold back any politician skills for skill points? Which skills?
3. How many citizens does your city have?
4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get?
5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor?
6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA?
7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account?
8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business?
9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician?
10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations?
Thanks folks.
I'll answer too.
1. How far along are yourpolitician skills now? (ex: 2, 3, 4, 1) 2/4/2/2
2. Have you already sold back any politician skills for skill points? Which skills? No
3. How many citizens does your city have? ~50
4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get? No
5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor? Yes
6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA? Private now, but not originally, not PA focussed
7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account? Yes my main (and only char)
8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business? about 20(?)
9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician? Architect, dropped secondary combat skills and merchant to pursue politician
10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations? No
1- 3 2 2 3, planning on 4 2 2 3 next election
2- Not yet and I'm not sure I will yet. Depends on what happens with the profession between now and the time I reach master
3- 64 (or was that 65?) last night
4- Not yet
5- yes
6- Private, and we have two PAs in dominance, although we do have freelance citizens as well
7- I had orginally created Pro'ly with the intent of her being my alternate; however, I have found I truly enjoy being a crafter, and it is quite time consuming
8- Maybe 2 hours per week, but then I have little trouble with my citizens. In the beginning, however, I spent *all* my online time getting the city populated, et al, for a total of almost 40 hours per week for the first 3 or 4 weeks. Was quite exhausting <grins>
9- My (then) main character (Edwina)was Master Scout, Master Creature Handler, and well on her way to Master Squad Leader. Pro'ly was created strictly with Politician in mind, and I picked up Artisan and Architect to help build the city things.
10- We are currently using the Manufacturing Center specialization, but because I personally have seen no benefit, will be removing it quite soon. I might try out Research Center once I am able to set that just to see, but according to other posts I've read, it's not worth it either.
1. 4,3,2,3
2. No, but I plan to once I hit master unless things change.
3. 95
4. Not really, my PA has offline elections so that the winner gets 100% of the XP. One person ran against me and voted for himself with his 3 accounts.
5. Yes
6. Mostly public, put Imps are not welcome. Zoning rights is activated so you have to get persmission to build. 70% of the city is my PA, but have 2 other PAs in town and a number of independents.
7. My only character.
8. 8 or so, always responding to tells about being a resident, granting zoning rights, checking out how people placed things. But most of the things I do as mayor I was doing before the class even existed. Using skills granted by the official mayor class is an hour or less per week. 15 minutes to get trained, then 45 minutes putting in the new things I can now do with the skills I received.
9. Architect, still have it. Only way to cost effectively build a city if you ask me.
10. Research specialization
1. How far along are yourpolitician skills now?
- 4/3/2/4
2. Have you already sold back any politician skills for skill points? Which skills?
- No
3. How many citizens does your city have?
- 135-140 (some leaving, more moving in).
4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get?
- No, I have run uncontested.
5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor?
- I was elected to be the Mayor by the group I play with in April 2003, prior to game release. I will be leaving office in the next few months.
6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA?
- Nabubu City has zoning activated, but is open to all that want to live there and will pay taxes. The zoning is in place to ensure that the city leaders meet all citizens in the course of helping them place a house, and so our layout and streets follow our plans.
7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account?
- My main, and only character on my server.
8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business?
- 6-12
9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician?
- Jack-of-all-trades until Politician was released, but mostly Artisan/Pistoleer. Now Politician/Pistoleer.
10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations?
- We have used Cloning Spec, manufacturing Spec, and are now using the Research Spec.
- Currently 0,0,2,4
- Yes. Was formerly 3,2,2,4 and about to get x,3,3,x advancement before i dropped the skills.
- I should know this...but I'm not certain. I believe we're sitting at 65 citizens currently.
- Yes, one opponent. Usually only garnered 3-5 votes each week.
- I became mayor after the first week. Would have been Mayor at the onset but the 'great land rush' happened while I was at work.
- We are a private city in that we have the zoning enabled. However our citizenry consists of 2 PAs and several non-PA folks.
- Main.
