Thread: Auto-packup of cancelled players' houses

It's strange how everybody have difficulties to understand mayor will NOT BE ABLE to packup a house in one click if the owner doesn't want that!!!

No grieffing possible!!

I repeat the mayor tool will not be enought but should be followed by an auto-cleanup using the account status and the last date the owner logon.

I cannot see in this solution a way to grief people, or abuse the system. Butat the opposite I see there a way for mayor to manage their city plan and a way to clean the rest, also empty house a mayor would not like to kill to not loose her status
And the last advantage will be to have server less laggy than now!!

Mayors should not have the right to pack houses under any circumstances, but they should be able to have a house packed up if they submit a ticket to CSR and that account hasn't been paid in over 6 months time.

Or the game should do that automaticly.

Otherwise, just return decay to it was before, and when it runs out of maintenance +x number of days for decay - it gets packed up or goes "poof".

Then we can have our cities back!

I'm going to be writing up something this weekend to present in the correspondent forum on Monday that should do some significant prodding.

Hiyas Friends,

Great work keeping up with everything Kristen, just thought I'd put my 2 credits in... With all the changes that has happened in the past 6 months (ie. Combat Downgrade, Discontinue Decay, list of 20 other things,)I do feel that the squelling wheel gets fix first. It's a shame simple things have been overlooked because some finacial wizard is praying that thier actions (or in this case inaction) to bring old customers back and making sure they have items, to keep them... Why are "we", the paying customers, paying to upkeep such a large database for those 1000s of accounts that have been cancelled, just incase Josine Smoe decides WOW isn't for them after 6 months? Clear the database of all "cancelled" accounts. You quit your job, and decide you want to go back, you take a chance of losing all senority, minimum wage entry level... Fact of life, live with the repercusions, if the player had friends playing, they will be back up to where they were in no time.. tha'ts what friends are for?

Clear the database for us PAYING customers. House packup, item destruction, are all there, someone push the dam button! Don't be afraid of how it will effect those that ARE paying, those that AREN"T don't care either!!

I am being harsh with my push, but this is how I feel.I pay $64 a month to play, and the available bandwith, lag in general and over-all waiting for items that are not "game generated" nor controlled by the AI is quite disturbing.... cut your loses, make room for the new people. It will better the ecomony for alot of things in game aswell.

Thank you for listening

I am a Mayor of a Rank 4 city, even if after a purge, we will not lose our rank even with losing 20 people, but i will have more room for decorations

I fully agree. I am mayor of a city on tatooine and we have 63 players registered in city and some people have multiple houses. Only about 7 people still play most left after the famous CU. Something has to be done.

I agree something needs to be done and done soon. Not only does it effect our cities but it also effects where people can farm resources. It is getting harder and harder due to scatters settlements all over that are just taking up space and landscape.

My city would likely loose a lot should this ever happen, but I am willing to take the hit and get more people for my city. I think it would breath some life back into it in the end.

Is there any way we can push the Devs just a little? Prod them a bit more so that this might happen fairly soon? With the house packing system in place it should be a lot easier thing to do than 6 even 3 months ago.

for what it's worth:

i filed a CSR ticket regarding this issue. the radiant CSR, CSR-ChrisG, is one of the most helpful, cooperative, and friendly folks i've ever dealt with. he sympathized with our problem but said that there was little he could do. apparently, SOE feels that players with cancelled subscriptions are entitled to that space and it will be reserved for them should they care to come back. i can see the logic behind such a claim, but i think it's unwise from a long-term point of view.

let me suggest a somewhat unpleasant and draconian work-around:

a player structure will remain in game indefinitely until the player's bank account is completely empty and therefore unable to pay the structure maintenance. this means that structures outside of cities will remain indefinitely unless structure maintenance is reactivated (with hurricane beta on the horizon, one has to wonder). however, sturctures that are part of cities are--*i think*--still liable to taxation. that means that you could raise the taxes for citizens and structures to try to drain those bank accounts. you would have to give "kick backs" to people who could confirm that they're still residents (which requires some account labor), which is an inconvenience, but the major problem lies elsewhere: should those with cancelled accounts come back, they would find that they have no money and that their structures, including all contents therein, have been destroyed.

now, i've never tried this and i'm not sure it would work. but if it would, it presents a better way of making the case to SOE: "you want your cancelled subscribers to feel that they can return without penalty and pick up right where they left off. if you *don't* pack up their houses, there is a chance that those structures, if placed within existing cities, could be destroyed and the owners could have their bank accounts completely drained. who would want to come back to that? if you really care about protecting the investments of those cancelled subscribers, you would pack up their houses for them." at least, that's what i would hope SOE would do for me were i to cancel my subscription.

There are no taxes that are working right now that will take any money from a player's account unless they are online. Property Tax comes directly from the structure when it pays maintenance; since maintenance is turned off Player Cities were getting no income which is why it was turned off for cities as well. Income Tax is only taken out of an account if that player logs in; if a player has not logged in for 3 weeks, they will only have Income Tax taken out for the week they do log in.
