1. How far along are yourpolitician skills now? (ex: 2, 3, 4, 1)
Most of us are somewhere in the middle right now, with lots of 2s and 3s in skills, only a couple of relative newbies, and just two masters as of last week. Ranked in terms of advancement popularity: City Customization is most popular, followed closely by Martial Policy, with Fiscal Policy and finally Civic Policy lagging behind. I would guess that useful IV-rank skills in customization (large gardens) and martial (faction terminal)account for their popularity.
2. Have you already sold back any politician skills for skill points? Which skills?
No: 46
Yes: 2
There were quite a few "not yet" answers mixed in, along with a couple who have gone as far as they will go and do not plan to reach master. I would expect this answer to change quite a bit as more of us reach master and start to shed skills that are not needed by our cities.
3. How many citizens does your city have?
Average: 69 Largest: 150 Smallest: 16
4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get?
19 out of the 48 responses have had an opponent at least once. None of the respondents ever had an opponent that got more than a tiny percentage of the vote.
5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor?
Only a few of us have not been mayor since the founding of our cities, and in those cases, several were due to friendly transfers after the initial rush to get the city founded.
6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA?
Private: 31
Public: 17
PA governed/founded/supported: 27 (several public cities incorporate PAs)
Almost all of the cities report using zoning restriction, even the openpublic cities for design and lay-out purposes. Many cities report being founded, run or supported by multiple PAs.
7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account?
Main: 41
Alternate 7
I expected the alternate number to be higher, given that lack of gameplay is our #1 issue, and thought players would be using placeholder alternates as their politicians. It seems that politician players are biting the skill-point bullet for the most part, although 7 out of 48 is a significant number to be paying for a second account.
8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business?
Average: 11 hours per week. Lots of folks gave qualitative answers to this one, but one common comment was that it takes up a great deal of play time, but that the commitment is also decreasing since the early growth of the city. Will be interesting to see how this settles out as cities mature. Of course you will always have some who spend 2 hours and some who spend 30 in any group of gamers. 11 hours a week is also surprisingly high for a profession in which players say there isn't enough gameplay.
9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician?
We've got everything here, folks.
10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations?
Manufacturing: 8
Research: 11
Stronghold: 3
Job Market: 2
Cloning: 1
Medical: 1
Lots of comments from the "no" people that none of them are worth it. Several from those using them that they plan on dropping them or that they are using them despite not being sure of the value of doing so.
There you go, folks. A little snapshot of our community.

100% of my game time. If not playing my mayor character, I leave an AFK message asking to /tell my alt. I use my mayor character only when absolutely necessary, my alt is militia to avoid switching PCs all the time.

3. How many citizens does your city have?

4. Have you had opponents in your elections, if so, what % of the vote did they get?
none to speak of we had one guy who ran for a week but he dropped out almost immediatly at my request to maximise my skills and xp so i could get the city to a stage that would benefit us all, i also assured him that it was only a request and that after the city was essentially "finished" i would support any and all rival mayors and indeed vote for someone else myself if i liked their policies
5. Have you been the mayor of your town since its foundation? If not, were you placed into office in friendly succession or did you oppose and defeat an incumbent mayor?
i was the original mayor and have supplied nearly all the structures to date
6. Is your city a "private" city, with restricted zoning permission, or public, open to all settlers? If private, is your city run primarily by one PA?
there are maybe 6 guilds in Mos Elsewhere (tatooine, bria) although we do have restricted zoning permissions so that new residents can be screened to a small degree, what happens is i basically have a short chat with them and go over our city laws with them and as long as they agree to follow those laws they are welcome to move in
7. Is your politician character considered to be your "main" character? Alternate on another server? Alternate on same server using second account?
my politician is an alternate account character simply because of the skill points, my personal view is that being a politician is a lot of hard work and really it shouldnt cost any skill points at all but just cost apprentice points, there is very little chance of things becoming unbalanced and to charge skill points for a class that has no economic (you cant make cash out of it) or combat (you certainly dont have enough skill points to be too effective a fighter) impact seems rather pointless.
8. How many hours per week do you spend playing strictly as a politician, placing structures, giving permission, travelling to train, communicating with citizens via chat or mail regarding city business?
well while i was off work i was spending maybe 25 hours a week doing general duties planting structures making plans organising deals and bringing in new residents and generally solving problems or issues with griefers etc, i will now be spending maybe 10 hours per week doing this as the city and its laws are pretty well established and i have a resident elected council to take some of the strain
9. What was your primary profession prior to implementation of politician? Did you keep or drop that profession to become a politician?
no this is an alternate account
10. Is your city currently using any of the specializations?