- Several. We started a City Chat from which I'd try to remember to join each day. We also have our own forums from which decisions are made and information is gathered. In-game I've spent less and less time as an adminstrator as our requisite City Facilities were placed and became more and more simply a landscaper, in a sense.
- Doctor. Kept most of it as I became a Poli.
- We are currently using the 'Manufacturing Center' specialization, testing it to see it's effectiveness before attempting to implement any of the higher cost ones down the line.
1) I am 2-4-3-4 currently.
2) I haven't sold back any of my skill points.
3) My city currently has 86 citizens and growing.
4) I haven't had any opponents in my elections.
5) I wasn't mayor the first week because of absence, became mayor the 2nd week.
6) Our city is private. The city is ran by a city council consisting of 4 PAs (2 representatives each) and me.
7) My politician is my only character I have on SWG, don't have any other chars on other servers.
8) I spend probably 10 hours a week taking care of the city's needsand answering any and all questions.
9) My profession before politician was Master Merchant. I still am a merchant, however it is becoming harder to become what I want now because of Politician, but it is a worthy sacrifice.
10) My city is currently not using a specialization. After seeing these boards and most mayors saying it is defunt, I rather wait until they are working properly or better before the city spends the money to get one.

1. How far along are yourpolitician skills now? (ex: 2, 3, 4, 1) 2231
2. Have you already sold back any politician skills for skill points? Which skills? NO
3. How many citizens does your city have? 68
4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get? A couple people ran against me (we have predetermined senate and plan on rotating mayorship among our 'senate', those who ran were new citizens or our other politicians just testing terminal... they maybe got 1 vote)
5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor? Placed into office, I was voted the first official mayor by citizens out of game before cities started. Our 'placing' mayor placed because he was first back to spot on landrush day to secure our city (we had an 8 person 'strike team' in place that day waiting for servers to come up)
6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA? Restricted, we have a pre-planned layout and design. City is comprised of 6 PA's who run city on a senate. Senate makes city decisions. Mayor just implements. ***would be nice to have game design that allows this as official feature.. rather than mayor having complete and utter control***
7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account? Yes, it is my main and only character.
8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business? In excess of 10 hours now. During our first four weeks of 'growth', I often spent in excess of 30 hours in the city per week. This was just 'in-case' i was needed and to make sure new people got settled even though we had a miltitia.. also to build repoirre
9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician? master dancer/merchant. dropped dancer as i just stopped dancing after mastery months ago.. don't know why i kept it this long.
10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations? No, the expense is too high, most of them are worthless, and you can't really see tangible difference for those who do have them.
Bajeezus wrote:1. How far along are your politician skills now? (ex: 2, 3, 4, 1)
2,2,2,22. Have you already sold back any politician skills for skill points? Which skills?
Not yet, though I may after making master if they don't make higher level politician good for anything other than changing specializations or dropping gardens.3. How many citizens does your city have?
We currently have 37, and are growing slowly a little intentionally to make sure our residents are folks who are going to be interested and active in city life. We aren't spamming and hunting to try and get anyone and everyone to move to town, because we don't want residents who someone has just talked into moving there.4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get?
I've had no opponents so far, no other residents seem willing to spend the required skill points.5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor?
I was the politician that dropped the city hall.6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA?
We have restricted zoning only to preserve the city layout. We usually drop the resident's structure and transfer it to them so we can keep our streets intact. A PA was responsible for founding the city, but most of our residents are not members, and opinions of non-members on city issues are just as important to me as the interests of my guildmates. Anyone with an interest in our area is welcome to become a citizen.7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account?
My politician is my main character, though I'm currently thinking of creating a second account because of skill point limitations. Even if I get a second character, my politician will always be my main character and the one I play most often.8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business?
I spend about 75% of my in-game time in my city and quite a lot of time talking to residents. But actual city business probably only takes me 3-5 hours a week.9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician?
My primary professions were tailor/artisan/merchant and a little pistoleer. I've had to drop all of pistoleer and some merchant so far. I will probably need to drop most of merchant to take all the politician skills.10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations?
