no it is fair.....i made my map so that the minnum # of citizins are in the correct "circle" for the lvl's.so....no cascading or "dommino" effect....and thies positions are static.you cant move them.....my entire city has a rule to treat houses as if they cant be placed back in your pocket.and it will save us from this.....

and another note...belive me i know that people have real lives....i also know that people have friends....there isnt one persion in my city that dosnt know another persion IRL....and thuss able to log on for there friend....

i can gariontee that most of the people posting on this issue are worried about there cross server people......and every thing they have to back up why this isnt fair if "there out of town" etc....its amazing on how many people are sudnly "away" or "shiped out" sence they announced this.....

so im sorry.....screening new people to your city is key to preventing this....also carefull planning of your city....to prevent this "cascade" effect.....

and yes.....there is always the chance that your city will still fall......so is the life of citys.

You need to keep your city growing - if it doesn't grow, it will die - simple as that!

Okay i really dont want this to devolve into an argument but i think understanding is always the way forward so ill try to explain my position a little more clearly and perhaps answer some of your views with another way of looking at it for you ...perhaps there are things you havent considered and if i can help then i will

1-I too have made my second cities layout so that the minimum number of houses are in the correct circle thus allowing for further houses to be planted should the 6 week timer leave me with a number of non resident houses eating real estate, further having a "rule" like that is all well and good but should someone's real life intervene in some unforseen fashion then no amount of treating houses in the manner you suggest is going to save you (though to be fair im talking about a pretty bad case scenario)

2-it is against the eula to give any of your account details to anyone else even a family member you can have your account banned for doing this.

3-you cannot guarantee anything of the sort, you do not know me nor do you know many of the other posters personally, it is only fair for you to consider that there may be situations that you have not thought of, it is also fair to consider that generalising in that fashion is akin to racism in its like saying "all white people are thugs" or "all indian people are taxi drivers" its an unfair assumption based on an inability to put yourself in someone elses shoes when considering their opinions. - That said, i have to admit i too had a chuckle at the amount of mayors who suddenly had service personell called to war in RL BUT this does NOT mean that everyone who is concerned about the timer is using cross server residents, and if i may be so bold i would suggest you take a closer look as many of us actually agree with the 6 week timer but we feel that it should have some other rule in place to stop the non residents eating up real estate like one particularly good suggestion i heard which is perhaps you should only be able to pay up maintenance on a structure to a maximum of 6 weeks.

4-again you can screen people all you like but it still doesnt change the fact that in life stuff happens even the most ardent follower of a game like SWG can become bored or have some RL crisis that gets in the way, this must be considered as all viewpoints must in order for us to go forwards and discover new solutions together because as founding mayor of a very successful city on tatooine on bria (mos elsewhere) which had absolutly no cross server citizens whatsoever i know full well that there is a constant weekly rotation of citizens and i also experienced some citizens that left after transfering their houses to cross server mules so that they could hold more harvesters for example, its all very well saying ban them but you cannot police 24/7, you simply should not make too many militia who could abuse the position to police the city looking for the lot abusers its just not practical and lets face it if someone wants to grief you then this is a damn good way of doing it.

5-finally, you are right of course there is still a chance of the city falling as a result of eventual non resident real estate overcrowding which is the crux of this duscussion because it simply does not need to be that way there are other options which we should be using our energy looking for and suggesting to the developers rather than arguing amongs ourselves and admonishing each other for not planning correctly in order to avoid the effects of what are lets face it now pretty unfair rules.

thanks for reading

The point is still this...

