This also does not solve the problem of active players who are registered citizens of a city in which they are not residents and own no structures... what about those players who login every day but are not part of a given city? What is being done about double citizenship?

Exitio,

That is a different issue. There are tons of structures all over, mostly harvestors, that are owned by cancelled accounts.

It's a different issue that is going to be further magnified by this new change. They're just making matters worse without providing ways to rectify them. Let us withdraw maint if we're admins to hasten the natural destruction or something.

I see your point if all your buildable land is taken up. At least you are still getting property tax.

I can see how this will be a problem for some folks.

3 weeks? eck make it a month at least. or better yet dont do it, the players stuff isnt going poof just the citizenship...that means if part of the city takes a break...eck thats not very nice, i know they were discussing how cities would rise and fall but i see this as rise and immeadiately fall...

Three wekks is too short:

  • Vacations

  • Travel for work (Not all of us are office guys, I travel often and can be away for work for more than three weeks.)

  • Unexpected accidents (Family death having you travel to place of your parents, road accident, whatever).

I'm the first to say ghost citizens are a problem, but it's just too short. I'd say at least two months.

A better way to fix the same issue, or at least lessen it would be for a character to have amassed 10 play hours (or whatever. Pick a number. ) before they can declare residence anywhere.

Had another thought on this stupid idea that the Devs have.

Just an example: Lets say Im a level 4 city with exactly 55 residents...If I have someone out for 3 weeks then I am now at 54. Hmmm just lost level 4 ranking because someone had a RL thing. So now I have to scramble to find a resident to fill the void so I dont lose my shuttle before the next city update. Lets say I cant find another resident in time because maybe I dont have the time that week to really play due to, eeekkk RL.

So, do I let my shuttle go by-by? Think not. get ready for more of this on the forums. "Trade character on blah blah server for character on ur server. Just need to borrow the character for 3 weeks"

Yes, we all should have a few extra citizens but that is not the point.

Real Situation: A little while after we got the city hall placed one of our members went on a 3 1/2 week vacation (those darn Euro players...lol) During his absense we took care of his house but when it came time for our level 4 update we made it exactly in time. With thislame potential feature it would of cost us level 4 even though the person who was on vacation logs in a number of player hours.

I can only imagine the CSR tickets on this feature if its added....

I dont recall us ever asking SOE to add this....

One last thing for us all to now think about:

I play this GAME for enjoyment and not work. This patch will now make me/you have to gmail, email, forum post ect....to always have peoples schedules. Think about when summercomes. This is a joke. I have to keep a spread sheet of every citizen and tell them that they have to always tell me if they are going to be offline for 3 weeks. I have someone in our City/Guild who just had a baby....Dont expect to see him for at least a month.

This may end up not being a big deal but it could be for many people. How bout the folks who have just a level 1 city and have exactly 10(whatever the number is)people/friends. So much for the casual player game.

And if anyone is thinking thatwhy I am not happy about this isbecause we have barely enough citizens for a level 4 well that isnt the case. We have 69.We have purposely grown slowly so that there are fun adults in our city.Like many of you,we as well have taken the time to make sure we dont have idiots in our city ruining it for others.

I'll take whatever the opinions are in this thread to Thunderheart, but I want to be sure that everyone who is a part of this forum community gets a chance to be heard, so I'll wait another day to forward it to him.

In the next day, I really do want to see how you deal with the argument that this new rule will open up player-city cap room for cities with active players, no longer allowing cities with either not much activity or dummy citizens to hold onto their places at the top of cap echelon forever.

If you are against this new rule, would you always be against any game system or rule that allowed for any kind of turnover of the top cities based on level of activity, or is it only because three weeks is too short a time period?

I'll sticky this for the next day, then forward whatever I can see as a representative set of opinions on to Thunderheart.

I am for this idea because of the dummy citizens that certain cities have. However this will also affect real player cities full of actual people because of the shortness of the time. The limit needs to be a month, preferably longer just in case. Seeing how I don't expect this to affect me or at least not affect me too terribly much I'd say that a month is fine but there are some people that would have qualms about that being too short as well.

And as I said earlier there should be a timer of how long you are actually on. If someone can just hop onto their alt char then disconnect and get right back to playing and not have to worry for a few weeks the system is pointless. Again however they shouldn't make it too long to restrict and force casual players to schedule play time just for that purpose.

I'm not happy about this.. we have one particular case that is a "live" player.. but he's very sporatic. Even with the 6 week (current number) grace period, we would have lost this guy.. since he'd suffered a system crash (and we had no way of knowing)..

And how does one define "log in" ? To the game? To their account? To the individual server where the structures are? This hasn't been set out even in proposal.

I can see how this would combat the "ghost town syndrome" .. but IMO there's too much vagueness here .. and it would penalize "vacationers" or *very* casual players..

..some people play daily.. but can't always be checking on their alts, especially if they're immersed in their main for a period of time.. so does this mean a player alt would poof if the player didn't budget his/her time between servers? I don't think this would be right...

Hmmm - bad, bad idea. Please **edit** it in the bud. A lot of people worked very hard to get their cities up and running, my guild included.

About half the members we had at one time have quit, but a few have kept their accounts active with a view to returning once the game improves/matures or the space expansion comes out.

They're still paying the subscription (including our former PA leader who has theguild hall under his lots) but won't be logging on in the immediate future. Others take long breaks to work abroad or play other games when things in SWG become "stale" and new features are still a while away.

What happens to cities (like ours)hovering ona rank/level limit...37? 58? etc. All that effort down the pan and game-enhancing structures like shuttles/gardens imploding for the want of a couple of casual gamers forgetting to log in?

All in all, a totally needless and unwanted change when so many other issues need addressing, many of which are highlighted above (ghost harvesters/factories/homes etc)

One final word of warning that perhaps might be passed on by our correspondent - a kick in the teeth like this will lead to folk quitting. I absolutely guarantee it because I'll almost certainly be one of them even though I'm one of the rare people who've really enjoyed this game since day 1.

It's one thing to have a profession/feature nerfed or tweaked, where the outcome can usually be resolved by droppingone character facetto focus ona second.

It'squite another to watch dozens of collective hours ofeffortwiped out in a single moment for no good reason.

Please take a few minutes to sit back and actually thinkthrough the negative outcome for potentially hundreds of cities across dozens of servers - the payback in "saved" server space won't even begin to compensate for the grief you'll bring upon yourselves from otherwise contented players.

Yours not happily,
