Mealora, Naboo, Gorath (-6666/-4444)

We managed to hire a new team for our local cantina and it turned out to be a lucky choice. As the cantina is now know as a place where good roleplay is possible, a lot of visitors came to our city.

As a result we got our 150th citizen last week and are now preparing a festival to celebrate this event.
however, preparations are now stopped due to the scavenger hunt. it's hard to get the citizen to participate in the hunt (especially because city mail was down on friday and saturday) but i hope we still have a chance to win.

The city update bug seems to be gone. Our city is finally able to support itself (we are at taxes 1000/5%/1%) while having a lot of parks placed.

The only problem i have right now is that we are almost out of room for new PAs moving in. But i think that's a good thing, I may get more time for my own business now

Sanctuary, Dantooine, Kettemoor.

Finally elected mayor after three weeks of an attempted transition of power. I've since ordered a full demilitarization of our city with the decay death of the last Detachment Headquarters. We had made an attempt to be a fortress city, but it was not successful. Due tosever population fall off from people leaving the game, we're down to 81 from 96 citizens and could potentially contract to sub-50 from AFK inertia and apathy. At the moment, I am starting an initiative to open the city beyond our guild as our senior leaders cut back dramatically on their play time or are moving on from the game altogether. Though it may not move forward, we are looking at either becoming a smaller city or opening the door to the chance that we might no longer be a majority power in the city. We're at a transition in as far as our direction, but the core of the city is still strong.

Shifting terrain from removed structures is proving to be a challenge to the removal of the minefields as some are now airborne and some are now underground.

The largest neutral player city, and the oldest city,on the server is no more. On monday after we upgraded I destroyed city hall after taking down the rest of the buildings(minus the shuttleport, it was bugged when I tried to pull it). There are several reasons this happening. For the past month I have tried to retire as mayor, i felt i did all that i can for the city and it needed some new people to come in with some new energy. I first said to people that we need to get out and vote me out of office or the city hall would have to come down. I didnt actually intend to do this, more of an emtpy threat because I knew it would be hard to get 130 people out to vote. I e-mailed away, week after week, and never did we break more than 50 people voting. There has to be some sort of change here. This system is crazy. There should be some way of steping down from office with out the destruction of CH.

There is another major reason i tore down HWF this week and it was something that was stongly debated. HWF was made up of 4 PAs. One neutral(mine), one Reb(the founding PA of the city) and two Imp ones thta move in. HWF was a neutral town that from the first week of the game was said that there should be no PvP in the city limits. Now i totaly understand the mechanics of the game and that if you go overt you should be ready to fight. Well in HWF we wanted peace, and for a time we had it. I myself walked though town countless times with other overt players of he opposite faction and not a shot was fired. It was known to almost all visiters and especially citizens that there i no PvP in town. Well this started to break down as the reb PA dectied it was going to wage war with the rest of town. They were very childish in this manner and even flamed our cities forums for weeks about it. As mayor i should have some power to eject people from the city or at least in some way punish them. How are we suppsed to lay down new laws, i know the game mechanics do most of that for us, but maybe we want a more utopian society. And if we let one person in that doesnt turn out to be nice, we have to ruin the city for that? We have no tools that let us protect our cities best interests. I say bring back things like citywarn and if they are abused, than that city will suffer in the long run. With the number of cities out there only the ones that are run the best and most fair will prosper. HWF was one of those cities, but we cannont rely on the hopes that all people are going to be nice and do whats best for their city, alot of people are still drivin by personaly goals and care for no one but themselfs. Please give the mayors of the game a way to keep this from happening to their cities as well.

I know the loss of our city was a sad day for bria, we had many people that were not involved with the civil war that broke out and to them it isnt fair. For that matter it isnt fair to all the people that ran vendors or shoped in our city. If anyone would like to know more about what the hell happend to our city please visit www.halfwayfar.com. The forums are loaded with bickering and flaming, so be prewarned. This will be the last entry for the city of Halfwayfar.

Good day and good luck to all of my fellow mayors out there. I hope this fate does not come to your cities. I hope we are given tools to prevent things like this in the future.

Legion of Bane (former SITH Legion) on Lok, Kauri. Imperial Stronghold Metropolic

Same old story - old PA gets disorganized (due to CSR disbanding it), and city looses all activity, and slowly start to lose members. This week we went down to 83 citizens. A day before the City Advancement I decided to compare the citizenship roster to the Guild Members list (40 plus). And sure enough - some guildies either forgot to declare residence or simply didn't havehouse! A quick email to the "lucky" few fixed part of the problem. A militia member found couple new guild members who immediately placed a house and declared residence. Couple more possible recruits are coming, so we should be safe from the "shrinkage" for now.

I am also playingwith an idea of cross-server citizen trade. Not a pretty idea, but I have a newby character on a different server who is in dire need for a home. We'll see how that goes.

I've been asking people to move their houses all week, and most of them did. Trying to close some gaps caused by destroyed Faction bases and poofing houses. And re-building the city in general, removing parks and statues, clearing up areas for new faction bases, expanding markerplace area, and so on.

Our city has also been blessed by shifting resources. Not yet sure what they are, but our doctors and chefs been placing chem harvesters and flora farms within the city like crazy. Good thing it's far away from majority of houses. And hopefullyincrease he city's income due to property tax.

City's mayoral position is still bugged - the old mayor was banned, and CSRs removed his character from office to help us run the city. However, the system still remembers all the votes he had as incumbent, thus every week his character wins elections as "citizen". CSR are awesome enough to come back every week and put me back in office. We should have enough active guildies to try mand do another vote and probably force the city into recognizing the real mayor. We'll see how that works.

