Thread: Ghost Towns..solution required!

So don't require an absolute amount of time as a qualification, but a percentage of total play time on all servers. So if you played a total of 6 hours one week across 3 servers, you'd only be able to vote on the server(s) you spent over 2 hours on. Likewise, if you only had 10 minutes to play on one server, you'd still be able to vote.
That's actually a pretty slick idea right there.
Yep, a simple macro would put an end to this. Maybe if they put a delay on voting. Like in the US you have to be 18 to vote. Maybe you could make it so you have to be a resident for a certain amount of time to vote.
I have to say that Leladia's idea is brilliant...if it is possible.
But also I think some of you are presuming that this time based plan for eligibility is about citizenship. That is not how I intended it. I see no reason why you can't remain a city resident; just you wouldnt be able to vote unless you played a minimal number of hours.
But this idea pales into insignificance compared to Leladia's suggestion. ![]()
Well one of the main things is just the voting being required... If your a casual player then you dont HAVE to vote really...and that hassle alone could make some cross server people not care and give it up...who knows...
There will always be a work around, but There should be some changes to these ghost towns dont dot the map.
Generally, the argument that this is a game, hence players shouldn't be obligated is fallacious and ignores the fact that SWG is more than a game ... it is also a community.
That players should not be obligated to participation requirements clearly holds true in a static single-player game where your choices in how often, when and how diligently to play affect only you.
It also holds true for solitary players whose actions don't affect other participants in the game.
But establishing residency in a city is an act of community that has ramifications beyond your own person.
It affects the ability of other communities to grow and the very nature of the community itself. A metropolis of 90 ghosts and 10 real residents is a fraud that hinders the hopes and dreams of other players in other communities.
Now, that being said and with a little more reflection, I guess I don't care if someone lives in a city but doesn't ever log on. That's between them and their mayor. I just don't think those folks should count in the census or be allowed to vote.

This brilliant - you can characters in as many places as you like, but your vote and citizenship only counts on the character where you have spent the most time.
Not sure if it is easy to implement, but it would certainly fix the problem!
Our city Consortia on Lok is a busteling place now that we have the space port we are getting big influxes of hunters and others coming by and there are usually from 20 to 50 people running around town at most times.
What will happen is the busteling cities will get um bustier as people know that folks are there, the cantinas are active and the hospital is manned, vendors plentiful and stocked. The ghost towns will get ghostier less people will bother wasting cash to vist them and they will become unvistied husks that are a burden on their few citizens. Eventually the burden of upkeep on most ghost towns will cause them to bleed what few real citizens they have off and those who remain will have a big weekly upkeep that will be a big hassle to keep up.

You know..Not everyone wants to play like everyone else, and not everyone has to. Everyone pays the same amount per month for entertainment. If I want 7 accounts spread over 7 servers that is my entertainment. If I want to be a ghost then fine. If I don't then fine. The fact is not a **edit** one of you can tell me how to play my game. If server load is an issue then Sony can take the money I pay them per month and fix it. The last thing we need is more and more and more rules from the no life twits who play this 24/7, live here, and think they must control every bit of the game. No one is going to invest their time, effort, and resources into a city and make it free and open for all. It doesn't work. It never will. There will always be some wack who will try and screw up anything good people make. If you think it can be any different you are delusional. So instead of bitching for a nerf or new rules for everything that doesn't fit your perfect little way of game play, how about you chill out and just play. If it's too much stress..then quit.
Live and let live....Peace
We can at least ask you to use a different font size/color...but dont start shouting freedom of speech stuff at me ![]()
Do whatever you want, but if none of us dicussed any ways to change the game for the better, then this message board would be pretty dang boring...
