Thread: This Profession was a bad idea IMO

The Mayor of our city is a secondary charactor that is never even seen. Sure there are people who would give the time to run the city the way it should be run, but who has extra skill points? They made politician a stand alone profession that takes up huge amounts of skill points to be able to do anything.

I dislike this whole politician system where the best people can't run a city without giving up their bread and butter skills. What income is there in being a politician anyways? How is this a stand alone profession anyways?

IMO this was some bogus way to limit the growth of citys and it was never even considered giving the rights of fair elections so people could campaign and win elections in any form of democratic system. The whole system works against it. The city is not an autonomus entity and someone is holding lots to the backbone. This should never have been the case.

IMO no one should ever have had to hold deads to a city hall andanyone should have been able to campaign and run for mayor regardless of some politician profession. Ihate this whole system and wash my hands of it, its all bogus BS, and promotes having to run some secondary charactor to place the whole burdon of it.

Its worst then any AFK entertainer as this bogus charactor doesn't even have to log on to rake in EXP on fixed elections to gain exp. This is the worst system of government that I can even imagine and its no wonder people want to go out now and "buy" their own cities as thats what this whole system amounts too. It stinks.

so you just want all the benefits with none of the sacrifice...and what if an active mayor who likes being a politician wanted to run in your city would you deny him/her?

What benefits would you be talkiing about?

Running a city is work with no gain. Its a sacrifice to put in the time to do it right because you care and want to help out. There is no benefit, its work so I really don't have any idea what you mean.

Would you say the same to a RP mayor? I'm sure they enjoy the "work" that is part of their chosen profession. Not everyone wants millions of credits for playing the game (but don't get me wrong, credits are nice )

Some good points but in my opinion a mayor should not have ever been a "politician profession" but an honor given by the citizens. All the things a politician can do on all the skill trees should have beenbased by population and not some skill tree on a useless profession with skill points that exclude the best people for the job and promotes secondary charactors to handle the skill point load.

This is no democracy. It flies against the face of citizen rule.

Andy, just because they enjoy the work doesn't mean its still not work.

You are missing the whole point of my post. I am not anti-mayor, I just don't think it should have required a profession to go along with the title.

I feel all the things on the politician skill trees should have been granted by election and population entirely. I feel this whole thing as a "proffesion" entirely stinks because it isn't a full time thing and it certainly is a thing you do as a service and not any form of income. Its not like the citizens are going to /tip you for being mayor.

I'm a full time politician. It's just as useful as any other profession in the game. Managing 100 citizens is a full time job. I ensure our business people are faring well, I organize placement and management of incoming citizens who we seem to get a few new ones every few days, I greet people and other politicians who come to visit us.

Of the things I do in the game it's what I enjoy most, and I'm not even a roleplayer. I also run a business selling resources that makes a lot of money in our city. Just because some people think it's boring doesn't mean others do. I find grinding combat xp to be a combat class boring. Doesn't mean everyone else does.

Thats great Okkie and I feel you should have gotten everything you can do as mayor now based entirely on you being elected and the population of your city, not some politician skill trees.

Yes I know what you said, and myself and others gave their opinion too. Some people like mayor just the way it is. Everyone is entitled to their opinion too. I personally feel Politician is a valid and worthwhile profession as compared to any other in the game, but you do not. That's fine, but you need to allow people to express an opinion other than yours, otherwise you are just ranting and people will not understand your viewpoint.

Oh, Okie, BTW...

Your city is lucky to have a full time mayor.

You did read my first post right? The city I live in has no active mayor who is ever seen...

I run the Cantina and I see people on a regular basis. I would love to help actually run the city, set some policies, maybe form a business committee but because of this whole system I would have to give up a bread and butter skill and thinking about it, I can't do that... So our absent never seen mayor will continue to reign... Thats not my fault, thats this stupid systems fault...

Functionally, it's not the most complete profession, but it's necessary for player city management. It would be tough to allocate who has the authority to place/remove what and where, across a whole city of citizens, without a politician.

All points listed so far as valid. Though, like Okie said, it comes down to the person playing the profession and if they enjoy it or not. I for one enjoy being a politician and mayor, building a city from the ground up to a metropolis.

Oh, and sorry to hear about the absent-mayor problem you've got, that definitely bites. Only solution is grow large enough to swing more votes your way (or whoever is running for mayor). Good luck.
