With the new auto-join feature we now have a pretty good working city chat that everybody can join and will auto-rejoin after login!
Here's how it works again ... To create a chat simply enter:
/chat create [ChatName] [Private] [Unmoderated] "[Title]"
[ChatName]:
The name of the chat ... only typing the name (e.g. "KC") will create a chat in the general "Chat" Folder of your server ... to be on the safe side you can type "SWG.[ServerName].Chat.[ChatName]
[Private] :
0 = a public chat
1 = a private chat (you will have to "/chat invite [ChatName] [Player Name];" your citizens)
[Unmoderated] :
1 = no moderation
0 = moderated (you will have to set moderators)
[Title]:
The title of the chat showen next to the name in the join chat window - can be used as message of the day - colors (like Kheraba Blue = "\#3399ff") work.

have your city chat set up at the "root" of the "chatroom tree" (ie. under Chat), or use aliases.

I remember we just shortened it from the actual town name in the town I live in. We took "Crystal Cove" and shortened it to "CCove" so it was /ccove which wasn't bad.

Yep, that's what I do. Our city chatroom is naboo.rauha. I have "/cc" set up to alias to "/naboo.rauha". So when I type /cc Hi everyone!, it goes to the chat channel, regardless of what planet I'm on.
I do have the chat window separated out from the others so I can chat better with my citizens/friends. But this method works just fine (so long asI don't mix up /g (group), /gui (guild) and /cc (city) chats

With Haven on Scylla I created /h2 for the people that were in the guild that splintered from the main one to still have a guild chat type thing to talk to each other in ... it would be nice if they'd actually add that as a function without having to create it repeatedly, that you just automatically get a /citizens chat channel

I created a chat channel nce for allied members of the Imperial faction and had a terrible time with the channels stability. This was right after the patch that "supposedly" revamped the communications.
See if any of you who have managed to work it succefully have had these problems?
#1) Players were only able to talk/type if they had Moderator status.
#2) The Chat Channel didnt recognize me as its creator the next time i logged in.
The channel would recognize whomever was a member of the channel and logged on to
the game foirst that day as the creator. Therefore making it impossible for the
creator to add or remove ppl.
#3) The most annoying of all, once we had given up on the chat channel, it reappears on the chat TAB,
every time i login. I even deleted it every which way till sunday and it is still there.
I've contacted CSR's gotten no response thru the ticket system and made threads about it on the "game guides" section, and nothing has been answered.
I will be taking over as mayor of a Metropolis on Valcyn soon and if this has been fixed since i tried, i'd love to have one for the city.
Any of you had similar situations?

Our chat channel is public. I think the problems you listed there are with private chat channels.

Ok, that very well may be then that the Private Channels. It's quite disheatening that a user created private channel wouldnt have the stability of the GUILD CHANNELS that are created by the game.
Regarding a PUBLIC channel: Does that make it so that anyone can be banned from viewing it im sure?
does anyone have a link to a good sony FAQ regarding channels, so i dont bog down the politician forum with my questions?

Under the top 5 wishes I aked fora city chat feature so that we can better communicate with members who are not guilded. I was told that this feature is now availble but even searching through the forums I can find not mention of this. All I can find is creating a private channel which is reset on server restart, is this what people meant ?
Any help ?

It is not available, Planet chat is but no specific City chat, I too agree this should be in the Top 5 fixes, it should be very easy to do and would help a lot.

My city has it's own chat
create a chat channel, not private and no moderators or what they call em.
get people to log into the channel and you'll have it everyday, since its bound to be anyone online at anytime, but incase their isn't, the channel wont die - once a a person who has the channel on their bar, the channel will be auto created - not really deepsighted into it, works for us
