This could also apply to the profession MERCHANT.

If you think about, Politician/Merchant is almost a pointless class (I'm trying to put this in the least offensive way possible...) Most of the benefits in these professions can be summed up into a single/double skill tree of another profession (but, we just lack a profession to put these skills in), as many of the skills are completely blank or offer very little point. Example: Many of the final level politician skills only provide specializations that will rarely (if ever) be used. These specializations can easily be put in a skill that actually provides a use.

But, instead of shrinking the profession down or putting it assimilating it into another profession, why not just lower/remove the skillpoint usage? That way, everyone can learn these skills if they were given the opprotunity, and it allows the player to not be so restricted profession wise.

While yes, this removes part of the glory value of being a politician/merchant (many say to me I'm pretty honorable [sometimes stupid] to keep my politician skills), but these small pro doesn't really make up for the fact that all I can do is master 1 elite profession and 1 basic profession after politican.

If I wasn't dedicated to my guild, I would drop politician in a heartbeat. And if a profession will actually cause a person to feel such way, it can't honestly be working the way it was intended to be. Things always sound better on paper, and politician is a great example of this. Before I was a politician, I was indeed excited about becoming on... now I feel I've wasted my time and my skillpoints over a blank professions.

FINAL THOUGHT: Of course, this isn't the only solution. Another solution is giving politician a little revamp and buffing up a mayor's powers. Maybe make city governments customizable as a poltician gains more skills, or allow cities to go to war if a politician has the warmaster title. Basically, give politicians a reason to keep all their skills after they mastered it

I agree, something has to be done. I think that politician skills should either be half the current points or none. Anyone could be mayor, and its not like letting them have those abilities unbalances the game in any way. Merchant at least offers something useful, more vendors and vendor options. Merchant abilities could be combined into all of the master crafting trees though. I wish the development team would at least admit politician is useless and tell us WHEN they will add SOMETHING.

I feel that it deserves some skill point requirement though. Otherwise everyone and their mother will grab the prof just for some of the titles (warmaster anyone?) however I do agree with you that as it stands the points required are simply too much. At the very least I feel they should be brought down to elite profession cost if not even lower then that. I don't see how, even with 30 x the content we have now, this profession helps our characters at all. While true that just means it is primarilly for the roleplayers and not the grinders but I would still like some sort of a carrot outside of helping those 30 people over there and kinda getting new friends thanks to those dozen or so people over there and yatta yatta.

I agree on this too. I was planning on something that I actually wanted to do for myself and not change around my skills and try different things for my PA. But now since our old mayor is leaving, I decided I'd be a team player and take up politician and it just totally knocked everything out of whack. The idea I like the most is the no skill point usage. And if everyone went out to get this, all they'd be able to do is get the Novice Politician title as long as they actually never became a mayor of a city.

even if we had no skill point requirement, people would still need exp to get the titles and the mayor abilities.

so that's not an issue

I am the mayor of Mos Wroshyr which is on Tatooine in the FarStar galaxy. Since being elected into that position I have had to postpone my dream of adding master dancer to my current master titles of entertainer and musician as I am using my skills on the politician profession instead.

I am quite happy to do this. In order for a city to succeed there needs to be a dedicated person in charge of it - someone willing to put the city before their own desires, someone willing to put their whole career on hold for the duration of their time as mayor.

If the skill point requirement for the politician profession is reduced or removed then player cities will all suffer as a result. The vast majority of players in this game would make lousy mayors - those who can be good mayors will not mind having to spend the points on the skill and put their own careers on hold.

Well a large percentage of the people on most servers are a part of a city, they could just vote for themselves over and over and after a few months bam they gank our titles!!!

As for dedication to a group. Since when does devotion=sacrifice? I feel I will make a pretty good mayor when I can finally get our city off the ground a few more inches but why does that mean I have to drop out a few skill sets? Why do you have to get a large minus to equal out a large plus (this plus hardly effects us, at least none moreso then the random citizen who hasn't spent anything sp wise) instead of just a big plus and a slight requirement? If everyone in the game could become a politician (no req) or easily become one we will have a much more interesting system.

