I really think that neutral players should not be effected by any of the factional stuff including scans. Most of us keep our crafters with no fighting abilities neutral and I think that faction cities and all you have suggested, would make a better impression with the players of this game if there was some way to protect the crafters while in a faction city.

Gloria, Lowca: Wanderhome & Test Center
9 accounts, 18 characters, ok this is a tad nutso
Lowca, LIBERTYLAND PARK on Rori, our fun city geared to role playing fun
take the shuttle, racetrack, Wildlife museum, Romance Inn, pub, cafe,
Droid Factory, Whacky Hospital...much more
Come visit, bring friends and roleplay. Pull up your overhead map, each vendor marks a site for adventure and fun.

I also consider a faction channel will not be a good idea, because the fact that there are spies - players / guilds of opposite faction that have chars of the opposite of thier own faction for the purpose of spying into bases vunerability times, making it a big waste of time and faction points to placing bases.

But, anyway, the point is, there would be players that would be reading whats going on that is NOT truely of thier own faction, so they will be able to read everything in either Rebel or Imperial.

I , myself have 5 SWG accounts, started out as an Imperial faction, because my friends I started with were, even tho, I originally wanted to be Rebel, my friends had quit playing SWG, and later, started playing with a RL female char, and that char is Rebel faction, so I changed my chars from Imperial to Rebel, and even to this day, I have chars that still have positive Imperial faction even tho they are Rebel, can easly switch sides , if I wanted to. Not that I want too, but the point is, if I can do it, so can others, and a couple guilds on the server have full time spy chars, that the guildmate is Imperial, but has an alt char that is a Rebel for the purpose of playing , and use for spying, or vise vera.

Opt

PS - SOE needs to disable the ability to destroy bases till they fix the problem of bases being destroyed so easly. It would add back in the game some excitement to playing, when you don't have to worry about bases getting destroyed.

Most players are not placing bases anymore , because of this problem, so to add more fun, SOE needs to take out the ability to destroy bases, so players that have faction points to buy bases, or already has the deeds, would go ahead and place them.

well i had no time to read all of the tons of post concerning this, so i hope it sno double post

but before i post my hopefully constructive post, i want to say once again, fix the known city bugs/problems before put GCW on us!!!!!!

ok i don t want to post the following double for each faction so just replace imp for reb and you have the same result

i dont think the idea of just putting a tag declared city on us will be a benefit for the war so i propose a little different point of view on this. Currently there are already several known "factionioned" cities fighting in the GCW. But most other cities are mixed and stay neutral. Also because the crafters/merchants are an important part of the city fundings no mayor will risk loosing them to go and play war inside its city.

So i suggest not the typical black/white status for city, like you are imps/rebs, you will die.

Status: Imp Stronghold
As knowImp city where rebs are not tolerated
whenever a covert reb enters the city he will be turned overt and the city militia will get a warning and be able to attack him.
City services like shuttle, bank, cloning, trainers, terminals... are only useable by imperial personal
City militia get the bonus of Stronghold per default
the stronghold has to have at least 1 base to uphold it s status
faction defensive buildings like minefields, turrets
faction decorations
buyable strong city guards engaging every rebel entering the city
automatic covert scanner

Status: Loyal Imperial City
a city likemost should be at the current timeline
basicly a city where everone can live and be
city services are open for everyone, but rebs have higher fees for using those
faction decorations
no covert scanners allowed
no defensive buildings allowed
buyable weaker city gards keeping the city clear of critters

Status: Neutral City
like they are now

Status: Loyal Reb City and Reb Stronghold see above at imps

this would give mayor s the possibility to alligance to a faction without risking the loss of citizens who don t want to get involved in pvp

for example my city is currently neutral, but we have far more imp than rebs in the city. we also have a good strong market for our artisans here. Turning our city into a fighting city of any faction may be the destruction of the city. The artisan will leave because they have no interest in fighting and they will loose their costumers from the opposing faction. Members of the oposing faction are also forced to move out of the city. I ve talked to several mayors on our planet and many have the same concerns.
Declaring to a Loyal City to any Faction would be no problem at all. Merchant s still can do their business here, but the oposing faction knows that they are not welcome here.

Actually M, all you would need to do is sort of delegate a certain area of your city to PvP (ie where the bases are) and you can have the best of both worlds. Just so long as everyone is of the same faction or neutral so the minefields and covert scanners and turrets can't accidently spoil someone's fun. Just have the shuttle and cloner focused on the merchant end, and put up some renamed statues to warn people about a war zone.

As for your ideas, I love them. Only thing is I'd like to have a middleground between the two, or just tweak the loyal town version. Basically make it allowable to place bases and such in towns but not required, and possible to ban the opposite faction from your services, but again not forced on the city. This way you can have a bit of the best of both worlds if you choose to, everything can always be reversible (just hire some rebel base smashers) just have to convince the mayor or vote in a new one.

Asian_Reporter had an idea that I thought was worth running by JEST3R.

It seems like a small issue, but could add much more of a GCW feel to the whole zones of control issue.

His suggestion was this: Add different types of music to different regions (Zones of Control)based upon their status.

Now I understand this is seemingly insignificant, but how often are people looking for a more 'Star Warsy' in the game... and we all know how large of role music played in setting the stage for the different scenes and settings... Why not try to incorporate that into the player generated content too?

I admit that Asian_Reporter was suggesting that mayors be able to selectmusic (from a list) that would play when someone entered their city, however I think that incorpoarting this into the Zones of Control idea might allow for this to be added to cities more easily at a later date... so the purpose here is two fold.

Well JEST3R, what do you think?

EDIT:

Also posted on the GCW forums... just to see what kind of feedback is given...

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!

My only problem is that Publish 11 is too far away!

Working on many aspects of proposals for the GCW revamp... mind you this is just a small part of the whole thing I am trying to set in motion.

So quickly, Faction chat would be used for Hey we need help quick type deals.. so spies really would not be much of an issue no matter how many accounts you have. It does not matter if the enemy hears us call for help, it matters we have a central channel to ask for that help.

The bullet listed suggestions a couple posts above.. I like them.

Zones of control are one of the Key priorities for the revamp, for me atleast, lets hope the devs do it. I will not be worrying much about different music for each zone... the laundry list of items I am requesting is so vast I need to keep a focus going and such geez whiz requests I would rather not make infavor of persuing in game purpose and functionality.

On Imperial scans... The crack down was nearly 100% Developer devised, neutrals are being scanned for breaking the law, it has nothing to do with the GCW....

Finally.....

This is the second thread on the issue here, June is when I need to have my full GCW battle plan ready to submit... Those interested in partcipating do me a favor.. review the talk, please take into consideration concerns I might have stated and simply provide me a bulleted list of what politicians want as far as in picking a side and becoming a part of the GCW.

I need a TOP 5 things you want in (related to the GCW only and preferably factional cities.) and then after in bulleted list other suggestions.

I'll then swing back by here grab the list for inclusion in the entire GCW suggestion proposal work up I am trying to compile.

realize more then likely the majority of all suggestions may not end up in game exactly as they are proposed or even at all, we are making a wish list and its up to the devs to pick and choose what they like or to ignore us 100%, but this is our primary means of input for the GCW revamp publish.

JEST3R

the city I am mayor of is strictly neutral......... I think it's very important to leave openplenty ofpossibilities for a city to remain neutral

but also I know anything that helps spice up our player cities will likely be benefficial to them

thanks
