Thread: Mayors need more zoning rights power
Just recently i have restricted the build rights.
You say, thats just crazy?
Maybe so, but if i didn't like the spot and they didn't move it, i would bane them from entering the house.
I would place two lamp post in front of the Door, it got their attention. lol, they must of had some good stuff in there.
Like others have posted.
I made sure my mayor account had 10 availabe lots and I would personally place down every single house / factory a person needed. It was sort of a pain at first, but now, I have have every single command hotkeyed it makes it a breeze to do.
/setprivacy - Makes the structure public after you place it down so that the future owner may enter
/name Bob's House - Names the house after them so they dont forget.
/transferstructure - Make sure the future owner is inside the house and you have him targeted
I also had my housing rules macro'ed and hotkeyed.
Hope this helps....
Another item that would be very useful is to get a "birds eye view" of the city. Similar to the one you use when your placing items. So that you can SEE the city. I think the zoning rights are a great idea.
If you could determine the way a house must face, the type of house that can be placed, ect, it would make things ALOT more organized.
ALSO, it would be nice if the mayor could /rotate (house) left 90 instead of having to pick up all your stuff and replacing the house.
Dayln
report what as a bug?
If you think placing a lamp post in front of a door is a bug? it is not. Can anyone do this to a house in the city, no, only the mayor can.
If the mayor does this without the support of the majority of the city, then they would be voted out.
Can this be used as the only tool to protect the better good of a city after a citizen has been causing havoc, yes.
Okay ... this problem isnt really that difficult ... although I do agree that an addition to the grant zine command like ... /grantzoningrights small .... or /grantzoningrights civic ... would be very useful here.
This is what we do.... Now, I have one of the MOST **edit**-retentive urban planners around. Heck, Im the Mayor and I dont dare step on Bluelagoon's urban planning toes. LOL ... so here is our step by step plan. It cuts down on a LOT of the mess I see others having.
1.) We hand select the players we allow to move into our city. They must sit down with members of our council and discuss the city plan, growth, and tell us their objections before they are allowed to move in. Yes, it seems mean, but it have allowed us to have NO griefing.
2.) Only the Mayor and the Urban planner place structures unless they are civic structures that need to be placed by a Master profession ... Doctor/Dancer and so on.
3.) A meeting time is sheduled and Bluelagoon or myself (sometimes Exuro, our co-mayor lol) will meet the new citizen at the city.
4.) The structure will be placed by one of us, in the area designed according to our map. We have a VERY well planned out city and it looks beautiful!
5.) We give the new citizen ADMIN to the structure and ask them to come in. Once they are in, we /transferstructure to them. At that point we guide them to declare it their residence, and then lead them to the City Hall to vote.
So far this plan has worked beautifully. We ahve done it for each of our 60+ citizens. Every now and again, the new citizen will need to wait the 24 hour grace period to re-declare their residence. But what I have found is that doing the /transfer does NOT affect voting for other players. It has be a very well thoughtout and utilized plan.
Hope this helps!
