Wow....if Politician didn't cost skill points...I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO OPEN A SECOND ACCOUNT...

Sorry for the caps.

I opened a second account so our city could have a mayor....so I am effectively paying $16 a month to deal with grief.

Without that SP cost, my main could have done the mayor thing.

Garrrr....

Some really great suggestions, Vodo.

For me, I'd love some way of viewing the structure placement grid to make it easier to plan my city out. I'm on Corellia, and those ditches make it a serious pain sometimes to make a well-laid city. Once upon a time I mapped out a rank 3 radius for us armed with a personal harvester and graphing paper. Then come to discover that just because a personal harvester can be placed in a certain block of squares doesn't mean other structures can.

I'm all for a skill-point reduction. I don't know that I like the idea of it being a no skill-point class, though. Too many people already view politician as a no-brainer class when in fact it takes a ton of work and dedication to have a successful, thriving city. Just because a place has a bunch of buildings in the same location doesn't make it a city in and of itself. You need people living in those buildings and participating in the city to be considered a success...in my eyes at least.

I was really glad to see the changes on Test Center for Politician (lined up for publish 11.2). It's a good step forward to getting some of the kinds of changes politicians and player cities sorely need.

I thought about the no skill points used for politician and thought yeh great idea do same as for pilot....right on!!

Then I thought, hmmm what difference would that make, it would allow the politicians to use those skill points for another profession...Excellent!!

Then I thought, oh but wait!!!!

That means anyone can take on politician at no skill point cost, which means everyone on the server can be politicians.....ARGHHHH!!!

This also means that EVERYONE in your city can run for mayor, it would be a nightmare to keep anyone in office longer than 3 weeks..lol

So maybe think harder about the no skill points issue as it may bring a bigger headache that you currently have, especially with the new voting rules / procedure etc!!

Excellent post and thread. I agree with most of what I am reading here. A non sp career is definitely warranted. I too have a second account for mayor. THose points I could free up would be great for cm.....

i agree 100% they need to do some serious revamping to politician and make us a more important part of the galaxy. let us rise above player cities once we have achieved all we can acheive.

Well i thought about this, and there is nothing to stop them now from doing it, if someone wants the "power" that comes with mayor lol they can certainly try, as it is I see no benefit from holding office. With skill points gone it would make it easier for them to run. But that still does not take the minds of the citizenry out of the equation. They will still pick the best candidate. I built my city, and finance it. I do a good job, and have many loyal people there because i listen to them, I am not worried about losing to anyone. removal of skill point cost for mayors only benefits the mayor. I personally have offered mayor to anyone, and the response i get is "I don't want the headache". I am not worried at all.

Cheers

I am not going to mix words with you, but the fact remains that anyone can if they want take politician, at only 15 skill points, they do not have to go up in it if the city there running for is established, your insistance shows that you seem to be afraid of an actual election....isn't this the point, I mean I'm not, why are you? Untill there is an ongoing benefit to keeping politican a O skill point cost is needed, and all it is after you master it out is a burden, there is nothing to keep the appeal alive, so again I say to you that the only reason you have spoken against this is fear anyone will run, not good enough, everyone should run, and encourage more people to do so, the fact remains unless they make this class worth having, people who would run against you will tire quickly of mayor, and if they just "do what they want" then they wont last in office as people will just oust them. So i see no detriment.

And for the record....it is not the "Mayor's city" it is the people's, remember that and a loss in office won't seem like someone is taking something from you.

Best Regards

Yes but at the moment the thought of giving up the skill points to possibly get accepted is a MASSIVE risk to take as they have to give up needed points. Take away the points and the risk becomes plausable as they have nothing to lose.

So there is in essence nothing to stop them taking novice politician, as it costs nothing....or am I being thick on this?

And although as mayors we see 'no benefit' from holding office, each and everyone of your citizens may have their own ideas that they would like to try, with no skill points lost, they can then...give it a try.

Just think its a dangerous game to play, as stated in other threads, mayors could lose their citys to various undesirables.....make it so everyone can take up novice politician and you increase those risks......infinitely!!!
