Ok I am the opposing canadite for Mayor. I have dontated half of the maintence each week while the current mayor has not contributed since the begining. I do not consider this a take over when I emailed her informing her I was actively campaigning against her. I spent the entire week writing down the names of each citizen and emailing them a campaign letter that consisted of my ideas and what I would do if I was mayor. I also stood in front of the shuttle and city hall and spoke with citizens. The current mayor should be aware that every week there is an election and every week somone has the opportunity to run against them. There is also the chance they might win if the current citizens go in and change their vote from the current mayor to the challenger. This is the game mechanics. A week after my email, the current mayor finally logged on and was not happy that I was winning. This is when she threatened that either I drop out of the race or she was going to destroy it. Now I should not have to choose between keeping the current structure....ones btw she did not pay for....and doing what the majority of the citizens want which is to see her out of office.

let me see what I can do? no promises, but I'll forward it to someone that might be able to help if you wanna give me your city info.

First of all...that isn't griefing...

Actually it is and has been proven to be grief in the past (this isn't the first time it's happened).

Griefing is harming other people's gaming experience intentionally.

This case is very clearly proventhrough the email threat (the contents of the ultimatum email should be included in the help ticket).

I would/report the mayorand ask other citizens to do the same.

Be prepared: Have the new mayor (with nov politician) and a city hall deed

Read the following thread that occured in January of this year as posted by Thraken.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Politician&message.id=22487&highlight=#M22487

same thing:

-mayor being voted out

-mayor maxes taxes

-mayor threatens to destroy city if citizens don't follow along

-CSR intervened and the election was allowed to proceed (I believe the hostile mayor received a temporary suspension)

Good luck and I'm sorry this occured. You have my support.

I paid for everything in this city. She whined about wanting to be mayor before the city hall was place so I let her. Then she never gets on or adds anyone to the city to keep it from dropping to rank 4. All the maint has been paid by me. All the structures including player houses have been bought by me. She logs on once a week to check if she has enough xp to level and logs off if she doen't. If she does then she logs after she gets trained.

If she wants to stay mayor she should try to get peoples votes. If you look in the customer service notes it says that if you do not like the way the current mayor is doing things you can vote for a new mayor and that is all we are doing. It says nothing about how the mayor can up and destroy the city if she thinks she is gonna be put out of office. She can bring in new citizens and have them vote for her.

Just checked and within the last 4 hours all the structures have been turned off. They show up on the structure report but are no longer on the maint. report. Our weekly maint. has dropped from 340k to 264k. Looks as though she plans on carrying out her threat. I think she is trying to send us a message that she will finish off the city if the other mayor doesn't drop from the race.

Wow, sounds like this Mayor of yours needs a good swift kick in the head. At least i'm sure you've learned not to just let anyone pick up this much needed skill for a Player City to flourish. I was in my guild for over 2 months before they even considered handing me over the city that they worked so hard on for a year. Now we have one of the best Imperial cities on Gorath. Good Luck with gettin pshyco chick outta office!

Wow....

Good luck to you and your city - starting over at Rank 1 will be tough.

My advice is to make sure that you have a city plan to move a lot of your citizens into the 150m range of city hall, to be enacted if she really does destroy your City Hall and you have to replace. That way you can at least try to get your ranks back in a few weeks.

I hope you're not on a capped planet though...*crosses fingers*

Again, good luck.

PS: How do you turn a structure "off"? I've never seen that option.

She removed the customization and started the process to re-deed the structures. I belive it is an option on the city mangement terminal but don't quote me on that.

not sure I understood all that. You mean she went to the structures themselves and said "destroy structure" in the menu? Cuz you don't need to do anything else to redeed structures.

I'll check the city management terminals when I get home. I really didn't think there was an option, but I've only been an actualMayor for 5 weeks now, so there may be things I'm missing.....?

First off, cities do not belong to the mayor (this has been debated many times on the board). Cities belong to the citizens. Paying for them does not make them yours. The moment you place them, they are part of the city and 'belong' to the community. The mayor is just the city manager.

If someone runs against you, and you choose to redeed city structures or change city services... that's fine! A mayor could add services in an effort to campaign for reelection as well.

Griefing comes in when a mayor says "Do this or else". When the mayor uses the power to destroy as threat and control mechanism againstthe citizens. Attempts to prevent citizens from voting (through threats or placing objects over the voting booth etc) is griefing.

Many people feel that destroying city hall should not be an instanteous power of the mayor (myself included). Destroying the city hall should require a vote of the active citizens or at least have a delay of some typewhere it's reversable.
