Thread: The Radius needs to be Larger.

I participate in/run a city known as Coren, located on Naboo (on the Scylla server). Measuring from corner to corner, the city is over 1km (a bit over) in diameter, which means all of it will never be included in the city. And its not like nothing is organized, it is THE most organized player city I have ever seen. We have two residential districts, an industry district, a commercial district, and a military district (5 fully armed faction bases at this time). Everything is neartly organized into streets and such, and it is just a shame to see that due to hard caps, all of our beautiful city will not be included.

It is a PA city, a PA that has over 150 members, many of which who have houses. It is impossible to condense it at this point too, becuase a) there are too many houses, b) too much planning went into the current layout, and c) there is no room.

Personally, I would like to see either of these done;

a) Allow a city radius to grow based on the how many houses there are. For example, the more houses added, the more it grows. Not just "80 houses gives you this rank, this diameter, enjoy". Of course we don't want cities taking up the whole map, so perhaps a max diamter of 1.5-2km... I mean wouldn't it be cool to have Player Cities being bigger than the biggest NPC cities. I always dreamed of creating a big city, bigger than theed or keren, but it looks like that won't happen.

b) Simply raise the hard caps, not much more to say on this.

Well, thats my suggestion. I hope it is taken seriously.

Here are screenshots of one of the residential areas. Unfortunately much of it got cut off when I moved away from it, due to burst run running out

You need a cap on size.I think a 900m circle should be just fine. What people are going to need to do if size is a problem.

1. Only allow primary residences inside the city limits.

2. Move all factories, PA halls, storage houses, harvestors outside of the city limits.

Or you can always have 2 sister cities. Figure out the best placement of 2 halls and have side by side cities.

Does it really matter if you have all 150 people in the official city limits? As long as you have 80 you will qualify for a metropolis. Yeah it sucks not getting the extra votes and XP to speed things up, but does it really matter?

Yeah, and if you wanna get real organized make one of them industrial / militant and the other residential /commercial.

I guess we could do that, but like I said, I would have liked one whole city. I really don't see any downsides to making the radius larger when we can just have two cities.

The problem is real estate. The world is a defined place, and so are places people can build. If cities are much larger than 900 meters, then you will see about half the city locations go away from the map.

900 Meters is plenty. You want your cake and to eat it to. I bet you can fit 150 houses in there easily, but you dont want to move how you have them setup. Thats the downside to having a pre-built PA city before the patch.

I hope they do not increase the size personally, 900 meters is a very large area.

A 900m circle is a lot of real estate. I could see not wanting to split your city, as it would have a odd shape, though you could place your factories, harvesters, faction bases and PA Halls in the "dead zones" where the perimeter of the 2 circles diverge.

(sorry for the roughness of the diagram...)

If the Xs represent land within the city limits, places your houses and municipal buildings there, and place your non-house buildings in the green zone, with your faction bases along the perimeter.

Wa la... a (twin) city 900m x 1800m.

the problem with increasing the radius is that you give small groups control over vast areas of terrain. this isn't a problem for you, because you have enough people for two huge cities. but consider a small PA, who was able to 'rule' a 1.5km radius area, via zoning rights and /warn. this would be especially bad if they decided to encircle a city like coronet with multiple city halls, creating a dangerous military zone around it, where they would have free reign to slay anyone they choose. this is possible now, but with the smaller radii, it would take much more effort.
