hey "duke" I may agree with your opinions on this matter, but I in no way agree with your expresion of such views.

There are alot of things on these boards that make me want to do the same, but if I was to bring myself to the level you have chosen I would be no better than those that annoy me on here.

Keep it cool, you have something to say.... say it but don't talk down to people.

people like to throw around the term griefing too easily. This is the design of the system and it is working as intended. Nobody is contesting that it should be changed. It should be. It's poor design. But for now it is the way it is. Deal.

No reimbursement. No city reset. Game Over!

The official SOE response:

I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunately CSRs can not reimburse for cities that have been destroyed by the mayor that runs them. These mayors are voted in place by its citizens, I am afraid CSRs can not reimburse for a mayors poor decisions. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Until you've actually been though such a disaster, you cannot possibly understand how much grief one person can cause. Unless you know your mayor in real life, there is pretty much no way you can trust anyone 100%. You can lose all your city building in a few minutes and there is nothing the citizens can do to stop it. And once the deed is done he can stand there and laugh in your face. Brilliant design SOE.

The world accoring to Garva:

"Also to be bluntly honest, everyone keeps saying "there are this and that many people leaving the game" when its just plain not true. There are no fewer people playing at peak time now than there were 5 months ago. (thats not even saying how many active accounts their are which has also infact Increased over the past 6 months steadily) while I know you will probably just see this as smoke it really is the truth."

Looks like the only thing left to do is warn the rest of your server to watch out for this guy. That sucks bad, but it's done now. No getting it back. So you might as well spam his name.

I for one see this as a grief, I also see SOEs and other peoples point of view on this. They established a set of rules for the handling of a City. This is one of them, it's total BS that one person can bring down the hard work of 60+ other players. I hope you posted his name for all to see on your server board.

The only thing we can do is submit a ticket to change this and continue this thread to get SOEs attention. Someone posted the only way for a City Hall to be destroyed is if the citizens drop below 10. I don't think there is a way to have no Mayor in the mayoral race. there will always be an encumbant.

On a side note, Natalia, I totaly agree with you on all your posts here.

While I think that this really sux for you guys, unfortunately I have to agree that this is not a CSR matter. You just got a bad mayor and couldn't tell till it was too late. Really sorry to hear it.

This is not a CSR matter. This is not a BUG. Live with it!

Mayors are responsible for the City Hall and do this if they choose. This has been public knowledge since Player Cities were on test and there were enough stories about Mayors doing this to make people choose their mayor carefully.

This is politics - you have to make sure that:

1. You choose to live in a city with a Mayor you can trust OR

2. You appoint a Mayor that you can trust to run the City you are building.

You did neither of these, and you are paying the price. I would suggest that you move to a new city, like mine in Darkfire, or start again, putting some proper thought into your choice of leadership.

This is NOT a bug.

This is NOT an exploit.

It has always been clearly stated that the mayor can do this... you guys just made a bad call. Sorry.

It is no different to real life - don't expect the game to do everything for you... you have to fix some stuff for yourselves.

Yours,

Shouting that it's not a CSR issue doesn't make it so.

This is a serious design flaw and in the eyes of alot of people, a grief. No, they should NOT "Live with it"

Mayors in real life cannot go around destroying city hall just because they don't get their way.

Once a City hall is placed it should stay in the game. No ONE person should have the power to destroy any civil structure. Regardless of whether or not it takes the Mayor to set it down, once it is down it should take a literal act of congress to remove it.

I suppose the easiest fix for this poor game design would be to make it so that:

If a mayor attempts to destroy the city hall more than 24 hours prior to the city update, then all citizens are send an email letting them know of the attempt, and the mayor will have to wait until the next city update to destroy the city hall.

If the mayor attempts to destroy the city hall less than 24 hours prior to the update, then all citzens are send an email, and the mayor will have to wait24 hours then wait for the city update after that before being able to destroy the city hall.

This would give everyone amble opportunity to vote in someone else. Though something tells me that the Devs would not implement this any time soon.

this is not good.. people keep saying that the city does not belong to "one person" or "one PA" you know what?? with the current system.. the city belong to the current mayor.... why do I think that?

Lets take a home for example.. (my home)

I can decorate it, I can destroy it, I can redeed it.. I can do whatever I want to it.. its my home...

What can a mayor do to the city..

can decorate it, can destroy it, can redeed it (only shuttle, and cloning not city hall) and get away with it...

This is a sign of a single ownership.... everyone on the board (well most of the them) stating it is not YOUR city it belong to the citizens... well.. the citizens have ZERO say when a city hall gets destroy... I know SOE states that it was the citizens poor choice in choosing a mayor.. what if the mayor was good? what if the mayor did his/her job for 4 weeks to get that shuttle port.. what if the mayor did everything and one day just snap and destroy the city (due to whatever reason.. I remember one on datooine cause of disagreement and the mayor just destroy the city out of spite)

This is something the citizen cannot control.. SOE should put in a system that A city hall CANNOT be destroy without the consent of the citizens (i.e. need votes.. say 75%) to do so.. this way.. then we can say a single person "owns" the city.. since it would take 75% of the citizens to vote for destruction...

It is dishonest to suggest that this is not griefing just because the game design allows for it.

Griefing: To take an action which is specifically designed to ruin someone else's game play experience.

Exploit: A flaw in the game design which is used to achieve purposes that were not intended.

So unless you are going to sit there and suggest that this person did not take this action specifically to ruin other people's game play and unless you are going also suggest that SOE put this aspect in the game so that people could become a mayor and, without the citizen's permission, destroy the city on a whim, then this can be described as nothing more than a griefer using an exploit to ruin other people's game play.

That means that it is a matter for SOE to deal with and it is a matter for the CSRs to correct.

I think I would have put up a city hall and asked for restoration of city rank to shorten the time to recovery.

But, looks like they're not going to help you.

Oh well.... was worth asking anyway.

Welcome to Chicago, if Daley can destroy Mig'a field in the dead of night then your guy can destroy the city. Is it wrong? Yes. Should he have done it? No. Should he be given a consequence for his actions? Deffinitely however there is no way to do it.

All we can do is petition to have this power stripped of mayor and put into a referendum terminal where people vote on an issue (destroy city hall yay, nay) that is major and all citizensget a mail when one is put in there. If they can do it for ballot boxes and the city hall one then why not this?
