Yes, /citywarn was removed due to the massive amount of abuse.

I'm wondering, though, if some sort of /citizenwarn could be used, as a disciplinary measure to citizens. Basically, this would differ from /citywarn in that it could only be used on citizens of the town. It would function the same way, however, in terms of being able to apply a TEF to them.

Some points of interest in this idea:

  • A citizen would be able to get around this by revoking their citizenship. And thus be subject to /cityban, and not /citizenwarn.

  • This ability would not be a griefer ability like /citywarn,because only citizens can have this used on them. Thus, the /citywarn + TEF + Turrets/minefields + instant attackat the shuttle thing would be avoided, except for "known citizens" who are "criminals" in the eyes of the town. Regular people coming into a town to shop would be immune to /citizenwarn.

  • If this feature is abused too much against citizens (and citizens revoke their citizenship to avoid it), the result is a citizen loss for a city. Too much of this and a city would pay the consequences in loss-of-citizenry, and thus would go downhill, as intended from the start.

Excellant idea...

I doubt whether the city will go downhill...

You would obviously speak to the city as a whole to hear their views about banning the ignoramus in question.

If there is a majority rule, then it will be implimented. If not, then you diplomatically find a few reasons why he/she should be banned. Come on...we are politicians after all. Looking for a way out is our forte!!

I think citizens would appreciate the fact that they are being looked after, and that annoying wannabes can be dealt with if needed.

I am obviusly speaking of extreme cases...those Mayors that take the /citywarn as a toolto play with will soon lose all their citizens and have no more city.

I think we as Mayors have the most important jobs in SWG, also it takes us forever to get XP. We should have more power over something that we have created and nurtured.

When coming up with ideas you need to really consider the down sides. There is no reprocussions on a mayor if he does wrong in his position like in the real world. If you break the law as a mayor what is going to happen to you? So if a mayor abuses his power and uses a tool given to him such as this to grief then what?

The supposed ability for the citizens to vote out the mayor is the ultimate check against the mayor abusing his/her authority. (I say supposed based on the number of posts we've all see about inactive mayors, and the difficulty people have had in removing them!)

If a mayor is being abusive of their powers, then the citizenry will either leave, or vote them out. I like the /citizenwarn idea. Here's a question... if someone is /citybanned, and they still have a house that is inside the city limits, can they access it? I could see there being "issues" if someone had acted against the city, was /warned, and then /banned after dropping residency, and was unable to get to their house. I suppose with an active militia, you could /pardon the offender, escort them to their house, but then what's to prevent them from redeclaring....

I really like the /citizenwarn though...

Hi all... incumbent and to-be Mayor with a real problem here.

My current, and Official Mayor, character needs to leave the game for certain reasons, and I've been grinding up her replacement to take charge of our city.

Here's the problem. I've had the new character in the running for Mayor for two weeks now, and I haven't managed a majority vote. There are too many people in the city who are either inactive or too lazy to get to the voting terminal.

What can I do?? The original plan was to get a list of those people who WERE voting (I had each of them send a mail to me when they voted) and to kick the rest from town, sending a letter and offering a rejoin if they came back and wanted in.

I can't do that. SWG doesn't allow a city-kick.

Any suggestions? I don't want our city to have to be rebuilt...

The problem with voting a mayor out is it is extremely hard to do. Even if the mayor wants to be voted out. Many cities have inactive citizens but those citizens auto vote for the current mayor. It is a huge undertaking to outvote an incumbent. I know this for a fact because we have done it twice in our city due to mayors leaving the game. One time we had only one active militia to help place enough people to get the votes needed. The point I'm trying to make is think how hard it is to beat a mayor that wants to lose then try to compare it to a nasty mayor who wants to keep his power. He can kick every militia member so no new people can be placed in the city. If he has enough inactive citizens he/she can never lose. So what can citizens do? Nothing except watch the city they helped build die a slow death.

if the mayor hasn't left yet, ask him/her to send out an email to "citizens" and tell them to vote for you, and put some threats in there while you're at it, such as "we all don't want our (insert important civic structure) to poof..." you can't really kick people from town, there's no such option. all you can do otherwise is to introduce more people into your city to bump up the vote count.

If a mayor could simply kick out citizens ... he could kick out everybody not voting for him ... not really the way the system is supposed to work.

Let the present mayor mail all citizens (as Pappi suggested) ... run small events at the city hall so people are activly there ... get non-citizens to temporarly build a house in your city, declare and vote (for a small fee ) - you can easily use cross server trades here - and set up the houses to poof in a week or two.

We need to remember that there are people behind these characters...(holidays, family, emergencies etc) could be the reason they are not online, and this is not a good reason to kick them from your city.

I still feel the /citywarn and militia follow up would be the best course of action as it is democratic, diplomatic & shows your citizens that you care about their interests and concerns. Please remember that we are there toaide them....and they are their to make our cities the greatest in the galaxy. I personally think that is what makes a good Mayor. Without them...you would not be a Mayor.

Regarding the autovote that was mentioned above...i didn't know there was such a command? (being a noob mayor and all).

is it /autovote (name)?....or how does it work?

Tx for all the info....

PS:- I have a few million in the bank (as i am also a Doc)...this week i incentivized my citizens with a cash reward of 50k per citizen they recruit, place & declare (i also incentivized them with 2k faction points for the citizen that recruited the first 5). I need to advance from rank 2 to 3 which means i needed 10 more citizens for it to happen. ByWednesday i had my 10...and there are more joining this weekend. So.....my incentives + good recruiting skills = and influx of new members. I believe that the return on investment more than outways the financial implications.

Use it, Don't use it....but think about it.

What would happen if the incumb. Mayor, who wants to leave the server/game - simply just revoke his citizenship?

I dont think you can be Mayor in a city if you are not a citizen ?

That would leave the char running against the incumb. Mayor with no oppenents.
