well, lets say I have two accounts, my primary acccount is a member of the city already, one of the three bad guys. I create a new character on my alternate account, and declare residence in the same house my master account uses. I then become a citizen, dont I? Assuming my master account gave admin access to my back up account. I can then vote for the new guy.

Delete Character and repeat. Im betting the votes would still count. If this is indeed how they are doing it, it is definately grief play, and it needs to be put to a stop. Player cities need to be preserved for the people who found them, unless those people DECIDE to allow true democracy to rue the day. Whoever initially places the city hall, should be able to perform a military coup or something, just to provide a way back for the guy who spent 500k on that player city hall.

I think it is incredibly unfair for someone to spend a lot of time and hard work building up a city, only to have someone else swoop along and steap the mayor slot out from under them. At that point it is a simple matter to max out the taxes to drive all the old city members out, while you reimburse your own people on the side.

Nothing about this type of exploit promotes fun and fair game play. A stop needs to be put to this quickly, if this is indeed possible, or is what is going on.

An update on this; the challenger totaled 38 votes this week and our incumbent won with 55.

No new citizens were added, so perhaps the house placeing trick was not possible for them this week.

The bad news is that they were able to get 31 of the 34 new votes back again. This proves that these characters were not deleted. However all of the new voters that I have seen personally are brand new characters; unguilded, no badges, starting clothes.

As for the edge of the city theory, the houses are not all on the border, some of the are inside the rank three radius.

We've been in regular contact with several CSRs and they are taking us a little more seriously at this point. I think we've established enough of a record that if new problems arise we'll get a good response from them. So for the time being it's just a matter of dealing with the houses scattered around.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Another update...

With our city update this week our city progressed from arank 4 city to a rank 5 metropolis, thus extending the bundaries of the city outwards....

This last week I have been exceptionally careful with zoning rights, keeping the militia clear and revoking zoning rights as soon as a house has been placed...

Our grief squad had anticipated the city growth however, and used it to their advantage... by encircling the city with 59 homes they have prepared for yet another assault on the office of the mayor and thereby our city. By transfering these homes to persons recruited from other servers over the course of this week they will once again be able to flood the election with votes.

Is there a precedent for recourse against this sort of action? Are we without assistance from SOE? Does this not seem like clear cut griefing?

This looks to me like they had help from the inside. "Permission admin zenox"? Come on. Something isn't above board here.

While I would normally NEVER suggest such a thing, this would be one situation where I might advocate your disbanding of the city. It's one thing to lose office in a legitimate election, but these bozos obviously aren't playing by the rules, so why should you? Fight fire with fire. Take your City Hall (and the citizens who are loyal to you) and set up somewhere else.

That is our last resort and we will carry it out if we must.

In the mean time we are calling for help. Any who are friends of Elysium or have an interest in helping us here please contact our Mayor, Archonia on Starsider.

Thank you, we will keep this updated.

I'm not a player on your server. But i'm recent new mayor myself, and find this post realy scary how some people can make so much trouble. That of how they managed the first time to set up so many houses is a mystery and i think it will keep one for some time. That of the last step i find that there have to be changes, growing range when you city upgrade ranks is normal. But there should be done something about houses that get into range, they shouldn't be on the structure list and not counted to citizens imo.

I have posted already some ideas in an earlier post, go and see what you think. Maybe if it get a hot thread it will be noticed and perhaps changes something. The post is at: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Politician&message.id=29150

One person with zoning rights can plop down many houses then transfer the structure to someone else. Militia members can grant zoning rights so I would remove all citizens from the Militia for starters, and then do not grant anymore zoning rights for anyone else until it gets settled.

I hate to rain on your parade, but having "permission admin" in your bio is just some typo. I've found that in my own bio at times. Apparently if you /set permission admin instead of /setpermission admin it defaults to /setbio or something like that since it's alphanumerically first in order of possible commands which start with /set.

That guy's bio definitely has nothing to do with any exploit whatsoever. However it does sound like there is a coup at work in your city and I wish you the best of luck in retaining power. There may be some exploit in use by those attempting the coup, but I can guarantee that guy's bio has nothing to do with it. It's not some special code for the terrorists to decode and use to circumvent the need to obtain zoning rights. It's just a typo.

Thank you Arsheba, that's good information.

For the record we have removed all militia members.

As much as I would be surprised to find that a former militia member helped them, that is preferable than the use of an exploit because it means we can prevent it from happening again.

Regarding the houses they placed outside before we upgraded, that is apparently a valid tactic according to the CSRs. I can see how this would be legitimate if we were talking about an actual majority of players with an interest in the city, but in our case it happens to be three such players with help from dozens of outsiders who will most likely never enter the city again if the challenging mayor wins.

Unfortunately SOE really could care less. Oh they will say things like "valid tactic" and "we can not get involved" but they do have the tools to see if those chars are used and who they belong to and to let a city be over ran by 3 ppl, while lame, is what SOE is all about.

I, as sad as it makes me to say this, would probably do as some others said and disband the city.. pick up all placable structures and get a new town hall and start over. I personally would join your city if I played on that server but I do not

No intelligent person would say this was a legit tactic to over run a pc, I feel sorry for your troubles.

I doubt it would do any good, and defiantely not before they ruin your city but why do we not start a petition for the dev's to start taking active roles in bug infested, tool lacking, handi capped player city and mayor code? They created this code, dumped it on us in their "grand half finished" style and then abandoned us to the griefers. I think they should step up and fix this situation and prevent it from happening again.

I am not on the server myself but a friend of mine and me started a city where we know all the people so far except for one cause we didn't have 10 just yet so we pulled an outsider that acts like a newbie but I have my worries about him. This kinda worries me as I want to make sure my friend stay mayor. Once we get the militia upI will probly be the one to decide who gets in and who doesn't so I will know if this every happens and it is from the militia who is doing it. If this an exploit I really hope they fix it cause so far we are all good friends and we group all the time but if the guy we had to add to have our city has friends that can out number us and gives them rights then we don't have a chance to keep my friend as a mayor. With my friend as mayor I know we are set with anything that needs to be built as he is a master architect and artisan right now with master politician on the way. If this does ever happen then I hope they are all overt imps that come and try to take over cause we won't let him lose power without a fight.
