Thread: Ideas to set Player Cities Apart from NPC cities: Updated as of 7.14.2005
I was thinking about something that would be pretty cool. What about apartment complexes. Someting along the lines for those newer players who cannot afford to pay for a small house and keep it up for a while. Basically it would be a large structure, maybe the size of a corellia city hall. each apartment building would have a set number of floors depending on the level of your city ( ie level 1 would have maybe 2 floors, and a level 4 would have like 8). on each floor there would be 4 fairly decent sized rooms. It would also have elevators like a pa hall and the renter would have the ability to make their apartment private or public. everyone would have acess to the structure, but only the mayor could allow renting rights. The money for this would come from the rent which the mayor could set and it would go directly into the city's funds at a set time each month. Each room would have a capacity for stuff to like 100 items or so. each renter would be considered one citizen and i think this could help with cities that are starting out. it would be an architecht craftable structure, like 0-0-4-0 on the skill tree. and the level for a city to attain to have one would be level 1 or 2.
Also being a shipwright i would like to see a city structure that could be something like a hanger for us shipwrights to own and run. We would be able to display ships and components. it could be the size of a theater.
I know im not a politician but i thought these were some decent ideas.

City Mall:A large City Structure where the mayor can "rent" by giving admin to little areas of each building to another player. That person can then place vendors and decorate the area. Again a low item limit per room would probably be needed. Also the "rent" for each vendor area could be put right into the city maintence pool as another way to help pay for the city. A thought on this, when the person renting the area creates a vendor to place they get an option to select the genre of the vendor (ie. Armor goods, Weapon goods, Medical goods) and once thevendor isplaceddecorations related to that specific type of vendor are createdaround it. Also the areas in which the person can rent are pre-setup with counters and shelving to create that vendor area feel to it. Also I would think that this building would be required to be multi-floored considering the amount of merchants that could fill it up.
Paved Roads: Something it seems everyone would like to see and would make cities seem like cities and not just a cluster of house that come up out of no where. Not sure if this was ever thought of but maybe the footprint of the houses, when the house is placed, could create a look of being paved that way when two houses are placed one in front of the other it would give a look of being paved. The only problem with this is the numerous areas where the terrain is not even and houses cannot be placed due to crevasses, hills and holes. A fix for this could be when placing any structure the terrain is leveled out such as in the manner when placing a camp.
Casino: This is possbily the best idea to set a player city apart because it could lead to great player interaction but also fun for players on their own. We could have real life games like blackjack, slots, poker etc. and SWG games. The blackjack, poker, and other "card"games could have automated dealers so that one person could play but also larger groups could play. The amount of money allowed to bet should have no limit, one of the current problems with gambling games is the possible payout isn't great enough to get to much participation. This would probably the most complicated addition, but the most appealing one also. This is a very interesting idea and could possibly assist in paying for the city where as a portion of the creds spent playing the games could go into the city funds.
GCW Spec With this specialization every once in a while a spawn of Imperial/RebelNPC's would attack the city. A special type of base could be put under the architect trees that can only be placed under this specialization. With the spec inacted and at least one base placed at least once in a 24 hour period a rather large amount of NPC combatants would attack the bases, all citizens who are on would be notified to help the city. The goal of the NPC's would be to destroy the bases placed in the cities and for the players to stop them. There should be "set" times these attacks would happen... like anywhere between 5pm-10pm. Something I would really like to see with this is the ability to place factional recruiters.
City Garrison: This building would generate some guards that would be around the city. This would be helpful to the noncombatants that might get agroed and run into the town for safety dragging along the agro creature too. The Garrison could be made to use either factional troops or planetary defense forces. The troops would aid any citizen of the city who was under attack. ( I suppose if one citizen was attacking another citizen they might just stand around and do nothing)
Apartment Complex: This is a highrise structure with mulitple levels. Given the Empire's nationalization of many business the Apartment Complex is actually owned by the city. It has a number of rooms ( perhaps 10 ) that can be rented out by the mayor of the city. The rent money would go towards the city treasury. Two rooms per floor with an elevator in middle. The bottom floor would have no rooms, instead it has the hotel lobby. Here someone can leave an item with the Receptionist for someone who lives in the complex. Footprint about the size of the Shuttleport or City Hall. Cities could have more than one. Rent is deducted from the persons bank account. Should they be unable to pay then the Mayor would be notified, he could then issue an eviction notice to the tenant if said fees are not paid up within 30 days. This would allow for far more people per city, and I think add a little flavor.
I like the Ranch idea
.
I'll givea crack at the City Council idea....
First off, there would be two types of government systems put in place: Dictatorship/Monarchy and Democracy/Republic. When a mayor gets elected into office, he/she has the ability to set the government type of the city. A council would be best for larger cities or guild cities, while a monarchy might be good for RP or a smaller city. A Republic gives five council spots, and this replaces Militia members. The council can do everything to the city that a mayor can do, except delete the city hall. The mayor that has been elected would automatically be placed on the council, and then elections would be held for the final four members. If any change in taxes were to come about, there would require a 4/5ths vote. At any time the council members can be replaced, but the mayor must be voted out. Just some thoughts, needs some fleshing out. ![]()
I'd love a Master Merchant building (along the lines of a Cantina or Med Center) to be an auction house. Players could essentially do what they do on the trade forums in this building, bringing the commerce into the game. There would have to be some failsafes put in place, something to protect items up for auction from being deleted if the building was removed.
To expand on the auction house idea since there is a lot of business taking place outside of the game...
What about a City Job Board? It could be a terminal that players could post their needs or services on. Looking for 10k of a certain hide? Post it on the city job board. Need a custom job/order made? Post it on the job board.
I know this idea was brought up on other threads but i think it is a neat idea. A player city starport. First of all these should be highly limited. Add lvl 6 Megatropolis or something like that. A player city would have to achive 100 citizens. I know most player cities do not have the landscape to reach 100 but then again this should be hard to reach. Limit it to two per planet. Now I know they (devs) do not want to see the Npc cities go to waste so my thinking is to have the starport availible to those who are citizens and those who are members of a guild with the hall in the city limits.
This got me to thinking though what would stop people from creating generic guilds just so people would have access to the starport. Maybe give the mayor the power to control guilds access to the starport. That again though could create a whole lot of trouble in it self.
Ok so yes in short a player city starport. My thinking with some sort of limited access.
- City Walls! These would be placed like homes or city structures by a mayor. They would come in, oh say 10m blocks and when placed would prevent people from going through them.
- Guard Towers! These tall structures would allow citizens (or maybe just militia members) in, unless hacked by an outsider. Each towers could provide a +25 city-widedefense bonusfor the cities faction alignment.
- City Swimming Pools! No real functionality except a place for toons to gather and swim. hehe.. just kinda fun.
just some ideas!
City Swimming Pool would be a cool decoration
My cities on the beach but I could see a Swimming Pool....Pool Parties and stuff ![]()
