I have seen to many cities go under because of multi guilds. My City was based on my Guild that I started, and I only allow those into my city that are in my guild.

This is an easier way to keep track of all Guildmates and Citizens, and there is no conflict with other guilds, or their members. I find it is much easier to deal with only those that are guilded in my guild and my citizens. Everyone that I have in my Guild/city have been really great friends on the most part since launch, so I know I can trust these people.

I agree with the poster about laying down rules and policies from the start and telling everyone what you expect out of their behaviours, ect.

I have a Rules and Policeis that I send out to those that want to join, Before they join. I ask them to read it and by accept the Rules and Policies, they agree to abid by the rules and what I have asked, otherwise they don't join. It's a safty factour and my way of letting people know that I will Not put up with any type of nonsense from any of my guild members and citizens. Also Post what you have your City and Guild Based upon...Mine is Respect, Honour, Truthfulness, Honesty, Politeness, and Common Curtisie to others in game.

I have not had one problem since. I would listen to what people say and than listen to what your instincs are telling you. Take advice, but do what you feel you should do.

Good luck and have fun.

I've seen far more cities go under as one guild towns.

We've been lucky I guess. From day 1, we've had 2 guilds ( sometimes 3) in our city. LOA and Clan Moor have been allied guilds since 1997 in UO, and continues in swg and other mmo's. I do agree, however, with the assessments that any show of favoritism towards one guild or another can definitly break down the harmony.

As i've said, our city ( New Haven on Corellia, Gorath) has been running smoothly since day 1. Its all about being a diplomat and taking a nuetral stance in some situations.

Yeah we had a similiar issue in my hometown, but it was more between the older residents and the newer ones.

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has any experiences they'd like to share about running multi-guild cities. Is it hard? If you've tried both multi- and mono-guild cities, is there one you like better? How does one attract more than one guild to their city?

No need to limit yourself to those questions, those were just some ideas.

We have had two guilds live in our city sense we place city hall. The first guild left without notice and kinda of messed us up for a little bit. The second guild started demanding that we give a bunch of their people militia-hood (so they could grant zoning) and start a new layout based on their ideas, after tell them no they left in a big up roar. I've had nothing but problems with other guilds in my city. On another note, i've noticed that a lot of other cities seem to have had good experinces. All the guilds we have found to join where from adverstiing on the appropriate forum or spamming in cnet (sorry lol, but it helps a lot).

Other people means other ideas..if you as a Mayor cannot handle other visions of how the city should be you should either not be a mayor or forget about other guilds in the city. Running a multi-guild city is hard BUT it is the 'end-game' of SWG Politician XP...you are a REAL politician if you can handle the differences between guilds in an intelligent manner. It take diplomacy and willingness to compromise and true statesmenship to make it work.

Single guild cities are the easy way out imho. If you actually want to play the role of politician, seek out multiple guilds.

But if you have no stomach for conflict, or cannot handle critcism, then dont even bother asking another guild to come in. It will be a dismal failure. SOme Mayors just cannot hack a multi-guild city and should not try.

Persoanlly I think its totally unreasonable to try and recruit other guilds into a city and at the same time deny them the right to have representation on the militia and the right to run for Mayor.

If the mayor says no, and the PA doesnt like it, they should be able to run their own candidate and boot the Mayor out..thats called POLITICS!

Atfer those two times, we decided that we were going to make it to metro on our own, which we have almost done, being 6 people away. What i have noticed is that if you have one of the best cities on the server random people will come up and ask to live thier just because of how nice it is. We have about 20 random people who live in my city just becaue of that. All ther parks we have people really like

Hopes this helps out.

We have2 major and at least 2 minor guilds in our Metrolpolis. We divided the city into quarters. Each big guild got one quarter to do with as they saw fit. One quarter was reserved for non-guilded and civic sturctures and the third quarter is a mix of factories and storage houses (with the stipulation that if one of the 2 smaller guilds grows or we get a third big guild that quarter will go to them)

The most important thing about multi guild cities is COMMUNICATION.

  • Make sure the guild leaders all talk to each other (and the Mayor).

  • Have town meetings if necessary.

  • If everyone is acceptable, trade off Mayorship between the guilds.

  • Make sure each guild has at least one 2224Politician (or even better, Master).

If the guilds are on friendly terms there should be no problems if one decides to move or do something strange (like pull all the terminals or put down a second set of civic structures).

For 14 months I ran a PA and Faction independent city on Chilastra (Kraytia, Tatooine). The original mayor's concept was that our town be as diverse as a real world city. At one time there were seven guilds calling Kraytia home (currently I believe there are four). The key to our success has been totalimpartiality. When I decided it was time for me to retire as mayor, I took five months to select a replacement. There were many who would have been happy to take the job, but it was important to me to find one who would uphold the standards of the city and was also in a position where his judgement regarding city matters would be free from compromise.
