You know as a mayor of the city of Stargate I understand what some people say when they say it costs alot of money to run a city. It does - and a good chunk of it comes out of my pocket.... however - with that said...
The city - isn't any means mine - it belongs to the cities citizens. They are the community that makes up the city. If I was not doing my job I would expect to be voted out in a heartbeat - despite the fact that I put nearly 200k a week in to keep things afloat.
A mayor is an elected offical that is to provide a service to the citizens it is not the other way around. I got lucky - having probably the best group of people in the galaxy that support me - but I wasn't always the mayor and when it became obvious we needed a mayoral change the city council talked to the existing mayor and then the council talked to the citizens and the following week I was voted in.
I see being Mayor of Stargate as something I give... not something I can demand or own. So I feel the mayor that is threatening to destroy the city and its structures is just plain wrong. Most I would do is remove my personal belongings from City Hall.

That is my point.

This is all in game situations. CSR and tickets have no buisness in this situation. Weither this lady paied for anything or not. She alone did not become mayor. She either place the cityhall or was voted in and the devs gave her the power to do as she wants. If she wants to pay everyones taxes good if she wants to place taxes threw the roof and remove 50k a day good. You have the power to vote her out or move out of town. This is a RPG. If someone wants to Role Play as a Jerk let them. This game got stupid because people ignore the game siuation and turn into best friends.
Miss. Mayor whatever you do is because you can and no csr can take it away.

I am the mayor of a city in the Valcyn galaxy, and I do agree with Kabooobie somewhat. I am somewhat of a dictator in my city as well. The city was founded by, and is run by the guild which founded it, and I am simply the chosen guild member to run it. If you want to join our guild then you must reside in our city and accept my characters mayorship of said city. If you don't like it your welcome to leave. If you try to run against me then the guild will take action against you, to include kicking you from the guild, banning you from the vendors, etc. If need be, you will be city banned as well (I am actually against city banning except to punish TEF hunters within my city, and to prevent shuttlethiefs, aka people who build just outside my city without even asking to be allowed in the city to take advantage of the shuttleport without paying the cities taxes). Anyway, if I were doing too badly, then obviously the guidl would get together and determine that I should no longer be mayor then the entire guild (which is 90% or more of the cities population) would select a new mayor and vote me out. So I am not a total dictator, but just because you want to run against me and try to gather votes, if the guild leadership does not agree we would take actions to prevent the new mayor wannabe from getting elected.
On the other hand, I would NEVER delete anything in the city just to get even with the residents or the guild for voting me out. The city is doing far too well and I could not destroy its reputation like that.
I think we need to establish some sort of assassination methods though ...
I mean afterall, the way I run my city could be compared with some third world countries, and in places like that opponents have a habbit of dissapearing.
Anyway, just my two cents. I hope the CSR's and Pappi here are able to stop the destruction of your city hall, I think it would be a great shame for an established city to be ruined due to some schmucks childishness.

Yes they do have business here and they should do something. However in our case they would not. In our case not only would they not interveneand they would not correct it after the griefing was done, nor would they move the factories that the old mayor placed where the city hall used to be. Leaving us to rebuild completely (which we did)

I absolutely agree with you.
Our metropolis operates soley on taxes, but even if a mayor gives a donation that does not give him/her ownership.
Everyone works together to make a city what it is

You have no right to stop somebody running against you. If they were not meant to, then why do the elections exist?
Also, there is nothing wrong with people plopping their houses just outside your city. Simply, do not offer them the bonuses from bieng in your city. They will still have to pay the extra fee on the shuttleport. I'm glad i'm not in your guild. I'm not surprised people do this, as you force them to live in the city if they join the guild, even if they do not want to.

A mayors first obligation is to his or her citizens..... When the Mayor's own feelings and goals start effecting the city then its time for a new mayor, and if that mayor cant see that....then the mayor is a fruit cake hands down.

I'll get flamed for this, but I really don't care. I would never pull the shuttle, the decorations, etc. However, I paid for every decoration and civic structure as well as approximately 75% of the houses in the city. If I wanted, I would pull that stuff in a hearbeat. Fortunetly I'm not that petty, but it would be my right. I agree that the city is everyones. However, if someone who paid for something wanted to take it back, it is their right.

Not really. Dropping a civic structure is effectively a donation to the city if you pay for it yourself IMO
If you have issue with that raise the taxes to get more money in the treasury for you to withdraw the credits over a series of days to pay yourself back.
The city belongs to everyone including the civic structures and decorations.

Hmm, our guild's city is a pretty well established monarchy. My character is the Mayor, but I'm still answerable to the guild's leader. While we have no problem with non-guild citizenship, we do mandate guild players maintain residence in the city to keep us at a minimum of Level 4, and we're getting close to Metropolis again. Mayorship is completely controlled by the guild, no competition permitted by agreement when moving into the city. No non-guild members are allowed into the militia, and those that are have lockset rules for permissions to place new structures in the city.
So far its been smooth sailing. We have had only one major issue when another guild that moved in turned Imperial on us, but we managed to get them out. But other than that, the city is a very well oiled machine.
I've seena lot ofopen democratic cities collapse from internal politics before going anywhere, and more than a few rise immediately to the largest size possible, only to implode when a power struggle tripped. Only a few of the cities established under a guild flag have folded from internal strife.
It may not have been the Dev's intent, but the more controlled cities are far more stable.
