Thread: Fighting mad yet again

Some good news about the character purge from Fan Fest Player City forum...the structure part of it is ready to go as far as the actual process goes. It's just waiting on a few technical issues with infrastructure to be fixed before it will work properly. So it's getting close.
They have the intention of sending out e-mails to everyone well in advance of this. They will also try to let mayor's know ahead of time what structures in their cities will be affected.
The way this is going to work is not a complete destruction of the stucture and items. What they are going to do is basically roll-up the house and items and place it in the player's bank. So they don't loose their items, only their land. Incidentally, they're working on making this kind of system available to players in order to make moving around easier.
I'll be posting more at the end of Fan Fest to sum up everything I've got notes on as it relates to Player Cities and Politician. So keep an eye out!
Khristen, forgive me if I seem less then enthused about this.
When I talked to Tiggs at Celebration 3, I got the distinct impression from her that SOE was no where close to working on this and was more caught up in the CU/RotW stuff. Unless they had someone in a back room tinkering on this, I'm in one of two schools of thought on this. Either A) Tiggs was talking out her rear and they have been working on this and could have easily done this a long time back instead of screwing us for so long or B) This is a haistly thown together idea and will havehuge potential to wipe out alot of people.
While I am all for a character purge (got two people that where perma banned and still have thier stuff in key areas of the city), I have heard about this time and time again. I really wish it would happen so that we could get on with it and fill the empty spots that have formed over the past few months in our cities. I'm not to thrilled on the idea of us getting "advanced warning" to prepair for this. Remember, respec was supposed to tell us when it would end.
Again, I'm not here to be the downer, I just real don't think SOE has any desire to remove/relocate/purge anyone for fear of them returning to the game the next day, see thier stuff is no longer there (be it stored, deleted, or what not) and just cancel and walk away again.
One other small note if interest, if they ARE working on this as they are mentioning, the idea of it being usable by players to make moving easier would make the vague patch notes about allowing items in the character transfer service make a little more sence. Perhaps you will be able to take non server specific stuff with you (ie, no resources, armor or weapons) but thats for another thread and forum.

Cigaran, whether it comes soon or later, it's good news. Advance warning or not, it's good news. (Most cities know which chars are due to be purged and which houses might get rolled up anyway) They already made it so players who return will not come back to find all their stuff deleted. It is only condemned.
Now... it's not been fair at all that players that never took a break or cancelled their accounts or that have behaved themselves well enough to not get banned have had to suffer the debris of those people who do not even play the game anymore. It's not fair that some cities still have a rank or even exist at all simply because they have enough ghosts to do so.
It IS Fair that this "House Razing" will clear the way for those of us who still love this game, love our cities and actually play the game! It IS Fair that if someone comes back after a long break or resubscribes, that they find their possessions neatly packed away safely in their bank. They left. It is not logical or reasonable for them to assume everything would still be right where they left it if and when they came back. They quit playing. They shouldn't be able to eternally squat on land that *active* players want and need.
And I'm sorry if that came across a bit harsh. I am just getting really annoyed with all the server merger doomsayers and people with cancelled accounts still posting on the forums with bitter attitudes.
Let those of us who still love the game, have fun. Quit raining on our parade. Please.

Oh wow. I just noticed my post from yesterday is one of the ones that got "moderated." Hmm. I certainly did not flame anyone. Odd. Perhaps something I said was one of those inadvertent secrets we're not supposed to discuss in public. Ah well. I was trying to be supportive of the original poster. Not the first time I've seen good posts get eaten along with the trolls.

They shouldn't be able to eternally squat on land that *active* players want and need. Again, agreed. I'm just leary of when the announcment will be vs when it happens. Time and time again, we've been given timetables on alot of stuff in this game (Smuggler Revamp anyone?) and have seen those dates come and go. If there is going to be a purge/raze, great. Just let us know when and by God, keep to that time table. Please, please keep from posting until such a time as you can definatly hit the proposed date (or just a few days after if need be) and let it be. The CU was talked about for over a year. Every profession and thier mother has a revamp comming and we still sit with the same basic issues day in and day out with posts that talk about "upcomming changes" and "propsed revamps". I'm just alittle sick of all the propaganda. There's an old saying, "**** or get off the pot." Thats about where I'm at reguarding 99% of this stuff.

Let those of us who still love the game, have fun. Quit raining on our parade. Please. Lol! Once again, agreed. I didn't take it as a flame or anything of that nature. We're all alittle frustrated here and I think everyone knows that. We where given the ability to make not just a guild but a whole community with player cities. We where promised and given a wide range of control over them. In the year plus that we've existed, we've seen those abilites be taken away time and time again and seen our ability to have any control in any shape or form removed due to a few people that seem to want to abuse the system more then use it for its original purpose. As for forum access after you cancel and being a doomsayer, cancelation should instantly remove ones ability to post, period. In the end, it would save the Moderator's a huge amount of time from editing and banning some idiot that just keeps spewing crap out thier mouth just because the are jaded. As for the Server Merger people... All I can say is /lowBlow.

Oddly enough, this is the one forum that I don't really worry 'bout the flames too much. Most of us are mature enough to discuss our issues and differences with out flaming each other. I think that just comes from the realization that if we run the cities with that kind of additude, we quickly will be out the door!
Turn off lurk mode, I have a feeling that we're going to need a ton of people's opinions to keep the "Purge" from going horribly wrong.

you tell me, Tiggs almost had to pounce me for scaring the devs and yelling at them for sales tax
Woohoo! Go get 'em Pappi! And who said anything about server merges? And why is that the first thing people think of? It was the first thing most of guildies said when I mentioned this to them.
by the second PC panel, kstarfire had to pin me to my chair O.o
the devs said they're not planning on a server merge. they *are* planning an inactive character "purge" that doesn't actually delete their items but frees up their houses, so hopefully that'll come soon
Interesting news, thanks for the info! ![]()
Pappi, what was their response when you yelled at them about the sales tax thing?
Oh, and maybe the reason people are confusing "purge" and "merge" is because they rhyme? ![]()

Considering banks only hold 100 items and the smallest house holds 100 (most hold 200), I'm guessing that the rolled up items will show up in a separate part of the bank, or as a "package" you have to "unpack" somewhere. Like one of those fancy Harry Potter tents that fits in a backpack, but when you set them up, they come complete with bunk beads, a kitchen and two teapots.
as far as I understood, it would be similar to how they gave back lost items from vendors to TCers. it would all end up in their inventory (but for the purge case it would be bank), and you just can't put anything in until you take enough stuff out.
I agree with Artex, somethings shouldn't have been touched and now they are trying to find ways to undo the headaches they started. Couldn't leave well enough alone idea, comes to mind. Every city and company /glares at SOE, cuts thier own throat to make a buck... SOE has 6 games out and each one is plagued by the other for people to play.. the market isn't getting smaller, nor is it getting any bigger. Same number of people just spread out between the games.
Perill wrote:I am scared that my city will get swooped away with this if i happen to not be online for a couple of days..
as the devs stated, when the "purge" happens there would be at least a month's notice.
