I think its a great thing that politician is a 0 skill point proffession now.
Most of the cities ive been in and visited are nothing but dumps with horribly disorganized houses and shops and even worse, theres nothing that tells one city apart from another.
With anyone being able to be politician we get the ability now to have these dump-cities get a makeover.

I am betting we will simply have more dumps. Skill points or lack thereof are no excuse for crappy urban planning. A city's personality is defined by its leadership and its citizens. I don't mean to sound harsh or snobbish, but many cities are simply destined to fail for this very reason.

I am very excited about this change.
I've always wanted to try my hand at building a small town, but I just couldn't see giving up the skillpoints to do that.
The way I see it, this will introduce new potential mayors and bring to life the voting element of the game.

Howdy all
This is a great patch for Politician. I was a mayor for a long time right from the start of cities. One of the reasons I retired eventuallywas the sp it took. I doubt that many cities will experience a hostile take over.
This patch will definately help our city out in that our current mayor is leaving soon for Iraq and he wanted to make sure that he handed over the reigns to someone before he left. People were starting to think of what they could of dropped to get the 15sp back.
I am all for this one!!

I agree.
I tried the city/mayor thing once, and it would have been ok, if I would have been inclined to recruit a bit.....lol Along with the number of people it takes to get a city anywhere near up and running, and then the resources required to make the buildings, then the all out insane pain it is to level up, leads me to believe that yes, there might be some who try to take over a city, and pick up politician for this purpose, but as I am sure all of you know, most cities have a very solid base of core people that would make a takeover impossible, especially with the voting extended to 3 weeks, instead of every week.
As for the skill points being returned, I am all for that. Politician is a thankless job to begin with, and once you get your city up and running, it was a total waste of skill points. Thumbs up to the devs and the people who helped them finally see the light!

The planets will have as many cities as they have now because the main planets are capped. So no, I doubt you'll see that many more cities popping up because of this change.

Not a politician, but I am watching the mayor of a city I frequent get grief for it as people simply after the title try and convince him to step down.
It brought to mind a thought, just a concept from an outsider, that Iwanted to run past this community... the idea would be to create a way to gain Politician XP, very slowly, without the use of a city or vote.
Factional Point conversion to Politician XP in the same way it is currently used for combat skills, with the idea being the politician has strong ties to that faction in edition to his citizens. Keep the exchange rate low, and it could be enough to ease the pressure people are trying to place on existing mayors, while at the same time offer enough of a challange to never really be an issue. with 74k xp from start to finish, and an exchange rate of, say5 fp+ to 1 xp as an example, it wouldnt neccissarily be flooding the community with cityless master politicians.
Of course as a Master Smuggler faction broker, I might think the idea is good simply because it could make me rich... which is why I post it here for comments
