Thread: Ideas to set Player Cities Apart from NPC cities: Updated as of 7.14.2005

I've thought about a PvP arena too, but I imagine the structure's footprint would be overwhelming in order to give enough space to run around. If you took 4 Theatres, places them in a cross so all their stages are in the center, got rid of the stages and put a flat arena floor, that would work. Stands are already built ![]()
I'd like to see a Ranch option, but not for asthetics. It would be a nice place to for CH's and such to store pets. They could rent a stable that could store X amount of pets from their datapad. Or, and now this is far fetched, the ability to milk animals there like a dairy. If you've ever harvested milk, this would be a god send. Just plop in a creature taht you can normally milk, and have it produce the resource them become consumed. Even a greenhouse would be nice to grow organics. I'm just trying to think "rural" since you wouldn't find these in a major city.
Casinos, yes, BUT only if they spend some time on the gambling games. Not the current text based placebos we have now in the hotels.
Hotels. Please!
An outdoor bazaar area for vendors would be nice. Use the same structure as the large banking/bazaar plaza from the NPC cities and remove the terminals. Not sure how placing of items and vendors would render outdoors though.
Warehouses that are city owned. Large structures capable of holding 100's of items per person for several people. The interface would be like a factory or safety box so no need to render interiors of homes to see items. Weekly rent goes to city treasury. Civic Structure so no player lots needed. Amount of warehouses and capacity should fall in the Politician trees.
More to come I'm sure.. but time to leave work ![]()
Then for melee and pistol duel finals, the city hall has a perfect arena in the middle of it.

