Thread: Come on, seriously now.
I'm not interrested in PKing much at all. I think it sucks in SWG presently. But I am interrested in being part of a universe where it exists.
You spray your threads about non-consentual pvp all over just because you're uptight about getting killed while shopping or something..
I don't get your motivation or your point. What is non-consentual about physically moving your character into a city limits that _MAY_ cause you to enter into conflict? I don't get your argument about non-consentuallity at all!
I'm sure i'm not alone on this one! I does this "giving up" concession really a "i was wrong" and is "you won't get it" really a feeble attempt to save your ego?
C'mon.. this is a board for open discussion. Where does non-consetual pvp come into a city zone where players can be warned to leave?!
Sluggy -- we completely "get" what you're saying ... we just don't agree.
All governments rely on the power of coercion to maintain order ... all we want is some of that power to maintain order in cities.
Our City's militia has very strict rules about using /warn ... violating those rules will get you kicked out of our militia. But yes, we *do* want the power to actually punish someone who comes into our city and threatens us or acts like a jerk. I don't see a thing wrong with that, and a lot right with it.
Slugeater I do not think you are looking at the entire issue. Sure one guy can be shrugged off but some of us hard core Imperials (and rebels I am sure) are not dealing with one person we are dealing with 40+. City ban would take care of part of the problem but to have our citizens and militia hide in the banned area of our city is not an option nor is it saying to the attacking gang that this is our city and you need to leave.
You say get into the other faction and go PvP yes thats part of it, but as you probably know once they die and clone they are not overt anymore, so now you have 40+ grouped up opposite faction members running around your town. The are mad (they just died) so they are going to causing problems.
I really cannot understand why it is hard for people that think like you to understand this. This affects all players even neutral. The bottom line is take away the /warn and you effectively take away player cities it may as well be a group of house in a row some with ban on them.
Sorry forgot to mention this. Maybe some of you who played other games like SWG recall the “care bare” servers and how that was? Take away /warn and your taking the same steps they did, your Turing this game into carebear.
I totally agree that if a player does not want to fight then they should not have to, but I think even the newest of player who walks into a player city and gets warned will have the common scene to get the heck out of doge.
"The bottom line is take away the /warn and you effectively take away player cities it may as well be a group of house in a row some with ban on them. "
I don't feel that way. The city I'm the mayor of (47 citizens as of today) has NO militia, and we're having a good time anyway. We have designed plans, host events, have a nice view, and all. It doesn't feel like "a bunch of houses". The city Hall is the symbol of our working together. Like a marriage ring, if you will. The ability to shoot at people wouldn't make it fell more "city-like" to us. A city is about a community of people.
You can protect your layout with zoning rights already. You can ban the people from the civic buildings. City warn won't help, a real griefer wanting to annoy people will come naked and clone in your city before being banned if he's smart anyway. I just don't see how killing people can help you feel more of a community.
And it really has nothing to do with the GCW. If you want to oppose a faction, you can join the opposite one. That is the proper game tool to do so..
They do NOT always leave. This is too naive. I have dealt with TOO many griefers in my gaming to even allow myself to consider it.
Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...
Come on, chant with me
Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...Leave /citywarn in...

Slug, that's absolutely great for your town if they don't feel that they need a militia. We don't all feel that way, though.
I've also said time and again that /cityban should immediately refund any cloning center and shuttle fees, and reset the default to closest friendly cloning facility, as well as ensuring that no shuttle tickets work into the town.

Ok.. how about the right mouse button? That walks you into city limits.. you have to actively do that... Right? You're not forced to be in a city.
There's duels outside of the GCW.. and there's /citywarn... and there's guild wars... why do you think PvP is limited to the GCW? There's plenty of opportunities for both player conflict and player cooperation.
And you can have dictatorships. You just have to control the military in the town.. get a majority of the population in the military and then attack folks that won't bend to your will.. They'll either fight back, or leave. This is the way dictatorships work in real life too.. Whether it's by a charismatic personality, or by lies and deceit, or by theocratic control, dictatorships only work if the leadership has a large group of folks willing to do their bidding. That.. and it takes vigilance.
Voting is only a game mechanic. That doesn't imply dictatorship or democracy. When it boils down to it.. all systems of government can only exist if a large and strong portion of the population are willing to go along with it.
But the point is, that entering a city is something you have to actively do. You do this knowing full well that the possibility exists that you could be warned to leave the town. You have to ACTIVELY PUSH A BUTTON OR TWO to go into a city. Think of it exactly like a duel or joining a faction. When you choose to go overt, you're pushing a series of buttons that make you open to immediate attack by opposing faction members. With cities, you're making yourself open to delayed attack with fair warning. In either case, it's consentual.
consentual pvp hunh, ever seen a declarec combat medic throw and area heal in a crouded bar?
BAM tef's for all and uh oh, even the neutrals can now be attacked. Does that mean that TEF's FORCE people to have non consentual PVP? Why yes it does!
How about faction scanners, those FORCE non consentual pvp as well. You choose to be in a factin, so you consent? What abouit people that just want to do PVE, that does not mean thaey want to fight other players. Non consentual PvP inherently means there should not be a TEF for healing, or trading. But there is, so we allready HAVE non consentual PvP.
Why do people that love PvP play SWG instead of Shadowbane you ask, because we like the concept of Star Wars, we all grew up on Star Wars and we are gamers. Playing in the Star Wars Universe is a fantastic chance to live and play in a universe that captures the imagination like non other. The original design of the game included the /warn feature as a selling tool. If I knew PvP was gone tomarrow, I would cxl my account and go back to Shadowbane, the only thing holding me to SWG now is the Universe concept of the game. If this was any other concept I would have quit it already and moved on.

By trading with an overt, you know you're getting a tef. You actively decide to trade with that player. You can see ingame if a player is overt or not. So it's really YOUR choice to get a TEF.
As for the CM thing, looks like a bug to me. A neutral can't heal people with a TEF. Since you can't prevent the guy from giving you a TEF, that's a problem if what you say is true. (Not putting you in doubt, just never saw it myself.)
And since people seem to make it personal, I for myself am NOT neutral. I'm not talking for myself but for my citizens here, that got killed while being neutral some other day.
1) Fixable by making it so a combat medic can only heal like that with group members/aligned faction.
2) You made a choice by being in a faction.
3) People were abusing /citywarn. When something is abused, it is taken away until some way to fix it (if possible, ways have been detailed elsewhere) comes up.
4) The greater the abuse, the quicker removal happens. Thank the immature abusers for your loss.