The Desert Flower Commune is at 66 residents. When we hit tier IV, 3 weeks ago, we had trouble the first 2 weeks to maintain population to stay at tier IV and then all of a sudden I was getting 2 citizens a day. Some came wandering by, like the layout of the city and asked about the city and then decided they like it. Some were recruited by other citizens. We had 3 people return to the game and they had a friend in the city, so they naturally moved out there.

Problem I am facing, after we grew to tier IV, we inherented 19 harvestors and wind generators. I've contacted the person that has admin rights to them but don't own them. He has told me he is unable to contact the owners of those lots. I have emailed the owners of those structures and placed them on my friends list, but this appears to be a cross-server exchange. The admin owner states it will cost him money to move them and I've told him having them there cost me residents, experience, and the sense of community I've been trying to build and maintain. The bad part is this is on land that is real suitable for large houses and I have a few residents that have waited patiently for the growth and now want to upgrade from a small to a large. I've offered to help him find suitable land that is isolated so he wouldn't have to go through this again. It has been three weeks and I have received no progress on this situation. I have a few idea but just wondering what others have.

Other than that problem, I've established a Events Committee in the city and we have finally established a website and are currently working on it. A few of residents are changing their professions to help out the Commune which has been a real pleasant surprise.

What has your city done to grow or stablize population as ineveitable some citizens leave the city orleave the game? Directly recruit individual players? Rely on high traffic in your city to attract new citizens? Bring in new PA partners? Recruit for your PA and depend on that to fill your citizenship needs?

As Laeren said, it seems that the combination of being available and friendly has been enough to maintain, and even (slowly) grow our city's population. It's my impression that most folks are coming to our town via the shuttleport, so I tend to hang out in radar range of it. I greet the folks I meet there, offer any help I can give them, and inquire if they are looking for a quiet place to settle down in.

What doesn't seem to be an issue is city specialization. We've tried a few, and we've tried having none, and the city growth/shrinkage rates don't seem to be affected.

Our tax rate is rather low, and that might be helping us to retain our citizens, but I don't think it is attracting new ones as I've never been asked about taxes until after someone has decided they are interested in relocating to our little city of Ruaha.

Ostium Vepres - Tatooine - Bria Galaxy.

Well things have changed, and it looks like I will remain Mayor of Ostium Vepres for a while longer. How long that will be remains uncertain. Perhapes until the resignation option is available.
The problem was not a matter of getting out-voted. In fact we never even got to that step. We had our election conducted in our forums on our PA's website. One of the three candidates was winning by a landslide however at last moment she resigned from the election and left the PA. As she was an important member of the PA, the election was called off so we could focus on finding out why she left and if there was any way to get her back.
Things worked out in the end and we managed to get her back into the PA. I have not yet spoken to her concerning the election she would have won. I plan on giving her some time to really think about it.

The city has continued to stay steady in population. We lost a few people over some bickering within the PA (One of the reasons we almost lost our Mayor Hopeful). We are at a total of 76 citizens right now.
Despite some attacks by the local Krayt Dragons, the city has been relatively peaceful. There were a few situations concerning a resident who was granted zoning rights and began to set up houses directly around the town shuttle. An area we have left open for many reasons.

We are all sorry to hear about our neighbors in Halfwayfar and the fate of their city. Bria will miss it.

Nemesis City, Dantoonie, Chillastra

We are a 'PA Only' city, currently at 90 Citizens. We did not exactly plan it this way, it's just the way the City evolved.

When we founded the City (4 weeks after the land rush), we had a very detailed city plan, and allowed sections of the anticipatedraidus growth toaccomodate smaller guilds. We called them 'Neighborhoods'. We promoted this, encouraged it, but many smaller guilds preferred to remain in their own outposts.

Flash forward...Cities that had made the land rushand advanced quickly/on schedule toRanks 4 and 5 began to falter. These cities consisted of multiple PAs.In many cases, the cities went through mayors on a weekly basis. Today, these cities have either dissolved, gone 'ghost', or ranked down to level 3 and lower. Contact with the different mayors reported that each of these cities suffered from PA Power struggles, PAs disbanding, bickering, loss of citizens/houses due to inactivity/cancelled accounts, and a myraid of other issues that could not be resolved. Many mayors who endevored to maintain control and a communications system gave up... not for lack of trying, but for lack of tools in the game design to allow them to function appropiately.

Consequently, we made a decision as a Guild to keep the City as a 'PA Only' city. We had labored hard and long to develop our City, and make itCommunity friendly to all, residents or not. We did not want to see our efforts fall to the same fate as other cities, hence the decision to remain a 'PA Only' city. We do not regret thisdecision, even with the possibility of 'implosion' due to the '6 week you are out' rule. We would rather remain a Community focused on offering residency to our guild members and a refuge for all visitors to enjoy our services, or Marketplace. The city is closely in alignment with our goals of Community Leadership and we will frequently accomodate requests for trainers or buffing that our visitors have come to enjoy.

Nemesis City participated in the Scavenger Hunt, and we accomplished our goalof winning the prize. Since we are a Rebel City, we choose anX-Wing, and it is now on display near our Shuttleport. We consider ourselves 'Hosts' for theprize, and encourage players to come and visit it from all the Galaxies(and have an appropiate IMPERIAL WARNING to those who are not in faction alignment with ours ). The X-Wing is something we are proud of accomplishing, but also serves as a reminder to us, that team work, dedication, and challenging goals is attainable with effort and determination.