all too much programming for the devs to do. You can do some of those ideas by using imagination and combination of furniture. The only thing i feel for as a reality at this point is the mail system, they do it in WoW, why cant they do it here?
some would say the CU would have been to much programming. I think the devs want to do things like the above, maybe not on the full scale, but this is the whole point. Its an optimistic IDEA thread, the mroe ideas we have the more things the devs are going to come up with for us to have fun with and make player cities more valuable and politician a better proff. Aslo what mail system are you talking about, i've never played WoW?
- City Building Ideas:
- PvP Arena:
- This could be like the rome coliseum (someone help me with spelling plz lol). It would have a viewing area where everyone is allowed and a battle area of say.... 50 meters, this would be a large area so maybe something could be figured out. The mayor could give a group of people entry rights for the battle and if you die within the arena you have no negative results for cloning, or even could re-clone in a viewing are of the arean. This might be one of the best ideas for players and could really spark player city participation.
- Some testers say that an area of the top of a generic guild hall would be enough room for the battle arena.
- Post Office:
- A building where citizens get a box which otherplayers can only put items into and the owner can only remove from. There should be a low item limit on each box (possibly ten items?) and maybe a time limit in which the items have to be removed - one week seems to be resonable.
- The city post office could be used by anyone to "instantly ship" an item to another character. There would be a fee.
- City Mall:
- A large City Structure where the mayor can "rent" by giving admin to little areas of each building to another player. That person can then place vendors and decorate the area. Again a low item limit per room would probably be needed. Also the "rent" for each vendor area could be put right into the city maintence pool as another way to help pay for the city. Another option could be to have set decoration choices to choose from when you place a vendor, for example you choose "Weaponsmith" and the are is pre-decorated by the system to limit the amount of items in the building.
- Zoo:
- This could be a building which has caged in rooms/areas which people can place animals and decorate to give the zoo feel. This would also be a great way for CH and BE to showcase all of their collections.
- Ranch:
- This is similar to the zoo idea but instead of a large building, its just a small entrance (maybe the size of a merchant tent) that leads into a fenced in area. It is competly visible from the outside to make the animals look like they are grazing. Decorations would have to be limited to things like plants, Fountains, and Animals.
- Another option would be that CH's could rent out spaces (rent going to the city) and could store their pets. The pets could then be milked a certain number times a day, this would make milk much more available. The milk spawn would be based on the current planet
- Casino:
- This is possbily the best idea to set a player city apart because it could lead to great player interaction but also fun for players on their own. We could have real life games like blackjack, slots, poker etc. and SWG games. The blackjack, poker, and other "card"games could have automated dealers so that one person could play but also larger groups could play. The amount of money allowed to bet should have no limit, one of the current problems with gambling games is the possible payout isn't great enough to get to much participation. This would probably the most complicated addition, but the most appealing one also.
- Hotels:
- People would rent out rooms and would get several perks for doing so. Free shuttle tickets for a 12 hour period. A temporary storage and a "registery" e-mail that would be sent to the mayor and militia (maybe to much e-mail) about the persons purpose for being in the city
- WareHouse:
- A very large building that looks like a factory. This could have rented areas out that could store 100 items each. The rent would go to the city. This would help with individual player storage and also reduce the amount of houses that are around just for storage. The rent would have to be realtivly expensive sense its like a free lot.
- Improved Bank
- This would be an actually building that was operated by an NPC. It would create the real bank feel and set the banking systems between player cities and NPC cities apart.
- Militia HeadQuaters
- This building would have a main room made to look like a court of law. With side rooms fitting for a "police force." This could be where the city enforced its laws and the militia could manage things like banned citizens etc. It should also have a jail area for roleplaying events.
- Auction House
- This would be placed by master merchants. It would be a roleplaying area in which actually auctions could take place, or just act as a more creative vendor area. It should be made to have a great area for displaying of items.
- Apartment Complex
- This rather large building would have smaller rooms that would be rented out to people, most likly newer players who can't afford houses as much. The item limit would be low. Also the building would be based on your city level. At level 1 it would have one floor, level 2 two floors and so on. Rent would go straight into the city maintence
- Generic Building
- A "blank canvas." This would be a wide open building in which a mayor could literally create whatever he/she wants. Options like walls, stages, etc would be avalible. A blank buidling would really allow the mayor to express themself.
- Player City Specific Housing
- New houses that are built by architects but can only be placed in player cities.
- City Decorations
- Outdoor Galaxy Bazaar:
- Functional and would look great, especially with cities like mine with a "Business District"
- Street Signs:
- Actual customized street signs, that allows you to name each "street" that a city creates. This would really give the city feel.
- BillBoards:
- These could be used an city advertisments/announcements. There would be a specific limit on these so it doesn't get rediculous. Also the "background" could be any of the current paintings and then have the writing on top of it. This would give cities a great way to announce player events or even showcase the special things they have in the city.
- Phone Booth:
- No "real" use, but just would be kind of cool to have a couple throughout the cities.
- Perhaps could be used to open up chat windows where you invite certain people to enter.
- Paved Roads:
- Something it seems everyone would like to see and would make cities seem like cities and not just a cluster of house that come up out of no where. These could be added to part of the house design, when they are placed a road is put infront of it, two houses put close together would then connect the road. The "road" option would only be avalible within city limits.
- City News Terminals:
- Terminals similiar to the holonet ones could be placed in which people who the mayor grant permission can write articles for. These articles can then be viewed by all.
- City Job terminals:
- Players would be able to put a job on the board, like "Looking to buy 10k Hide." This would really help out the newer players to make money by using these terminals and also everyone around.
- Swimming Pools
- Just a cool idea for pool parties and role playing
. - Guard Towers
- These could be used for just decoration or used to help protect the city under the GCW specialization idea below.
- Fractional Decorations
- Explains itself i think.... flags etc.
- City Ponds
- Explains itself pretty much, could have a high fish density.
- "Registry"
- This terminal would allow for the mayor to state the purpose of the city, for example... role playing, support the guild of whomever.
- City "JukeBox"
- Allow to play music chosen by the mayor every time you enter the city.
- Fishing Piers
- For those cities which have lakes
. (i'll add your name later who came up with this).
.
- Specializations
- GCW Spec
- With this specialization every once in a while a spawn of Imperial/RebelNPC's would attack the city. A special type of base could be put under the architect trees that can only be placed under this specialization. With the spec inacted and at least one base placed at least once in a 24 hour period a rather large amount of NPC combatants would attack the bases, all citizens who are on would be notified to help the city. The goal of the NPC's would be to destroy the bases placed in the cities and for the players to stop them. There should be "set" times these attacks would happen... like anywhere between 5pm-10pm.
- Paying for the City
- Adopt a garden:
- Allow a mayor to assign a garden/decoration to a player (with the permission of the player) and they will pay the maintence for the structure. This would all create a specific feeling of a player having a "part" of the city.
- City Council Ideas
- Governmental Types:
- This is just a brainstorming idea to get our thoughts going to get some really good ideas here. You could have a dictatorship or a democracy. A dictatorship would be rule without voting by whoever places the city. A democracy would have not only the mayor but a city council elected by the people. Also in order to change the taxes you would need to hold a city vote, etc.
Please Post Your ideas here and i'll keep adding them to the list in an organized fasion, I hope this really gets a lot of great ideas that we get so see in the near future.
P.S. If i don't update your ideas to the list (if they are decent lol) within two days, please send me a PM

I have enjoyed all of your ideas and might be using a few of them.
p.s.
I am a first time mayor. A few months ago our city was left for dead by a previous mayor. About 2 months ago we began the long process of starting our city over. With no xp and very little money we have salvaged our beloved town to a lvl 4 and today just got our shuttle!! If you are on Kettemoor and on Tatooine stop by Beggers Canyon and say hi. Sorry I am just giddy

The WoW email works like this:
In each city there is a mail box. With these mailboxes a player can email another and put an item in the mail. It usually takes about a day to get through to the other person. If they arent checked within 30 days I believe that the item gets sent back( dont qoute me on this). There is a fee attached to sending out an email with either just writing or an item. It is 30 copper there which probaly would be like 100-200 creds here. its a pretty simple thing that would work nicely with SWG i think.
(This is coming from the mouth of a citizen, not a mayor.) Something I have always wanted to see is an actual bank, like an actual building you walk right into and depositor retreive money from an NPC banker. And when you place a bank building in a city, as a mayor you can go there to see your city funds, guild funds, taxes, blah blah blah money stuff
. Anyways, it's just something I would like to see someday...and could possibly be robbed by an enemy guild, only themaster smugglers can do that thoughlol. That would be hilarious. Next thing you'll know they'll be setting mines in banks
FYI: I just thought this up about 5 minutes ago so please don't flame me for being idiotic, I try to throw out ideas to make SWG amore fun environment for you and me. Thank you.
