I like this idea. Without the skill point cost, I just think there needs to be SOME sort of committment to the profession displayed.

I like it too make Novice + Master = 1200-1240

Short and sweet.

Im for the Reduction of SP for politician, but not the total removal of them all. The best point against the total removal is not the takeover issue, its the lukewarm politicians, starting cities with 10 people just to see how they like it. City capps are not going to change and if you basically tell everyone they can be mayor, everyone is going to run to get a 500k city hall deed and try to start a city with no real intention of ddeveloping it. And i PROMISE you they will soon find out that its not all that thrilling and the costs are too high. but they wont destroy the city cause they spent so much on the city hall. so you will be advocating the creation of preghost towns all over your servers. and a guild of 52 that decides to start a city will find that all the johny-come-latelies have already taken up all the city slots. Thats my problem with the total skill loss. make it 30 SP at novice and 0 for all other boxes. Thats right, i said it. make them decide how dedicated they are to being mayor from the get go. 30 SP down the drain, then you can level with no more SP loss.

Just another opinion about the 0 skillpoint Politican change:

Mood: Extremely Happy

I've been playing this game since beta and have never lost interest in it. There are many things to do and I never have time to do it all. Sadly, as one the players that wants to do "everything" I am very limited from a skill point perspective. Obviously this is the case for everyone and many have purchased extra accounts to remedy this issue but unfortunatly that is a luxury that I don't have.

I don't know how many people actually LIKE running a city (aside from the small population of current mayors in the game.) There are however a few of us tho that really get enjoyment from planning out a city, designing psuedo-streets, fighting messy terrain, and all in all making a player city a fun place for people to be. Most of these people I know are like me and also want to do everything, and many have purchased extra accounts to do so. As a single account player, I never could sacrifice the skill points elsewhere to do so.

When player cities first came out we were in the Holocron-Profession-Unlock-Jedi-Grind phase of the game. Skill points were vital to get through as many professions as possible to unlock the FSCS. I unlocked on 28.:-p If I had invested points into politican I can forsee that I never would of unlocked as it would of taken much longer to master all of the 28 professions (using the extra skill points in a profession to supplement the grinding such as Doctor instead of having them into Politican which would not of supplemented at all.)

Now I'm in a stage where I am a Master Chef, Master Artisan, Merchant 0001, Force Crafting 4400and 2H 4444. I'm also an Ace pilot. I sometimes swap Artisan points out for Master 2H, additional Merchant skills, or Tailor 0010 (for trim) but for the most part this is how my template is. I enoy it very much. I have the ability to run a successful in-game business and also run out for guild hunts, dungeon raids, or in-space corvette attacks.

My guild (280+ members) has recently decided to take off the Research Center specialization to try other things to attract people to the city. In order to keepthe crafters happy we decided to start a new city right next to our current city to be the Research Center. I volunteered to orginize the whole thing and another player had a Politican account (one of 10 or so that he has) that he used to actually start the city. The mayor characteris also a Master Dancer/Musican buffbot and is generally running 24/7 afk. This makes it very hard for myself, the person actually running the city, to make it work. However, as my template is pretty well maxed out, I am unable to invest enough points into Politican to be successful. My only real option is to dump 2H and put that into politican, but I would become very bored quickly bring unable to spend time with my guild as most of them are combat professionals. I have a hard enough time keeping up with them not being a complete combat character (tho is is kinda fun to see their jaws drop as their guild chef tanks mobs and drops pvpers almost as well as they can.)

Pretty much the point I'm trying to make with all of this babble is that implementing this change is unlocking a new aspect of the game that up until now I have only been able to enjoy on the sidelines. Now, the crafters of my guild will benefit from a person that plays full time as their mayor versus a mayor that is hardly ever on (because they are bored not having enough skill points to play the rest of the game) or an alt mayor that is afk all the time.

This change will bring life into Player Cities. It will improve politics, and put people in to office that will be around often and will enjoy being there. This benefits everyone!

Okay, that's enough babble for one post. Thanks for reading!

one problem with not giving mayors the ability to destroy city halls would be when the mayor wants to quit, but the citizens can care less (about voting or the city).

If a mayor holds a referendum vote related to the destruction of the city 0 votes would count as a "Yes".

If the mayor is quitting do you think he will take the time to call a vote if the citizens do not care enough to keep the city going lol

I for one think the 0SP is a great idea. Politician unlike all other profession is not really a profession.

The essence of a politician is public service (despite the reality of professional congressmen et al.).

Its a great way to get the citizenry involved. I am already cooking up plans for my PA and our City....muwahahaha.

Power to the people!

quick question - do you automatically get your skillpoints "refunded" i.e. when you log on after the patch will you find your available skillpoints increased or is there some mechanism for retrieving them ?

cheers

My suggestion... Since they don't tend to listen to Politicains(devs basically said so at Fanfest, because in their words 'there just arn't enough of us'), if things change and they do make Politican 0 skill points, we can get a lot more people to be politicains (for no other reason then because they can pick up the skill), THEN maybe they will listen to us more.

0 SP... Maybe not the best idea...but as someone said, being a guild leader takes 0 points.

When was the last time there was a change for PA? Does it cost 500k+ a week to run a PA? Does a PA require 55 members to truely function? When was the last time there was a change for PA?

This is going live on Tuesday, 12/25 (In a few hours actually). Politician will require 0 skill points.

It will be interesting to see what the state of the profession is in three months or so.

When I logged in on my Mayor char, my skillpoints were increased. I didn't have to do anything to get them back. I checked all the skill boxes in the Politician tiers. They all say 0 skill points needed now.

As the politician is now a free profession so does all hope that it shall ever play the role in the Star Wars setting that it should. While I am pleased to have the points to spend that so long have kept me from my full potential so displeased am I that we were not even able to delay it. Once done it will never be undone.

The structure maintenance has gone in also but this is something that we should continue to rally against. While there was certainly division on the politician costs I do believe the structure changes are something we have a greater agreement on. Of course in this we shall now compete with the rally cries of the newcommers flooding the profession and demanding their place.

As their place will only come with our sufferage we shall find ourselves beseiged.

It is a sad day for the Politician, Player Cities, and all those who live in them.
