After glancing over this thead, I feel for you. Having kept the city functioning and then losing it after gaining office would kill me. I hope that things settle down for you group and you can get back to a sence of normalcy.

Pappi,

The idea of a city wide e-mail when the treasury hits zero is not a bad idea. I hadn't thought about it but that would be a very helpful idea for those that have AWOL Mayor's and are trying to get things back together. While I don't really see it as a griefing issue, I can see the upset it would cause.

As for the ability to donate to the city, that ought to be a Friday Feature or something. We've had a few people quit that are in the city and in the outskirts. You would not believe how many think you have to be part of the city to donate or think only the mayor can use the Terminal.

if it makes you feel better, there's now a new guild system in place. you can probably read the details in the guild forum, but if a guild leader doesn't log on for a certain amount of time people can vote someone else in as leader

I have taken daily visits to the PA forum since our guild broke 2 weeks ago. Its a known problem and it seems its been unfixed for 2 months.

In the case where a guild lost its leader by some reason, the guild terminal is frozen stiff. No further commands are accepted.

This includes inviting and electing a new (or old) guildleader.

Actually this same situation happened to someone on Tempest a while back. Their ingame solution was to plant a PA. Since they were a member of the guild the GUILD terminal in their PA acted just as good as the old one. Then they did the "no confidence" vote and elected a new guild leader.

Just a thought.

I think a city wide email when the treasury is too low to meet the city expenditures is an excellent idea. That would alert citizens the first week it happened that something was wrong. I think you have 4 weeks of no maintenance going to the city hall before it goes away. An email the first week would allow people to register someone to run against the mayor and also to put money into the treasury to make sure there wasn't another shortfall.

actually, I think a weekly email that does the following would be great, so they mayor doesn't have to do it:

1. Shows how much was paid in maintanance in total and broken down to each city structure

2. Shows how much $$$ is in the treasury

3. Shows how much $$$ was made in taxes, broken down by each category

4. Shows how much was made in donations - just the amount not who made them

This way the citizens are always informed about the city and understand when the mayor raises taxes or begs for donations all the time because they are tired of funding the city from their own pocket book.

And for the new/old politicians alike, I highly suggest you get the excel file that helps out with budgeting the city, so you can tell how much you need in taxes etc etc. its very helpful.

Solution to keep this from happening again is city taxes. If you have the lions' share of your city expenses covered from taxes, this cannot happen.

Again another real case of why relying on donations is inheirently an unstable way to run a city.
