I use Tiaga's tool, and then save that out to a GIF file. Then I overlay this onto a blank map, which I've used to delineate the "streets" on, to help with block planning. I've been meaning to add names, but the clutter on the screen would be too much I think.

Map of Arroyo, Dantooine (FarStar Server): http://members.aol.com/ethalsar/arroyo-fra.htm
Just about finished work on this - was looking for a bit of interactivity, some bells and whistles, and a way to avoid the huge maps one usually ends up with...
I did this in PSP7, with a whole bunch of layers. I've avoided doing any more terrain than simple free-hand water features, just can't figure out an easy way of doing this. Read that Tiaga's stickied post that there are some pointers in her cartography tutorial, will have a look at this when I get home (bloody IE5.5 at work... I mean really, a university with 25,000 students, 10,000 staff & student workstations and no-one's bothered to upgrade the browser we're all forced to use??? GRRRR!).
Had a lot of fun doing this - I knew some elementary HTML, CSS and scripting (to the level of how to make alert boxes!), but getting this right was a steep learning curve. Now know more about the DOM than I thought I'd ever need to know... getting the two frames to interact was a right pain in the RRRRR.
The one thing I really want to re-do is the text - the whole thing was scaled down, of course, and some of the text has really suffered, especially the 'plot numbers' layer. The other option is to redo the whole map from the top, starting with taking screenies of the overhead maps when fully zoomed out (always use a zoom two 'notches' in from that). But I truly can't be RRRRRed to do that, this took long enough as it was. Not to mention that half-way through the project the mayor went and did a MAJOR city re-design on me!
This map is out of date... but for the most part the city is the same, only fuller... much more empties are filled. Infact our city is almost full
It's in Valley of the Wind on Tatooine... kind of small area, but very great location.
City of Rage
I like how you did the different sections of your city clickable. I'm gonna do that.
Thanks for the idea ![]()
Williams it's just <A Href=url>Whatever you want it to say (I use clicky a lot) </A>
Then you have to click edit as HTML right to the right of submit post before you actually submit it.
As for my town, well we need to move to get more growing space off the bat but still encorporate most of the beautiful and unique landscape that we placed originally for. I have a few ideas though and haven't seen any of them in your guys' so far so hah, I'm unique. Yay me
Being an Architecture major is starting to pay off.
