Thread: City Chat

Whatever happened to all the threads on city chat, I went away fora while and they disapeared.

I was hopeful because of all the threads reguarding it that maybe something would come of it, Also because it has to be a fairly easy addition to make. I have 4 guilds and a couple of Independants in my city and it is very hard to organise them all.

Sure I could create a channel invite the 100 or so people everyday and have them reconfigure thier chat boxes everyday but I am busy enough already. It cant be a server load issue considering anyone with a guild has thier own perm chat channel and cities have caps.

Anyway I was wondering if there was some comment on this issue that caused all the threads to go away.

City Chat

Create a simple Macro to create and join a public or even privat chat that even has a Message that can be used as "Message of the Day" ...

/chat create SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC 0 1 "\#3399ffKheraba-City.de \#ffffff- Big Event in Cantina today";
/pause 1;
/chat join SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC;

... for a public chat - and for private:

/chat create SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC 0 0 "\#3399ffKheraba-City.de \#ffffff- City Members Only";
/pause 1;
/chat join SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC;
/chat invite PlayerName01 SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC;
/chat invite PlayerName02 SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC;
/chat invite PlayerName03 SWG.Gorath.Chat.KC;
...

My City Chat Tab is always the one next to my spatial one ... I never delete it ... it always stays there after disconnection, it just doensn't have a name ... I just switch to it (shift+end), press shift+F9 to start my macro that either generates a new chat channel or joins me to the excisting one ... and press shift+home to get back to my spatial chat ... which I have modified to show me the created city chat ... and I don't even have to modifey it after disconnection ever again.

That's all well and good DaQuilla but the fact is that a city chat channel should just be one of those system-created channels like group chat and guild chat.

That's a nice work-around macro, but honestly it's a PITA. I tried that very same macro this past weekend because I have no other choice but the channel must constantly be re-created and re-joined by players. Many players could not join the channel via commandline even though it was public for some reason (bug?) and had to go through the GUI and click-through. After about 5-10 /tells saying they couldn't join, it was just an exercise in frustration.

THERE SHOULD BE A CITY CHAT.

  • city chat channel would available to all citizens
  • however; mayor can toggle city chat to be public or private to just citizens
  • channel is moderated by mayor and any other citizen as designated by the mayor

yes, i have been saying this sinse the city patch went live...

cant be that hard to do... base it on guild chat, change peramaters from guild to city resedency.. and thats about it..

but then again, they still havnt fixed the imperial officer cap issue, so i doubt they will do this either.

Thanks for the macro Daquilla I may give it a shot , even though it currently means typing out around 100 names and modifiing it whenever we get new members (something I already do with my freinds list)and recreating the channel everyday, but I still feel that city chat is a must for the playercity system. Citizen email is a blessing but it isnt enough because I dont want to fill up citizens email boxes with stuff that should just be said or asked in chat.

My biggest fear reguarding city chat is that most citys are owned by single guilds (just to clarify I dont know if this is fact, its just my fear.) and as such it will be deemed not needed.

It is definetly needed. Our city, while founded by one guild, is trying to entice other guilds to join us. We never intended this to be "our" city, nor do we want it to remain that way.

Yes I must concur that city chat is very needed and thus has been included in our top 5 issues. But as said it couldn't be that hard for the devs to modify and implement one since guildchat is the same principal. Also thanks for the macro DaQuilla I'm going to take a try at it tomorrow when I get home from work and the servers are up.

Heh I didnt see it in the top 5 issues, I guess I will have to go re-read them, I assume its tied in with the one of the multi-issue issues.

It's in there as one of the suggestions for ways to make the political skills more valuable.

Communication

  • City Message of the Day
  • City Chat Channel
  • City Bulletin Board Terminal (citizens posting announcements to each other)

My friend sethnor took about a hour and figured out a macro for a city chat

this is the macro below

/chatroom create SWG.Galaxyname.planetofcity.cityname.CityChat 0 1 CityChat;

/chatroom refresh;

/pause 3;

/chatroom what ever you put on that first line but get rid of the 01 City chat

mayors should make a macro that does this and citizens should make a macro that does everything but the top line

Have fun

What is this command for?

If the channel already exists ... you might put in a "/chat join planetofcity.cityname.CityChat;" ...

Also, you might not open your chat in planetofcity.cityname ... but just under the standard "Chat" Folder ... this way to send your message into your city chat you can just do this by typing "/CityChat Message" ... so if your CityChat Name is something short it looks like this : "/kc Message"

I've posted this here.
