Any changes to improve cities I am totally in favour of. As both Architect and Mayor I am sorely looking forward to any new city structures, decorations and so forth. Further variety in the external appearance of houses would be a great start, the ability to lay down roads, more varities of decoration, NPCs the list goes on I would love to see them all.
Secondly, making the politician class something beyond one-shot talents - the cantina is placed, don't need that box now, for example - would be most welcome. I had been working towards master politician for some time before JTL's arrival, but the call of shipwright has forced me to delay that quest - it's not like I needed any of the skills anyway.
Either remove the skillpoint cost, which has its undesirable side-effects, such as the "wrong" sort of people becoming mayor, right now you have to be committed to your city to become mayor, lack of point cost will attract those who desire power above all as well as the fine political class which exist now, but I digress.
What I'd like to see is the ability for politicians to help SOE in the content drought this game suffers from. I have a large city balance at my disposal, how's about I do something with it for the benefit of my citizens and beyond?
I'm thinking of a "city quest" terminal, with quests set by the mayor, when the quest completes it is removed from the terminal. Items could include delivering X quantity of a certain material. Or delivering X component to another player or NPC. Escorting NPCs from the nearest starport to your city.
I have other ideas along this same line, but I think you get the idea. You could then dedicate one column of the politician tree to nothing but this quest system, with more options as you progress.
Rather than reduce the cost of politician, take the courageous path and give us something ongoing we can do!

This is a very good summary of most of the main requests that have been posted in this forum over the past months. I think it would be great if our correspondent coulduse it to createa "top wish list" as a sticky thread. This list would contain all the request on which the correspondent feels the politician community agrees, with priorities defined for each item. The listwould be updated each time a good idea is posted, discussed and agreed, and each time one of the wishes is changed into reality by the devs.
I am sure that having such a wish list would make it easier for us to be heard; it would also help focus the discussion and build something, I've seen so many great ideas disappear in the flow of the forum, if all the good and constructive ideas were added to a wish list we would be sure not to forget them.
This thread is a very good start to create this top wish list.

Frankly 5 items wouldn't cover very much at all, hell my list is pretty definitive and still I think theres alot more that could be done and added to making Politician better.

Where is this list? Why isnt it a sticky thread?
What I'm talking about if a visible and comprehensive list where everyone can see quickly and easily all the main wishes the politicians have, ordered by level of priority. A top 5 list is a good thing, but maintaining a more extended list can be useful, because 5 items is not much.

Do Devs/Content Managers acutually READ and/or CARE what we want/need? If we were JEDI or PILOTS we they would be killing themselves to add content and perks.

the Top 5 List is in the first thread on this forum titled: Got a Question? Look Here First! (Useful Links).
and I believe the list is only 5 items long because that isall we can submit to the Devs for now. we keep it updated as things change, so new issues get added as they come up, and the old issues got fixed.

lol guess they haven't learnt that, you need to do listen to your customers and do what most of them want, otherwise some leave... pretty obvious really

just a note i can send email to residents only by putting "citizen" in the TO: section of my email.
I agree with pretty much everything else. I've been mayor of our city since Player cities came out last october.
Its a sacrifice i have made for both guild and residents. i wont complain because i made that choice, but i will support most of the changes suggested int he hopes that 1/4 of my skill points will have more fun in their use.

Great Post!!
I've always wanted to try out Politician because I like to help other players and being an organiser for a city can be interesting. Sadly because of the SP requirement for Politician its really not possible. Considering we only get one character per server, it's really pretty limiting to be a Politician; esspecially for those who only play on one server.
Politician has absolutely no tactical benefit to affect game balance or tactics. The strength of a city is not based on a Politician anyway, but the number of city members. For me the SP requirement is the biggest problem with the class and the reason for it's unpopularity.

This sir is wrong. Dedication and activity of the mayor is the key to even get it grow. I know there are some mayors that just "hold still" and do nothing except granting zoning rights. But the success of a city DOES depend on the politician and his work very much. At least if you consider a city being more than just an assembly of scattered buildings and a city hall. Even at level 2 or 3 a city can be fun and beautiful, some dont even want to be bigger.

I agree fully with this, The Success is in a whole dependant on the the mayor I beleive, they are what shapes and molds a city to be what it is. There foresight and vision is what determines a cities appeal with the rest of those on a server, in a sense they are the embodiment of the city. Further that it is also the mayor who engages those within the city to remain informed and involved in a cities growth and progress. That mayoral addresses, and regular updates keep people caring about where they live.