Don't like the current mayor? Then run against him it's not like you have much to loose except, possibly, your status as a citizen. If enough people feel the same way you do you can check the mayor with a parliamentary movement of we'll steal 2k exp from you if you keep taxes that high. Don't care? Fine but remember why you are waiting and waiting for those gardens to arrive. Of course the scorched earth policies will have to be dealt with first so we don't have a mess of cities being ripped up thanks to morons in power that don't want to leave.

I agree with removing the skill point necessity. The job of mayor requires nothing for me at this point save placing a house here and there, or maybe a streetlight. I'm a Master Politician and I really don't need to be. Once they fix the Master level bonuses I'll setup the cool city specializations and then drop everything but the ability to lay down trainers, because the militia is worthless without citywarn and the city already looks pretty good, decoration wise. It's just not worth it in any way to have my points invested in such an utterly pointless and worthless skill set.

There is only so much a politician can do. I have had to give up master artisan to follow politician. I am a master merchant, master amrchitect and have pistols 2 in marksman. Politician should use half the skill points. Even at master politician you do not get a single skill so that last skill point is for a tag?

Something needs to be done.

Suddenly there are tons of post all about the same thing..

First thing about adding new stuff, it will not happen over night. Some think that making tons of post will make it go faster, it will not. All you do is flooding the board and preventing those that got real questions to fall off.

You can check any board, everyone demands that the devs change so their prof get "all fancy stuff" and becoming most elite. That will not happen, nor will they change it over night. They spend time to create new things for each, testing it, tweaks it then hand it out. Its a long process and it seem like many here think they could it better.. really doubt that

I do not think that removing the skill points req is the right way to "correct" what you call a worthless prof. If your not willing to spend some of your points on politician then maybe a player city arent what you should go for. Removing the skillpoint req would be a very bad idea if you ask me, more towns would probly pop up and all those demand to rise above certain ranks, its "so" unfair that only a few can do so.. ring a bell? Already happening.

If a person dont want to spend his skillpoints on politician dont become one, there might be a fewer cities but all those will have a dedicated mayor willing to give up some of the skillpoints for the prof. You cant eat the cookie and still have it.

Disagree with both Politician and Merchant Skill Points removed.

I can agree with making them a sub-profession requirring half the current level of skill points to master and requiring another Master level profession (any) as a pre-req.

Rather than try to pust for this (which probably won't happen)we should be pushing for more content.

Give us:

Citywarn or some way to discourage opposing faction from being in our cities if we are a faction city

More structures

Raise the decoration cap

Integrated defensive structures, Citywalls, bunkers and such that craftable, not just player bases, a bunker with 1 million HP that defenders could retreat into and shoot from that would give them a big boost on defensive rolls is not unreasonable, but only basic attacks could be used from it, this would make "crafter brigades" more effective and give them a reason to remain declared and give them an incentive to fight.

Reduce the footprint of covert scanners if you won't give us back citywarn and make them craftable.

Give us some NPC quests that spawn only in Player cities.

It'd be nice to be able to sit in the player gardens, make player gardens able to heal mind pools.

Separate the Zoning rights from the militia.

Allow us to place factional spawn points for increased rebel or imperial presence. Bases are one thing but Damn they are big, I'd like to have squads of ST guarding our city hall, bank and other structures.

How about a newspaper function that could be accessible in any city building or just outside the hall where a player could buy for say 100 credits a bulletin on the city even if they weren't a citizen. We have alot of residents living in suburbs now as we are at a premium for usable space.

Those are just some of my ideas.

Sorry I can't disagree with the petition, I just don't think Politiican should be free, it should be one of the more difficult to master professions, but it should have some of the greatest rewards.
