Thread: Do you think we are being fair?
Needless to say, our city is not going to pay any amount of money to these guys. They are welcome to move at any time, but we will not be party to extortion.
Look, they can't fight you without your consent. So there are a few options:
- The ones who are not declared residents can be citybanned and unable to use all your lovely structures.
- Those who do declare residence have to pay taxes.
- They can vote in their own candidate (never going to happen).
You tried to handle this well, but they are being ridiculous. Other than the taxes, there is really no bone of contention. The only potentially difficult issue at this moment is that sometimes residency is bugged and even if they are residents elsewhere, they may still not drop off your roster, and will still continue to be taxed long after they move out. But theoretically they could avoid income taxes simply by declaring residency in a structure outside the city, or never declaring in the first place.
Keep your chat logs. Tell them you won't pay. If they continue to harass, /addignore. If they whine to a CSR you'll have the logs to back you up. The game is made such that hostile (or in this case not-so-hostile) takeovers can occur, and those taxed have two options: pay or move. So take a hard line and refuse to cave, because when push comes to shove, they have an indefensible position.
Well, he does seem to be going for that most coveted of prizes among the Griefnig set: "Biggest Loser on the Server."
Don't get twisted about it though, it just validates his approach. I posted something above that had the error of not being able to ban citizens, but the rest of it is pretty valid, diplomatic, and civilized.
Buuuutttt... seeing as how he's really and truly asking for it... There is always the old standard of placing a dish turret from an opposing faction in front of his PA Hall. The dish turret has a built in faction detector, so the thing is going to go off and provide a free transport to the clone center for anyone who gets near it. The trick is if he is the same faction as you - then you have to find someone who is from the opposing faction (that you trust or can pay to remove it later) that won't mind risking a turret. I would think there would be smugglers who would do it for the right price, and it would provide a more satisfying way of spending your credits than on extortion money.
Of course doing the above is borderline griefing, and two wrongs never make a right. That said, I'm guessing right about now it'd be a lot of fun for you to just stand back and watch the mayhem ensue as these clowns try to get into their homes. If they really are just a four person guild they will have some trouble taking out a turret without backup. Perhaps this will give you the leverage you need to negotiate their departure. On the other hand, placing a dish turret might just escalate the matter, so chose your course of action wisely. He did say he wanted a war though...
