Thread: Structure Placement Exploit?
The city of Elysium on Starsider had about forty registered citizens with about twenty active players. The incumbent mayor was attempting to abdicate office and most active players had agreed to vote for the same player to succeed her. There was a group of three players that disagreed however and were backing a third candidate for mayor. None of the players in this minority group were members of the militia and as far as we know none of the militia assisted them. Yet two nights ago we noticed that this third candidate was suddenly receiving votes and the population total for the city was rising. The new citizens were outsiders, some of whom appeared to be brand new characters, presumably created for just this purpose.
In order to preserve the choice of the majority of active Elysians we asked friends of the city to come and declare residence there for one day and vote for the chosen successor. The contest went on for many hours as each group brought in new players and voted for their candidate. In the end the majority party won by a count of 46 to 41, with the incumbent receiving 17 from inactive players. However this result is still alarming as a minority of three (with four alt accounts) was able to solicited 34 votes over about 48 hours nearly stealing the office of mayor out from under the city.
We do not know how they were granted zoning rights, but we believe that some exploit must have been employed. Multiple CSR tickets have been submitted regarding this issue and we hope to have more information soon. Hopefully we will not see a repeat next week.
A big thank you to the twenty some odd friends who answered the call and declared residency in Elysium to help us. As well as those who helped us find houses and offered moral support. An interesting byproduct of this event is that Elysium now has 104 registered citizens, has upgraded to a "city" and will possibly upgrade to a "metropolis" next week.

I'm pretty sure that's not technically considered an exploit. If one of the people had zoning rights they would be able to /transferstructure houses they placed over to the new people, who would then be able to declare residence and vote. It's a little dishonest and nasty, sure, but not an exploit.
That is why my city which was founded by two pas will only have members of either pa on the militia, and if we accept any new citizens the militia grants them zoning, watches them place their house, then revokes their zoning rights with the same command. that way they don't place 5 small or medium houses and /transferstructure them. also the militia shows them a spot for their house so that we can keep the city neat and organized.
The point here though is that we don't believe any of the militia granted them zoning rights. If we are wong in that, then it is less of a mystery and not an exploit.
So far this week we don't have any new citiezens. However the challneger has registered again and has a couple dozen votes from the citizens they moved in last week.
True, that is good to an extent.. however trying to wade through the issue of city planning will be a bit of a nightmare as there are so many 'ghost accounts' that we will never be able to contact these people in order to move houses, or arrange anything in some sort of meaningful way. So after this next publish, they will stop being citizens two weeks after they haven't logged in, and their houses will remain until they've decayed, which could take a long time, who knows.
Until then we've instituted tax refunds to all friendly citizens, and maxed the income and property tax rates to try and flush out the vermin. *crosses fingers* Wish me luck.
