Thread: Politicians and Player Cities: Ideas for involvement in factions

More controversially, it may make sense to look at:

- "Declared" cities offer some sort of faction benefit in the general area. Reduced base maintenance? Smaller faction point loss for dying while defending the city?

- Garrisons. Give overt defenders of rank the ability to check soldiers out of a city garrison. Soldiers can't leave the city limits or be out for more than a certain period of time. This would be a possible solution for the ease of raiding a city with few defenders present at the time the raid is brought. As a result ...

- Faction perks of city can be nullified for a period of time if the city is "pacified"/"liberated" by the opposing faction. City hall terminals?

- Some sort of "scoring" system. There doesn't need to be any real perks or penalties - people won't want their side to be losing ground on a given planet, that will provide significant motivation by itself.

Qabalah,

Relax. Try to breathe.

Now, it's important to understand that Dev attention is a scarce resource. Is that ideal? No. However, it is reality. Given that it is reality, it is important to adapt to it. Simply castigating the correspondent/community relations/developers is never going to fix that problem. It's perfectly OK to blow off a little steam now and then - and no doubt this is what's going on - but even if you can't be positive about it (and one confesses, its hard to find positives in some of this) you should at least strive to treat it as a disappointing fact rather than as a failure of particular individuals or small groups.

The extremely slow response time from the community relations area is not unique to this profession. It's not even unique to this game. Frustrating though it may be, it is clear that between the development cycle and personnel stretched too thin that only game-breakingissues can be treated with priority. What we can hope for is to raise enough attention (by repeated requests for the same thing) with the people who really matter so that they fix the problem just so they don't have to deal with us anymore.

Mayors with the Warmaster rank should be able to control a limited amount of factional troops for town defense.

Some of the Devs are from the game Ultima Online.... I remember several luncheon that are hosted in Austin where we actually talk DIRECTLY to the devs and give and get ideas.... some ideas get leaks out and people accept as "coming soon" many games Devs are getting very cautious on what to release... best not to release or say anything at all since players would think... it is coming.. yay!!! and when it doesn't come... players slam them saying.. "the devs said this.. the devs said that.... " you get the idea...

So we have to hit the right button to get the answer.... our correspondent is trying just that.. Like garages. we finally got info on that that is coming out.. but not yet.. HOW are we getting them.. metro? township? master politician?? they are still in the work and of course best "tweak" thus nothing release yet....

It is almost a wrestling game and we are the 98 lb weakling trying to hit a 300 muscle bound pro-wrestler weak spot to have that person give up.. (in this case give in some info)

If we ask for stuff that they are "thinking about" but not "even publish" they won't tell us at all

1) "Background Check" (somewhere in the Faction tree) Maybe as a city specialization called "Intelligence Network"?

  • Militia run a 'Background Check' on a person to discern their faction??

  • Player gets informed that a 'background check' is being run on them and their faction will be exposed in 2-3 minutes unless they leave town.

  • Smugglers get avoidance check?

  • Not necessarily turned overt but maybe TEF'd?

2) Faction Recruiter? Place an Imperial Draft Office or Rebel Informant in the back of the Cantina?

3) Stronghold Specializationgive bonus to overt members of a specific faction? (so you don't have to put everyone in militia)

I like these ideas a lot!

Fantastic initiative, Baz!

I like the ideas already here, so I'm not goingto add anything other my voice of support - keep up the good work and just ignore the Trolls - we have to do this as well as working with them to get our top five issues addressed.

- NPCs of the appropriate faction should spawn and wander the cities.

- Logistical Office/Officer/Vendor. This would be a building/npc/vendor with whom we could sell equipment for faction points. The faction points would then be collected in a pool that the Mayor could use to purchase faction perks, for its citizens and City. The equipment would be supplied by the players. Lets us set our own faction perks!

- Recruitment/Ordnance/Logistical Facilities. These factories/facilities would produce better equipped faction pets. We could use, say a crate of 25 laser rifles, to obtain laser rifle equipped troopers. Same with armor.

- Factories in player cities should be the source of heavy equipment such as AT-STs, Star fighters. These could then be delivered to our faction through a faction recruiter. In this way, the amount of heavy gear is supplemented by players.

Ultimately, cities are important to warfare because it is there that the weapons are created. Good generals study tactics, superb general study logistics!

This proposal not only gets cities and politicians involved in the GCW, but also all crafters. I guess we could also have missions/quest to deliver x amount of Y items to your faction. Say an order of K-Rations, Laser Rifles, specific resources in large amounts, grenades etc.

The key here is that the items delivered MUST impact the level of gear available to Faction NPCs/Pets through-out the galaxy. This determination must be made on a per galaxy basis as well. For example, if the Imperials on Bria don't bother making any AT-STs, the cost/availability of them from a faction recruiter should be impacted.

- Banners

- Wandering NPCs. The GCW is alive and well in the player cities that allow "easy low risk" farming. Create more reasons for the enemy to attack a Player City by farming its militias.

- I recommend you ask the GCW Correspondent as well. I'm sure he has ideas he's wanted to see come to fruition.

Thanks for asking us, btw.

I understand and relate to many of the frustrations being voiced here.I would encourage everyone reading this to consider that challenging our correspondant (who is doing the best job possible) and voicing our disapproval of the level of attention we have received from the developers will do us all very little good. The developers could do more to at least answer us, I agree, but I would suggest that fact does not mean that we should abandon the work of bringing fresh ideas to them. It may all be pie-in-the-sky, but at least we would be upholding our commitment to helping to make our profession a more enjoyable one.

Just my two cents.

My suggestion is that the devs implement the ability to declare a city faction aligned, which enables a faction scanning system within the radius of the current city limits. This scanner would send an automated message to a list of players (which would be able to be created and modified by the mayor) stating that overt members of the opposing faction have entered the city limits. It would not scan for coverts, but it would provide a means of detecting a hostile force entering city limits. This would serve as an excellent warning system and allow the players designated by the mayor to organize resistance if required. I believe that the system would not be overly difficult to implement, though my knowledge of the workings of something as complex as Galaxies is limited.

Hang on, we get told by Bajeezus that the Devs time is sparse at best, and that they are concentrating on other things, and then we get asked to forward suggestions about involving factions in Player Cities! So what is it to be? They are too busy to fix all the problems and issues that quite a few of us having been asking about since PC was released - but they have time to consider additional content?

I'm all for additional content involving player cities, but all some of us are asking is to fix the broken stuff first, and then we can get onto the fun stuff. Its happened with every other profession, why should Politican be any different?

And to Bajeezus, the reason that declaring a city part of faction just missed the top 5, is that the Top 5 was deemed to be more important!!! So are weditching the Top 5 and going with 6 and downwards - because hey, what's moreimportant to SOE,fixing problems and addressing issues or adding "fun stuff"?

Or we are brainstorming ideas during a lull in the forum so as to provide ideas of new content the second it is asked for. You could call it busywork for us to get the ideas teeming in here (remember during and after the top 5 initiated? I couldn't refresh fast enough to keep up with you all) as well as just telling them some interesting things that we want. The space expansion is going to have to have some things so the developers dedicated to that could add this as part of the expansion over a large patch. So now they know what we want. It could just be a reference link lining a page somewhere in the offices. It could just be a way for Baj to pull our strings and make us dance a jig so he can sit back and laugh at us. No matter which it is why dump on a good thing?

Why question why we are asked to actually think and exchange ideas once more when we can finally have an article of interest on the page. All I see now are noob questions and complaints, and that's it. Well if I wanted that I could just spend more time on the Rifleman boards and aid in beating back the nerfherders with a stick.
