Thread: Master Politician A Waste Of Skill Credits?

Absolutely a waste of SP. I have dropped to novice and mastered doctor in addition to rifleman. My city runs fine. Everything is in place. Remember that being a mayor is more than just dropping NPC trainers and placing gardens.
not completly true. You get a shinney new badge, one of the rarest titles in the game, and you get to make more room for AP points
A RL friend of mine just Mastered Politician. We, the citizens, all waited to see what grand new city specializations she would get. The description of Master Politician is vague. Something about "New More Powerful City Specializations" had us all anxiously waiting.
She tells us there is one more added to her choices! Is that correct? What gives!
6 Skill Credits for 1 new specialization?
I was hoping for a better version of Improved Job Market, but I am told there is no such thing.
With what I have been told it seems that Politician needs some serious Dev Luv. I mean taking all the time week after week.. To Master.. and get the shaft.
I most sincere and deep respect for all of you long time mayors, you guys are incredible. I simply don't know how you did it.
Bright Blessings,

Did I understand correctly, that if one untrains all but novice, the civic structures stay?
Thanks in advance,

Just dropping to 4444 after getting Master, I can keep Master Swordsman and Novice Medic along with enough Merchant skills to keep my businesses going.
It sounds like Politician 0104 is all one really needs to manage the city and keep it decorated when spaces opens up. Too bad I couldn't wear the Accountant title if that was all I kept...

I was just coming here to ask the same question. I'm currently running for mayor of an 80 citizen ex-metropolis, and was wondering whether Master Politician was worth keeping. It sounded as if there might be some hidden benefits, like Smugglers get, but I guess not.

If you have the SP to spare, this is a very sound idea. A city of that size likely doesn't need any more decorations placed. I personally don't have a militia because as far as I've seen, they're more trouble than they're worth. I might suggest 0020 so you are still able to place trainers. Again, since trainers don't contribute to the city treasury, other thant costing money, once you have a decent selection of trainers, you can leave them as they are. Manging 12 or 15 trainers in a city of 80 or so, is an ordeal I don't reccomend. Place the trainers you feel are needed.
I've always maintained that being a mayor is more than dropping decorations and placing trainers. Having usless skills will not detract from you ability to manage a city or lead people.
Good luck. It's a very rewarding job.
And if you should increase the shuttle fees or taxes, people will let you know about it, yet nobody wants to help you with your city or donate funds to the city treasury. Player cities are seriously broke and players can seriously grief you and exploit you and the CSR's will do absolutely nothing. However, if you ever do or say anthing negative any player can submit a CSR ticket on you and get a warning or worse. Mayors have no power in game whatsoever to protect their city from people who WILL come along to intentionally gried and exploit your city.
This post is negative regarding the master politician profession for a reason: Unless you really want a city more than anyting and are willing to work very hard for it, you will regret that you ever became a mayor and started a city as it is almost impossible to resign. Before you decide to start a city ask yourself, do I really want a city or am I just doing this because I think it would be realy neat to have a city. If you don't really want a city you will get bored after a few weeks and not want to run a city anymore. Many player cities have already risen and fallen, even many of the long standing cites.
To sum this up in one sentence: The politician professions (master politician) is not worth the time or effort!!!

Master politician is a total waste of time! I am the mayor of a Metropolis city on Dantooine on Bria server and am a master politician. I can only be master politician and master WS....there aren't enough skill pts left to master a 3rd proff. I'm probably just going to drop back down to novice politician. In my opinion, master politician is the most waste of time proffession in the game. I don't recommend being a politician at all unless you want to time to play your toon, as you spend all your time helping everyone. The pay is terrible............you don't get paid. Be ready to spend millions of your own credits out of pocket until your city gets to a very large level 4 city and actually makes enought credits to pay the weekly city maintenance, otherwise your city is a big credit sink hole and a heavy financial burden on you as the mayor.

No wonder you don't have citizens that don't want to donate to the treasury. Indeed we as mayors don't have enough control over our cities but that is absolutely no reason to knock the profession as a whole. But if you don't want to "waste" your time with a skill then why keep it? Does it make you feel good to come here ranting about a profession that just needs some loving? I think not. There's always things for mayors to be involved in other then dropping gardens, banks, shuttles, etc. Have city hosted events. I think the Politician Profession is to sum it up, just very ignored because it is NOT a combat class profession. But i would NEVER go as far as saying that being Master Politician is not worth the time or effort. I've devoted alot of my time to my city and will continue to do so till the day SWG is no more. The only thing wrong with MASTER is that yes, you do use 620ap plus another 6sp to Master and get absolutely nothing for doing so besides for one of the rarest badges in the game. But I find Politician to be one of the MOST rewarding professions in the game and i've done alot of profs. And I would never be the type of Mayor to run around saying that it is a big waste.. if i was, i would expect and hope my citizens would get me outta office and get someone that actually enjoys interaction, commitment, and undying devotion to this prof. We are the voices here... we need to be the ones to speak up and say what we would like to see.. not necessarily meaning the DEVS will actually listen to what we want but I'm willing to fight for my citizens and for my city at any and all costs. Sure you do drop money into keeping city maint. paid.. but the way i look at that is, look what we've created and is so active and cared about. I don't care about dropping money into city maint nor do my citizens. They live in a TAX FREE city (that was their reward for helping our city become what it is today) but they still donate so much to helping maintain the city. Even if it's only 10k, that's still something. And I don't even ask for that but they know it is appreciated. Maybe, the problem with your city is that they just don't have a mayor that will actively work for them. Just my two cents ![]()
