From the patch 6 pulbish notes:
"Citizens will now be removed from a city if they haven't been online for about 3 weeks."
Eep!

One has to suspect that players who are taking a break from SWG, or who are away for extended periods are going to be unhappy, as are the cities they live in. I realize that this is intended to prevent cross server trades, but I'm not sure it's going to be effective in that...people who want to do that type of thing will anyways, from what I've seen. (I'm not sure I approve of it, but this isn't the way to stop it...)

Actually it's the best way to stop it. If you are asking someone to relog onto a character for an hour a week just so they can get 5 extra factories or a PA hall they are just gonna say skip it and look for another crafter to lot swap with. While the 3 weeks may seem a little bit low that can be tweaked. I'd say at least a month since we are paying for that much playtime.

Bad Bad Bad Bad.. A city shouldn't suffer if a player likes to take breaks, or finds that playing an alt on another server is more exciting.Or god forbid someone have a life outside the game.. I know I took a month break at one point.
If there's maint in the house, it should stay, and its resident should too.

I'mmore or lessfor it. It'll totally cane the cities that made use of cross-server citizen swaps, and free up some size cap slots for cities with real citizens.
It does rather suck from the players taking a break thing, but hopefully there shouldn't be too many of them at once. Perhaps if the numbers regarding city shrinkage were tweaked. For instance so you go up to size 3 at 35, as usual, but you don't go back to size two until to go down to 32 or something. That'd give a little wriggle room.

That might be helpful, Arkenor. I'm not wild about it, but as I said in the title, I'm not sure. I understand the need to eliminate cross server trades and open the caps for real cities, but SWG seems to have a lot of people saying that they're going to keep their account active and simply not play for a while. (Quite a few in our allegiance have done so, whether deliberately or simply passively.) I'm not sure it will hurt us badly, but I could foresee a scenario in which it might do so. I guess the question I'm left with is whether the benefits outweigh the potential costs or not...

This is a BIG NO!!! Baj, can u stop this.....So what this does is force people to play and log on....We all pay our monthly fee so if someone is away for a few weeks it shouldnt be up to SOE to decide what happens to my account.....What would happen if they mayor didnt log on in 3 weeks due toRL things....Gonna kick us out of the city to even though our residents is city hall......
I for one do not want SOE deciding on what to do with my citizens...I saw in the patch notes that wemay getthe ability to remove players at the terminal. That should begood enough.
For those of you thinking that this will take care of the server swapping your missing one thing.....All ya have to do is log in once every 3 weeks. Ifa city loses a resident then just go to the other server and remind the guy/gal.
Im so glad that they are working on all of our ideas..NOT.....

Actually they will probably have a minimum number of hours per the 3week (I say it should really be a month minimum) so it will eventually become a pain in the ass for your false citizen and they'll just quit doing it. It won'tsolce thingsright off the bat but I'm sure it will.
Maybe the mayor should be able to allow for extended leaves for a certain number of citizens. If half your town has something coming up that will keep them off the game fora fewmonth, well then you need to do a membership drive. But if about 5 or 10 people won't be able to be on for a few months you should "pardon" them for their abscence and keep them within the city.

Seriously... I mean, we already have to contend with the bug that keeps people's houses long after they cancel their accounts if they have maintenance in them, at least get rid of the house if you're going to boot the citizenship.
This has serious issues just dripping out of it. They can't stop people doing server swaps outside of only allowing you to play on one server per account, which would be lame enough to make me cancel.

Oh yeah, that'd be a great idea.. "You gotta play 5 hours a week or else your stuff disappears on the servers that you don't play on.." ugh...

Or 1 hour (tweakable and unforseen)a month...because...you know, it is going by 3 weeks not 1.

I think this is a good idea. It does not say the house will go poof, jus their citizenship is revoked. Next time they walk in the house, bam they are a citizen again.

..and if they've cancelled, but put 50k of maint in their small house before they did? I've got a house in my city with no resident and no way to get rid of it to put a real person in it...

I wonder exaclty how they will implement this. Will they change that person to not be declared at that residence and just have to redo it if they are off longer than 3 weeks?
