Thread: politician/player city changes on test

Since some posts appeared while I was typing all that ...

The patch notes clearly state that you will not be able to register to run during the third of the three weeks. Even if someone entered the race on the last day of week two there would still be plenty of time to mobilise support against him.

Any city with zoning rights enabled (which is a no-brainer if you are concerned about griefing) will have nothing to fear.

Edit: Originally wrote "concerned with griefing" which has a somewhat different meaning...

(Dies laughing)

You mean that if my old guild, had just waited a few months, they could have taken the city from me. (Laugh!) Then they are silly rash people. Heck they didn't even wait for the other generals in the guild to get on before deciding to leave the city. Guess I'll need to drop a new city hall before this change happens.

I have a few reservations about the new system of XP as well.

Let's say you are a novice politician who's agreed to take over the mayoral duties of a large established city. After 3 weeks, you win the election with 30 votes, entitling you to 9,000 XP. Is there an XP cap that applies here? As I recall, you only get XP for 2X your next box. So, as novice politician, with no boxes trained, I get 2,000 XP. This isn't a problem now, as you throw away a bit of XP for one week, and then make up for it in following weeks. However, losing 7,000 XP will be painful, and you cannot advance yourslef or your city for another 3 weeks!

My city has about 60 residents. That means each week I get about 6,000 XP. At this rate, it will take several months to master politician. Now, of those 60 residents, only about 30 are active and play regularly. Assuming I can get all of them to remember to vote, that will amount to 9,000 XP every 3 weeks. Add to that the 2,250 bones (750 per week times 3 weeks) and I'm now getting 11,250 XP every three weeks versus the 18,000 I was getting before. In addition, I'll have to carefully balance that 9,000, because if I'm a low level politician, I'll end up losing a lot of XP to the XP cap, since it all comes in one shot now instead of once a week.

If I were to start a new player city as a novice politician, I would have to wait 2 weeks to be able to place anything in the city beyond city hall. (first box is 1,000 XP. It will be 3 weeks until the election, so vote XP doesn't count, so after two weeks, I'll get my "free" 1,500 XP (750 per week * 2)). This will make new city advancement quite slow, as many city amenities won't be available for potentially months, depending on city size.

In short, this really benefits mayors in new, active, small cities, where you can get most of the population to vote. This basically gives you a 750 XP per week bonus. However, players in large, established cities with players that don't play often really get nerfed by this. I can't think of many cities that I know of that are large and have an active enough population to even get 90% voter participation.

I would be happy with this change if: A) the XP cap was removed from politician, B) if the weekly bonus was higher, and C) if unopposed mayors would continue to get full XP. As it stands right now, it's going to hurt new mayors the most, especially new mayors in old cities.

I should have proposed a solution to this without just complaining.

It would be nice to leave the Exp the way it is - per week as opposed to 3 weeks but force voters to vote AND give us the 750xp bonus per week to make up for non-voters.

Thats the same amount of XP but keeps cities having the ability to grow as quickly as they can. I know its probably too late though.

With the new system @ 750xp per week Im slowed down by 2 weeks for 1 box, then with the 3 week wait - I'm only going to get 1100 exp. So 1100 exp (11 citizens) + 2250 for the bonuses = 3350 every 3 weeks. With 1100 xp every week thats 3300 exp every 3 weeks. I would rather miss out on 50 xp every 3 weeks but be able to grow my city a little faster and have my votes automatically counted vs. having to make sure my citizens vote and sitting around not being able to place new terminals, etc.

I dont think this is a good thing. Unless I'm missing something? Am I?

The xp per vote is tripled.

So if you have 11 voters, then every threee weeks it equals 3300xp. Add in the 750xp mayoral bonus per week(2250) and you will have earned in that three week time frame 5550xp, not 3350.

I'm with furrycat on this one. The changes are good if they come into effect only if there is an actual mayoral race going on. If there is nobody running against the incumbent mayor then this system is a real pain. Being on a three week schedule is no big deal, I can handle that. I just don't want to have to hound my citizens to vote in order to get xp.

Citizens not wanting to deal with the hassle of voting for no real reason does not mean they are not active in the community either. I would rather have my citizens helping recruit, helping to move new people in, organizing city events etc... instead of having to delete a spamemail from me every week reminding them to come and vote for the mayor that is already the mayor...makes no sense.

Now if there is somebody running against me then by all means the new system should kick in. I should have to work and campaign to retain my position if I want to. I have no problem with that and in fact it might be fun to do from time to time.

If the changes go in as they are now I guess I'll have to start spamming emails to my citizens and hound them at every turn to make sure they vote. I'll just plant my barker droid in the middle of town and have it say... 'Don't forget to vote for the mayor that is already the mayor!!'

So I think the changes can be good with a little refinement.

really great now you can take over a city and destroy it with just 2 votes minimum
we all know that most players don t care at all about voting
so any bets when we see the first post "our city has been taken over" ?
as much as it s a pain to change the mayor, having 50% for it is a should be a MINIMUM requirement!

Wow This is terrible... Most citizen only vote when they are lead to vote usually under constant pressure...

So.. As MT said above... This is really terrible at a first glance.. now the city has to worry about 2 mins to midnight shotgun voting... Most mayors in the game are infact alternate accounts and pretty much rely on the incumbant all vote victories.

I beleive a better solution to this voting problem would be to leave all votes go tot he incumbant BUT MAKE the MAYOR visit the terminal once every 3 weeks to make sure they are active. if they are not active then send the message to the City and have it flag the Encumabnt inactive [outgoing] which would give flag the mayor to be removed from the list upon next vote session (giving the city 3 weeks plan around a dead mayor) and prompt a replacement mayor to step up in which the winner of the runner up eletection would win.. The OUTGOING mayor would not have any votes UNLESS the city choose to vote for them.

But.. This is a step in the right direction.. I hope this isn't our dev time for the year.

guys, please READ CAREFULLY:

You may register to run in the race during the first 2 weeks of the election

which means you have a whole week between "last chance to get your name on the ballot" and the end of the voting cycle. an email is also sent to EVERYONE when someone registers. voting once every 3 weeks isn't unreasonable, so if your city doesn't give a crap about voting now it's the time to educate them.

I know not everyone's concerned about the voting process. I don't know about you guys, but I'll take any attention I can get from the devs. as I've mentioned elsewhere, they're looking into sales tax. RIGHT NOW. I can't force them to fix our entire profession RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT, so those of you who think this isn't cool please just consided us ignored by the devs until our revamp.

I am very shocked they've tweaked mayor. It's nice to see them make it easier to become mayor, or to stop being mayor, now if they can only tweak it so there is a reason to STAY mayor...
5 stars for the devs. This is good progress. I only worry they now consider us 'fixed' and will put us back in the closet again.

OMG Thank goodness! Saved at last! Any idea how long we might be looking at before such wonderful changes might be moved from TC to live? Heaven's knows, it's been a long time coming, and the situation in soo many cities is critical. Oh I sooo pray it isn't months down the line.

Very good to hear we are getting some changes in. Personally I think the xp per vote should be raised to more than 3 times, because getting 3 times xp 1/3rd of the time is not a gain.
