Thread: New Content: The Pavement Thread
Two things as far as paving this is one suggestion, how about if the area within the previous size of the town was paved. So an Outpost has no paviing, a village has 150m circle paved, township is 200m, city is 300m, and metropolis is 400m.
I really don't like this idea but it would be easy to implement.
I would rather see something a bit different. For civic buildings, the mayor should be responsible for paving the 'right of ways' and for private buildings the mayor should be allowed to pave along the boundaries of lots, but not within the lots themselves. Within a lot owned by a player the player should be responsible for any pavement. Both placing and cost. This would allow the mayor to place streets along the boundaries of lots, but individuals to place driveways, walkways, etc. The same design should allow players to place items outside their homes. And be responsible for any costs. I have several members of my town who have agreed to 'sponsor' streetlights outside their homes and businesses, but this would move the onus (and cost)to them. Any items dropped would simple come off the item count of the building itself.
As far as the item count for the cities, I do understand the various concerns of the developers about item count. For pavement I would like to see mayors able to designate waypoints and have roads built between the waypoints. The width of the road would depend on the size of the city. Maybe 2m x city size, but between private structures this would be reduced to 1m x city size. Each road (pair of waypoints) could then be treated as an item. Combined with the idea of allowing individuals to place outside their buildings this might actually reduce the item count within cities, since individuals would be responsible for placing their own outside decorations/lights.