There are so many things wrong with player cities now as is...Shuttle port bugs, clone center bugs, militia still screwed up... City Hall terminals are STILL pushing city updates farther and farther into the future each week (we first updated on a Friday and now it's Tuesday!) etc. and the politician tree isSTILL gimped ... yet the devs insist on making our game lives even more miserable rather than focusing on fixing the important things

WTH? Did they just wake up one morning and say:

"Ok dev team what can we do to lose more money for SOE this week? I KNOW! lets mess with player cities some more! You know all those folks in player cities who don't really play much anymore because the game has so many bugs? wellI have this terrific idea! Lets punish the politicians and player cities for those absentee folks and make them work harder than they already do for little reward!" *the dev room fills with people clapping*

Akasha, with all due respect i find it hard to believe that the devs are deliberatly ignoring anyone, i think its probably a case of so much to do and not enough devs and thats business at the end of the day they have a bottom line to think about and if they dont consider that bottom line then they wouldnt be around at all so im not going to knock them for that.

i also think that politician is a very new class and many other classes are at the top of the priority list for now which is probably fair enough, however we do represent the majority of players in the game ...in a sense but if we are realistic about it then lets face it most of our citizens are content to let us post here and not really get invoved themselves and the devs will do this by the numbers and the simple hard fact of the matter is that next to none of our residents bother to post here if we are to get more developer attention then we need to get our citizens to come here and make there feelings known its the only way i think.

my main concern is that im not sure the 6 week timer was particularly well thought out and i think we need to get some dev attention not because i feel we are a more important class but because of the far reaching impolications of issues that can affect everyone who lives in a player city and the fact that we are now on a time limit in essence which none of the other classes are.

no arugment here....

i just dont think its a sevear as you make it sound.....evey single home in my city was placed and pad for by me....thaey are proprity of the city...the player need only pay the "rent" and upkeep of the house...and all have been told that if for any reasion they canot play or wont be playing to surender there home back to me or one of my "zoners".yes your talking worse case here....and i am still correct that about 80% of thies posts are by mayors of "gost towns".

Do we need the ability to move/reclame/destroy houses...yes...will we ever get it?...nope...to many "greefing" synerios...kinda like /citywarn....this game is is geered tword the "winers"...it has no balls...no true powers for politions...in fact we arnt politions....according to our skill boxes we are simple civil servents...(being a polition is ALOT difrent than just having skill boxes...)

the implmentation of player citys in this game was/is flawed from its "idea" stage....we should be jousting for mayorship of the "NPC" citys...thats where politcs are...the strugle for power and the "politcs"

players should be living in thoes citys....player housing should have been reserved for suburb growth...or thoes that simply dont want to be in a city....but thats beside the point.......

about my comment being racest.....your joking right?im sorry you took it that way....and i have walked in thoes shoes...i lerned what to do and not to do with my first city....thuss the "rules" were devloped....

anothinr thing to offset this problem...arnt we building communitys? shouldnt that be #1 when making a city? its my #1...if you have a strong community rather than a city of people that dont know eachother.....this also make this less of an issue....

2-it is against the eula to give any of your account details to anyone else even a family member you can have your account banned for doing this.

That dosnt stop people from doing ALOT of things does it.......

all i was trying to point out,was that most of the people have other friends that they play with IRL....close friends...fellow gamers....im prity shure...if such a sinero did arise, that somone friend loging in as them is not that big of a problem....

you simply should not make too many militia who could abuse the position to police the city looking for the lot abusers its just not practical and lets face it if someone wants to grief you then this is a damn good way of doing it.

thats why trust and screnning is importaint....my milita are comprised of people that have my full support.....i have hunted with them..grouped...and chatted on or forums with them...in a digital sence...i know them...i do not add willy nilly to my milita....im not that stupid as to put somone with no commone scence or maturity in a place of power....the milita are an extintion of the mayor and reflect directly on him/her.....also...there are only a slect few on the milita that are alowed to grant rights....yes they all have the power...but there are only a slect ones that are alowed to use it.

iknow full well that there is a constant weekly rotation of citizens

Thats how a city breathes

Thanks for reading

no problem....

i enjoy the conversation...

I don't think there is anything wrong with the mechanics (this post was originally before the city implementation)

Just a warning to be careful about moving citizens to the outer ring... (we cleared some interior areas for our shuttle since our founding)

To the best of my knowledge, there is no such thing as a cascade failure for a city. You can't lose more than 1 rank/week, just like you can't gain more than 1/week
