I'd like to be able to create a river through the city, too - and build houses alongside it. And covered bridges, or just bridges, over the water. Adding water to cities would be fun...provided there was no way to generate an impenetrable moat that would prevent enemies from entering.
I would like to see things like the ewok village that is on the water. maybe have so many citys on each planet be able to be built on water. that would require speacial water specific buildings. i would also say that you could only build on water by connecting to other buildings (so there would be a walkway) and only with in the city limits, to keep the water from being covered over with buildings
A building where people can go in and talk to the npc inside to load up their post box or somebody elses, they can deposit up to 10 items in it which can be picked up at the other persons registered post office like a bank. Also colour schemes for the city and moving npc's eg entertainers (clowns mimes etc) maybe even a zoo that ch's of the city can deposit animals to. Water features of the mayors design would be nice too a bit like the way you can do it in theme park.
My 5 ideas for future city development:
1) Buildings the NPC cities don't have: arena (placed by master brawler only? PvPing gets xp in there?), firing range (same for master ranged whatever), temple (useless, but cool TKA hangout for one, or for fanatical nightsister wanna-be's like me).
2) Faction aligned cities. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY WANT TO GET RID OF THIS!?! That's one of the most fundamentalconcepts behind manyplayer cities. My city is the blasted New Korriban Academy, and we're rp-ers. What do you thinkwe want to happen to the stray rebel spy who wanders in. All turrets open fire, and if he survives that our Hands of the Emperor and elite stormtroopers better finish him off and send his head back to SancT or wherever he came from. I can't believe they want LESS faction in a city. Give me more! Give me imperial banners everywhere. Make Dathomir gardens exclusively imp dark side available. You know! As for walls, I don't care too much either way, but I like the look of a row of medium houses stuck tight together in a street, and you should have to follow the traffic patterns on a street, so yea, walls are good.
2b) In fact, you should be able to hire a recruiter and stormtroopers just like you hire trainers. I want a platoon guarding my front steps! And a colonel who salutes me when I walk in to survey my domain. MWahahaha!
3) I'm really really excited about purging old accounts. That is #1 on my list of what will improve my mayoring experience. We have a prime piece of real-estateand don't want to move, but5 houses screwing up our city layout. I'd even consider going farther and letting mayors EVICT houses, now that the packup feature is working pretty well.
4) Militia. Iwant to be able tohand out rank, and when inside the city limits, givemilitiaunrefusable duel status. I want my militia to have a clear commander, follow orders, and blast rebels and rabble-rousers. If a reb comes in and militia spot them, while they're in the city limits they should not be able to refuse a duel. /endduel should only be an option as soon as they're back outside my city perimeter.
5) City planning map. There's a great website http://swgplanner.tyger.org/?mapdata=ch.-3.-5.0on which I make maps and send out to the guild leaders in my city, as well as militia. That way they know where we're headed, can approve various plans, and know where to put new citizens' houses when I'm not online. Making this an ingame feature that can be game-mailed back and forth would be super useful.
Ok, just kidding, here's 6) More buildings, decorations, ect... to make it customizable. I think the apartment complexes and uber-factories listed earlier on the thread are a great idea, as are the facades for streets, and arches between houses, and street signs, and all that other stuff. The more the better, and for the architect profession too (which I've been in for a long time now, and is neither very lucrative or rewarding in it's own right.)
That's my 2 cents.
Long live the emperor!
