From today's TC notes:
Player Cities: Temporarily removed the inactive citizen check for player cities.
So does this mean they're working on an alternate solution, that there are adequate bugs in the present system to be a problem, that it's only a problem on TC or something else entirely? Baj, any hints that you can reveal?

Dont know but sounds silly to me to even have that rule in test center, the majority of people would only log on before the next patch to see the changes, if thats any longer than 6 weeks from the previous patch it could destroy test center cities overnight.

/cheer. I don't mind the 6 week rule as long as it works properly and as long as we have tools to see who is in jeopardy of dropping so we can plan and not just be waylayed by citizens suddenly dropping.
I know I play specific times and I don't see probably about 1/2 our citizens ever. I have no idea if these people are active playing anymore or if it's just that we play different times.
I was able to confirm all but 2 citizens are logging in via the /banktip 1 credit method and getting confirmation email when delivered, but this just really doesn't work well.
Give us the tools we need to deal with this rule.

Hmm, interesting.
It would be nice to see some dev comments on this "feature". I have yet to see any other game mechanic that is as far reaching and has this big of an impact where the devs have steadfastly refused to even make one freaking comment on. People are loosing cities, there are bugs, there is a lot of confusion and it would at least be nice to have an open dialog from the devs about what exactly they want to do here and how they want to do it... then we can give feedback on how well it is working instead of just gnashing our teeth.

Test Center is there to test the real game. The reason I found the two-week typo was that I lost citizens. People are welcome to "log in to see the changes" but there are a lot of the rest of us who are actually playing and testing there - we need basically the same rules that Live has.

I'm hopeful they are rethinking it. This is not a "rule" - but a "crime" against paying customers.
Please join me in asking SOE to end the obvioius GRIEFING policy of the inactive list. Why do I call it a GRIEF? Because it doesn't directly fix any problem at all. They didn't endlot swapping betweenserver - so that can't be what they are concernedwith. Itdoes't free up real estate on planets, because it leaves houses stillstanding.
SOS is using this rule to force cities into becoming so land-locked and frustratedthat they give up and go away.
END THE GRIEFING!
REMOVE THE INACTIVE CITIZENSHIP RULE!

I wouldn't hold your breath. Its a temp fix for the TC server only. They need citizens inorder to continue testing with Player Citizens.. TC doesn't have the population for such a rule so they are disableing it. I doubt it will go live.

I agree, SoolNa, and that's what I suspect is happening. I *hope* it means that the devs are re-thinking this whole thing after last week's roundtable discussion concerning it, but I hold no illusions on that count. What I'd like, though, is a comment one way or another... (And a nudge if this is going live to go ahead and do so...if it's destructive, as I think it is, fix it.)

Or.....
They could always fix the database so that more cities could upgrade. Maybe allow more to achieve without having to do so at the expense of others? Just a thought.
