Sorry for having a totally different viewpoint on this but the CSR's shouldn't have intervened... The Devs gave Mayors the ability to destroy city halls - all he was planning on doing was playing the game according to the design.

Now - saying that - DEVS - get off your stupid butts and remove the ability of ANY Mayor from destroying a city hall. We have asked, SOOOOOO many times, to change the mechanism - for example, at the very least, require a city vote to occur after the Mayor pulls the switch and if enough citizens don't concur, the City Hall stays.

This entire thread SHOULD have been unneccesary and any need for CSR intervention as well. If you want to keep it thata Mayor can unilaterially destroy a City Hall, then CSR's should not be allowed to stop them. But if you want to fix a very stupid design issue, then we won't need to constantly see threads like this.

See, I have to disagree with this line of thought. Simply because something is legal and allowed by the status quo does not mean that it is just. If I had the power to kill someone and it was completely legal and allowable does that mean I could be justified in doing it? Just because the mayor is given the power to destroy a city hall it does not mean that he should do it on a whim which many of these scorched earth politicians appear to do.

Well, Trebs this thread was immeasurably helpful along with the messages and tells of support I got from the politician community.

The destruction of the city hall would have been fixable as I was standing by with another hall ready to go, the part that the CSRs took interest in was the fact that the incumbant was going to have his gf place another hall to scew up our town or force us to move, this went just a little beyond griefing one person.

Thanks Bajeezus and all of you. We are now a bustling metropolis ( Rank 5 ) and I have been gaining experience ( knock knock ) and leveling quite quickly in the profession.

And you are all right, this does need to be changed, destroying the hall circumvents the voting mechanic entirely, save the friendly transactions between characters...

Thraken,

I can share your pain, because in about the same time frame (2 weeks ago) on Talus/Chilastra my opponent did the exact same thing. Rank 3 city, he was losing the election, and he said if I did not withdraw my candidacy he would destroy city hall. The only difference being, nothing was said about griefing with additioanl city halls week after week. So 24 hours before the election finalized he went through with his threat (Friday a week ago). Luckily I popped on only hours later and was able to drop another city deed. It set us back massively though. We made Rank 2 city within a week, and we may even be back to Rank 3 this week. We lost our cloning and bank. Hospital and Cantina stayed, but now they no longer show up on the city buildings report, even after the radius has expanded.

For those wondering, yes, the incumbent remains active on our server. Some have seen him. I have passed his name around to local cities, but that's as far as I want to pursue it. We're moving on.

I have to agree. I don't think the mayor alone should have this ability.

The very first day we had player cities I did a post and warned about this. The posters here said well that's just too bad and the Devs did not fix it. So here we are.

A simple solution to this is not allow the mayor to do destructive actions (Taking money out of the treasury or destroying the city hall) if they don't have at least majority vote.

We had a similar situation. Our Mayor pulled the City Hall. He didn't even take the money out of the Treasury first. We had close to a million credits in it. He pulled it because he was about to lose the election. We have since rebuilt and the city is doing better than it was.

Why don't these so called politicians try working on issues with their citizens instead of acting like a four year old and getting their ball and going home to mommy?

Please put in better controls!

Perhaps some sort of timer? When the Mayor tries to delete the City Hall, an email goes out to all city residents.

"MayorDude has decided to tear down your city hall. You have one week to elect a new mayor. Failure to do so will result in your city hall being destroyed and your city being disbanded"

The one week timer gives plenty of time for each citizen to decide to leave or stay with the city. If they stay, they can try to elect someone new before the city hall goes poof.

Excellent suggestion - and one that's been brought up MANY times before... but the devs would prefer to allow an obviously griefing tactic to remain in the game, and take up valuable CSR time, than just fix the problem.

I mean - if they can get rid of anyonebeing able to give / commands in city buildings, they can get rid of the ability of a Mayor to use the "Destroy Structure" radial. In the RARE instances where a city really does want to get rid of a city hall - let THOSE few use the CSR's to do it... rather than keeping this ability in game.
