Tell me, Devs, just how long have you been pissing in the fountain of truth? There have been countless opportunities for you to tell us about this cap, not the least of which was during Q-3PO's post about "where will you place your player city?". It is pretty self evident that you have been conning us about this for quite some time. I, along with many, consider this a game-buster, not justbecause you are capping player cities at 10, though thats pretty bad. Its because you have now destroyed ALL TRUST that we may have ever had in you. Do you honestly think that any player will trust anything you say ever again after this? I know that I don't have it in me to believe you. You have just alienated a huge part of your player base. Congratulations.

Yeah, not just conning us, but potentially committing fraud. Here is what they said:

"One upcoming feature under development in the Star Wars Galaxies secret design lab is the Player City system. Under this system, players who build houses and other structures near each other can incorporate them into a city through a city hall."

But with the caps a group of players cannot do this one that cap is reached... This isn't a world space limitation, it is an artificial limitation imposed supposedly based on database resource limitations. But regardless of why it is imposed, it artificially bars a group of players who would otherwise be able to build a player city from building one. So that above statement is knowingly false...

Come on people. There is only so much room on the planet for cities.

Anyone with sense knew there would be a cap on the number of cities. Granted I did not think it would be as low as 10 cities on the starting world. But...oh well.

All you crafters...if there are cities covering the surface of every planet. Where the hell are we supposed to place our harvesters?

Cant place your City Hall for yourPA of 20 people? Then join a Player City that was founded buy another PA. Tis that simple....really it is.

Of course they are limited, last thing this game needs is 100 shuttle ports on a planet, what a joke that would be. I think 25 is way too many actually.

'Shuttle Ports' are supposed to be like 'Train Stops' in our world... It's public transportation... and there's easily 100+ of these 'shuttle ports' in and around the city of chicago, let alone the whole planet.

Dude, there allready was an limitation in place as city halls had to be 1000m away from eachother. This new limit is ON TOP of that, and uncalled for as it will only allow the powergamers/lucky to run cities.

What difference is it if they are cities or just buildings? There is already a cap on the number of characters in a galaxy, and the number of 'lots' each player can take up, thus creating a limit on the number of structures, or land space, that can be taken up. Allowing us to place different structures doesn't increase the amount of 'land' we can cover up...

On Lowca, Rori is dead dead dead. (which means rarely any lag too...so i guess that is a plus). Personally, I'd welcome maybe having reasons to go to Rori. Maybe now with some cities and people on it, its resources will be surveyed and sampled more.

Did you guys see the maps that were shown of the various planets and the player structures? Corellia was pretty full (granted that was across all servers).

I'll repeat this one more time for the folk are who saying "just join another city if you don't get one"

The founding Mayor of the city will have fromthe instant of city creation the ability to prevent ANYONE from building ANY structure within the city radius.

In short, Wally Dickcheese and his 5 friends can form a city, lock it down and laugh all the way to the bank.

Competion? Maybe, IF they revert /granzoningrights back to cantinas and hospitals, not all structures.

DarthNiphty,

I'm glad you will ba able to "Get over it".

Personally, I will be getting over it in another game if this screws up the city i have been working on for countless hours over the last month or so. I don't imagine all the people who already moved there will be thrilled either. This isnt a PA City.. its a collection of good people (guilded and non-guilded) who were all excited to try and found the best city on the planet.

I mst have missed it where the Devs said this was supposed to be a competition. I could have sworn they wanted people to co-operate (which this will defeat completely), and to have fun (which this wont be for 90% or more).

This is NOT a database issue.... and anyone who has worked as a DBA knows it. The data required for player cities is a tiny drop in the ocean compared to the other data used in this game.

This is a design descision plain and simple... and I am disgusted that they would spring this at the last moment, after letting everyone prepare for weeks and months.

Take a look at 99% of the half-assed "Cties" (and I use the term VERY loosly) out there. Most are just a jumble of structures thrown down in an area. The city we have build was carefully designed and layed out. I have detailed maps of every square meter of it. This land rush is more likely to cause all 10 cities to be within 2 km of Theed than it is to do anything else.

Player cities were supposed to be one of the draws of this game... good luck SOE using the mess this will cause as any sort of incentive for people to play.

25 cities on Lok and Dantooine??

Well, the hell with the nice "special and dangerous" planets... now there will be cities everywhere!

Can't think of how the HOLO-city will be on Dant... bah

Dvs - this will screw the game

Well the greater city of chicago is a whole lat larger than a planet in SWG. And SWG planet is 12 sq Km and we sure as heck dont need 100 train stops. That is just crazy.

They should have limted it to 6 per planet.

It takes a minimum of what 50 players in residence to be able to build a shuttle port.

Assuming all of the cities were exaclty balanced (not a chance) that would mean 5000 players with houses declaring residence at exactly the right place to make this happen. Chances... very slim.

And even if it did happen .... SO WHAT?

It will only happen if that is what the players want, and what is FUN.... is there some reason we are now against FUN?

It would actualy make perfect sense to have loads of shuttle everywhere. Heck, some of the current cities have 2 or 3 each. What is wrong with Corelia actualy being a developed planet?

PosiTec, just what size DB have you worked on? And with what languages and which DB structure? Could you tell me, in Big O notation, just how big the SOE DBs are and just how small Player Cities will be since you know all of this?

I didn't think so. Player cities are a lot bigger than what you think. The zoning along can be a real headache. Why don't you just play the game and enjoy and stop trying to force your rule upon others? So you can't play 24x7, big deal. Join up with a city who got founded by people who do play 24x7. If not, wait a month for them to fix any issues on their end, then drop your city hall. Sounds to me like they're being fair. 10 initial cities per major planet to see how they pan out, then allowing outposts from there. I'm sure if you want to whine some more, they could "nerf" it back to 5 cities per world. Perhaps they'll "nerf" you as well and silence your posting rights so the rest of us can enjoy the game. Wouldn't that be a grand day?

This game is supposed to be about having fun. If you're not having fun, then leave. That's your right as a consumer. There's plenty of games out there to pick from. SOE does the best to make everyone happy who plays, but some things they do are not going to be liked. You who are here complaining represent a very small number of customers in the game. So go ahead and complain about how you feel you've been wronged. It gives the more intelligent user base some more real-life drama to watch
