Thread: Why Can't we place Bazaars?

Those who do not remember history are doomed to repeat it..

Does anybody remember the Keren bazaar back before it was named properly? It was some swamp. (Forget the name, but I'd know it if I saw it.) Well they fixed it.. And suddenly you had items on the bazaar that couldn't be accessed.

Well in a player city this is a very real possibility. People could lose money because a city fell below the point it can have a bazaar and the bazaar poofed, or even was picked up, or the city destroyed, or any number of things.

If there was a delivery service.. Say 20 credits for same planet, 100 credits for interplanet deliveries... That would take care of the problem. However there are other design criteria to be considered, and in the grand scheme of things, there are alternatives (Vendors or bazaars in other cities) that this is probably a very low priority.

I know Keren was fixed. I was using that as an illustration of what one of the problems could be. They also seem to reference locations by name - I say this because I have a ticket from Bestine Starport to Theed. I can't use it, because now it is called Theed Starport not Theed. So the issues they deal with could be as simple as renaming your city could cause everyone to lose their items in your bazaar. Redeeding/picking upwhatever holds the bazaar terminals would result in everyone losing their items. Destroying the city couldcause everyone to lose their items. The city shrinking below minimum size required to be able to hold a bazaar would cause everyone to lose their items. See where I'm going from here?

I'd at least like to see a BAZAAR VIEWER at player city banks.

People may be right that there may be problems SELLING from the bazaar in player cities, but I don't see any balance issue by letting us browse/buy from them.

For instance, if I'm looking for a certain metal, it would be much nicer to be able to view the galaxy-wide bazaar listings, and see if what I want is available anywhere before I head out. If it's on-planet it would even save a trip - instead of taking a shuttle to one city just to view the bazaar, and then another to the city the item is available in, you could go directly to the item's pickup location.

Player cities need to have some bazaar functionality if we truly want to make them centers of commerce.

Good point. A lot less stress on their servers that way, and much less potential problems, since it's just queries.

I'd love to have a bazaar as well. It encourages travel to the city for pickups, as well as gives a handy selling point for new players. I wouldmake it so that it could not be picked up/redeeded as long as there are active sales items on it. allow the Mayor to turn off posting items, but do not allow the terminal to be removed until every item has been sold and/or taken off.

Bazaars would be nice, but you guys don't realize the complexity behind them. A bazaar creates a whole new network area for goods to be sold on. This network is then accessed by other bazaars around the galaxy so that they can search the entire system for items. Trying to implement player city bazaars would mean that every time a mayor places one, it would somehow have to create an entirely new network in that area, to interact with 9 other possible new networks on the same planet. Not to mention, if he wants to move it and create more elsewhere in his city, they have to merge with the same network. There seems to be no easy way to make this a simple process that any mayor can simply place. Thats my 2 cents

I like the idea of just having a Bazaar Viewer, so you can see what city you need to go to, even if you can't place items on it...placing items would be better, for the non-merchants though.

Since you're doing the same two jobs as me (Merchant and Mayor) you do know that players can offer items at your vendors? Create one called "Bazaar" or "General Goods" or whatever. Have players offer stuff for what they want to make, buy the stuff and mark it up 10-20% and resell. They get 30 days for it to move rather than 7.

Yes, I do this all the time...

Problem solved.

I have implemented this as a test program on one vendor in my city, the Pharmacy vendor in the Med Center. Unfortunatley it has been way to time consuming for me. Plus, the only people who want to take advantage of it want to sell like 70 uncrated stim A's or something like that.

Plus, you end up hurting the fealings of citizens if you do not accept all their offers, and quite frankly not every item is going to sell, so I end up losing money (not a big deal, but not great either).

Bazaar terminals are a linked system and, although it has flaws, I whole-heartedly agree that player cities should have them.

The best creative use of a Merchant Tent and a Vendor is the "City Welcome Center" I have created just in front of the shuttle port. You can find a listening of all the local points of interest, some resource waypoints, upcoming events, city rules, how to become a citizen etc. etc.

I think a bazaar would be nice for 2 reasons

1. bazaars are really meant for selling junk. There's not much good stuff out there that you can buy for less than 3k. But for those of us that are grinding up our latest tree, needing tons of low-quality resources, they're perfect.

2. Since you have to travel to the location to pick your items up, this would be a great tool for tourism to your city

Actually it's likely just one large database they keep of items on the various bazaars, with different flags to differentiate locations. Wouldn't be much different than if they added more bazaar terminals to other locations, like POI's for instance. Not sure if SOE keeps separate DB's for the various city bazaar terminals. Any DBA's out there know? I'm just taking an educated guess here.

A bazaar would be something nice to have around town. Might be somehting they could throw in with banks. Or something diffrent all together.
