Ok they probably need to look at a way to get rid of cancelled player structures, but this is a good thing for alot of people, for me I travel alot and dont get a chance to play for simetimes weeks so if I dont pay enough my stuff will be threre when I get back. I my guild we have someone that is deployed to Iraq luckely they were finally able to log on but what if the werent able to but the kept the subscription up to date their stuff would be gone, we had someone that had to take a leave of absence to take care of a family member but they came back their stuff was gone. There are other factors to people not playing other than leaving the game think about those people too, they want to play but cant. So is it fair that their stuff gets destroyed or if they gave mayors the option to remove structures when the condition reached 0, would you want to be the one to destroy someones house then have them come back and wonder what happened.
The idea is not to destroy the house or the items inside. Removing or moving the house would not destroy the house or the items inside. It would move them to the owner's bank. That is extremely fair. The terrain should not be held hostage by people not actively in the game.
I would even be willing to propose the following in the interests of keeping the game for active players, not people away from the game.
1)Inactive1 month timer => permit mayor to move (not pack up the house, just move it around)
2)Inactive2 months timer => house packs up and moves to player's bank - removing them from citizenship and from all taxes, etc.
Inactive is defined asuser does not login to the *server* where the house is.
Ignore whether the account is cancelled or not...should be based on inactivity.
Your house should decay and poof if you don't put maintenance in it. This is in no way related to the inactivity timer. I lost a house on Bloodfin due to a database bug, with items for multiple players in it. It was not fun nor was I satisfied that it was due to maintenance not being paid. However, it is just a game and the items were replaceable. The bottom line is if you have a one of a kind item you don't ever want to lose, keep it in your bank or on you.
When you think about it, 3 months in a game is an enternity when you have plans to change things and keep your town fresh.
I too have modified my town by negotiations and have a great relationship with my citizens. I am only there to help them with their needs and to am charged by them to keep things orderly. Currently I cannot effectively due the second part. I am at the mercy of people who have not been on Starsider for months and that is not how it should be. I have a second toon on Bloodfin, and I login at least once a month to check on the house and items. My other toons, if they had ever had houses should have had their stuff poofed (or with the kinder, gentler SOE) packed up and put in their bank.
All these sugggestions are great.
We do need to focus on this nmot going live without a mechanism for us to keep our cities viable
I agree scooter everyone is posting some great solutions.. however can such things be implemented that quickly into the game or will we have to wait 6 months and watch our cities rot? They need to delay that feature from being put in the game until we have something to counterbalance it.
