Thread: Multi-Guild Cities Experiences?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experiences they'd like to share about running multi-guild cities. Is it hard? If you've tried both multi- and mono-guild cities, is there one you like better? How does one attract more than one guild to their city?

No need to limit yourself to those questions, those were just some ideas.

We have had two guilds live in our city sense we place city hall. The first guild left without notice and kinda of messed us up for a little bit. The second guild started demanding that we give a bunch of their people militia-hood (so they could grant zoning) and start a new layout based on their ideas, after tell them no they left in a big up roar. I've had nothing but problems with other guilds in my city. On another note, i've noticed that a lot of other cities seem to have had good experinces. All the guilds we have found to join where from adverstiing on the appropriate forum or spamming in cnet (sorry lol, but it helps a lot).

Atfer those two times, we decided that we were going to make it to metro on our own, which we have almost done, being 6 people away. What i have noticed is that if you have one of the best cities on the server random people will come up and ask to live thier just because of how nice it is. We have about 20 random people who live in my city just becaue of that. All ther parks we have people really like

Hopes this helps out.

Thecity I manageis somewhat unique in how it came about. A collection of imperial pvp-oriented guilds agreed to start a new city together, in many cases leaving other smaller cities to crumble. During its early period, IHQ hadmembers of approximately 10guilds, thoughless thanhalf of those were fully within the one city. Keeping that many people happy proved too difficult, and several guilds left after a time.

Today IHQ houses members of 4 active guilds, 3 of which live there entirely. 3 of the 4 have been there from the start, including 2 of the 3 completely resident guilds. Over half of the city is composed of one of the original guilds, which happens to be my own. When the city started we were actually one of the smallest guilds present but have seen a great deal of growth sense then. All is currently well in terms of inter-guild relations in IHQ, and the city is running well with no current complaints from any of its residents. We have nearly 120 residents.

I have been a member of other multi-guild cities, and of a single-guild city. While the greater number of guilds present makes keeping the peace more difficult, it also lends greater numbers, diversity, and excitement to a city.

Crescent City has been a multi-guild city way before I moved in. It was started by one guild and eventually 2 other guilds joined. (Sorry I dont have more details, but that was a looooooooooong time ago.) We've maybe had one semi-disagreement between guilds since I've been around, andthat was quickly resolved. The trick is laying down the rules in the beginning I think. You have to agree who makes final decisions first thing and who is in charge of house placement and you have to be strict. If you have an active mayor that is always helpful and available, that goes a loooooooong way. Someone that is willing to put alot of time into the city and its citizens. Crescent City may be multiple guilds, but we feel like one big family really. I'd suggest that all multiguild cities have a chat channel, as that gives everyone a means to communicate. So, as far as having a successful multiguild city goes, rules are essential as with everything, as well as being selective about who moves in. For us, having quality people and friends is more important than numbers, and being selective of who moves into your city will make it a better city.

I prefer multi-guild cities, since it's more likely that the city will be unaffected if one guild loses its leader and dissolves.

My city has always been multi-guild, but it does come with a price. Some point out that the city wont fall should one guild go under, and that is true. It is what saved our city. On that same note however; It was rivalry between 2 guilds that put us int he spot to begin with. Once guild framed the mayor (a member of the larger guild) and got them perma-banned. It was not pretty, and wouldn't of happened in a single guild city. I guess my point is...both have problems and both have advantages. Don't be scared to let others in, but watch your back either way.

Had a bad experience once. My guild was invited into a city. everythign was nice . . then a rumor came out that the guild which started the city was gonna uproot and move to Lok. When my guild questioned the mayor about it . . it was confirmed that it was infact true. My guild not wanting to lose the citythat we had been adopted into and liked . . . decided to have someone run for Mayor in the event as the other guild leaving. Back then . . .when it cost SP for politition, usually when the a new city was being built . . the current mayor would up and leave alot of times taking down the city hall they were attached to.

This was viewed as my guild "trying to steal" the city and chaos began to rule.

Needless to say . . the city fell

Personally, I think non-guilded mayors work best for multi-guild cities so there is no real claim of favoritism . . . but thats just my opinion.

its fine if the two guilds share the same vision. BUT there are times when they pretty much hate eachother.

i really cant remember when or where it happened(a LONG time ago) there was a city and two guilds moved to it. unfortunatly the two guild leaders got into a argument and declared war on eachother. now heres the funny part: it was like a gang war within the city. my friend (who was letting me use his account before i got mine) was walking through the city then suddenly a the two guilds just came out of their hall (which were somewhat far away from eachother) and pretty much charged at the other guild. there was a large rumble untill one guild was proved victorious. the losing guild ashamed left the city. and the non-guilded citizens of the city were VERY happy.

An opinion I share. Just the -appearance- of favoritism is a problem. It's all about image.

Single guild cities are a lot more harmonious than multi-guild cities.

It's all how you organise the city. We have a city council that runs thecity - each guild has at least one representative. The mayor ismore like thechairman of the city council and is following the desicions of the city council. We never had any major issues. We have arround 200 residents atm and still growing. We are a neutral crafting and merchant city which probably helps a lot - it's probably different with PvP guilds although they have common goals too.

It has to be said though that one of the guilds in our city is far bigger than the other two guilds which kinda prevents a serious power struggle in any case.

I have seen to many cities go under because of multi guilds. My City was based on my Guild that I started, and I only allow those into my city that are in my guild.

This is an easier way to keep track of all Guildmates and Citizens, and there is no conflict with other guilds, or their members. I find it is much easier to deal with only those that are guilded in my guild and my citizens. Everyone that I have in my Guild/city have been really great friends on the most part since launch, so I know I can trust these people.

I agree with the poster about laying down rules and policies from the start and telling everyone what you expect out of their behaviours, ect.

I have a Rules and Policeis that I send out to those that want to join, Before they join. I ask them to read it and by accept the Rules and Policies, they agree to abid by the rules and what I have asked, otherwise they don't join. It's a safty factour and my way of letting people know that I will Not put up with any type of nonsense from any of my guild members and citizens. Also Post what you have your City and Guild Based upon...Mine is Respect, Honour, Truthfulness, Honesty, Politeness, and Common Curtisie to others in game.

I have not had one problem since. I would listen to what people say and than listen to what your instincs are telling you. Take advice, but do what you feel you should do.

Good luck and have fun.
