Thread: Mayors need more zoning rights power
I'll tell the story that lead to this first ;
A mayor friend of mine(im a mayor also) granted zoning rights to one of his citizens to place a small home in his city. In stead the player placed a large home. My friend asked him to redeed it to wich the offednng player laughed and walked away. At this point there isnt much the mayor can do. You can raise taxes, but any player how runs mission can afford it on a large home. He could warn him and let malitia know about his offense but even that can be side steped. Once placed the home is there.
I feel mayors need more power over this, But the power to force a redeed is too much, and can become a grief real fast. I propose a menu for zoning rights. This menu will hold home size, harvestor size, factory, decoration, etc.. . This will allow the mayor or malitia to dictate what they can build better and safer. I also dont see how this can be sued as a greif. Please pick this apart, I feel this siutation needs to be adressed.
I was about to argue agaisnt what you were saying. I think mayors have too much power now.
But there is some merit to granting rights for only certain kinds of buildings, in fact I would argue for zoneing of areas ( only small houses can be placed here ) instead of people.
I am against a mayor being able to tell anyone that cant move in ( as it currently is ), but part of your idea has merit.
My point is really telling some one to move. It has more to do with people lieing when it comes to what they are placing. Most mayor have a city plan, and some people dont want to follow it. The few players in my city that dont want to move their homes to meet my plan have given me real goos reason(vendors and stuff) and Ive worked around it.
As for mayors having too much power Id have to disagree. Other than taxes and zoning rights there isnt much else they control. In the case of the above stated any mayor that abuses them will quicky kind a new mayor and a ton of votes lost come election day.
Dammit we need an edit button.
It wasnt until I hit submit that I thought of destroying the cityhall as a power that a mayor has that may be too much. This I agree with, They should not have this power.
There is also no way, once zoning rights are granted, to prevent someone from running into the middle of your Central Plaza and dropping his house there.
I know of a few cities who don't allow anyone to place their own structures. The deed is given to the mayor (or another trusted person with empty lots), placed, and then transferred back to the owner.
That is why I agree with the zoning of areas ( instead of people rights )
No one can build here...
People can place small houses here
People can place larger houses here
People can place factories here
From that perspective, I agree.
Don't expect the game engine to do everything.
You obviously chose someone who could not be trusted and did not respect your authority - my rule is simple, I do not give Zoning Rights to anyone that I do not trust implicitly.
It is simple - you made a mistake - probably driven by your desire to have more people live in your city ![]()
The easiest solution to this and one that is probably really easily coded, is for the mayor to be given the power to place a fake structure. They mayor selects the type of structure, and then they place a footprint exactly as if they were placing the real thing (only nothing appears).
Then when a player comes along with zoning rights, they can place their house into any of the slots the mayor has placed that will take it.
E.g. I as a mayor want a strip of small naboo houses. I run around and place all the footprints. A citizen comes along with a small naboo and is given zoning rights. He can choose from any of the slots available, but he can only place that small naboo and he has to place it in the same orientation that the mayor did. If he has a generic medium, he cannot place it (unless the mayor has also put down slots for generic mediums somewhere else).
I would love this.
