Thread: New TC City Changes 12-4-03
Would posting my view against this even matter?
I have a question for the powers that be, do you read and listen to the posts in these forums? If so a simple acknowledgment from those same powers would be nice.
A lack of foresight seems to be the main issue here, not the fact that some people will attempt to manipulate the mechanics of the game to suit there own agenda. As anyone that has played MMORPG’d can testify there will always be those that seek to power game and manipulate the system to there advantage. If you wish to nerf this then I would STRONGLY suggest opening a total PvP environment server call it Strife, or Conflict, something appropriate and make it a no-covert server. Give something to the more mature players that are interested in playing this game from the perception of a PvP environment.
There is enough players on all the servers that you may even need to open more than one pvp server to accommodate them all, let the care bears have there social clubs, let the real fighters and gamers get on with what they really want to do, PvP.

P.S. To the DEVs: If you would actually do something to fix the things that are REALLY broken, you would gain customers instead of constantly losing them. Don't become another Microsoft that thinks that they can bully their customers as much as they want because the customers have no other option. There are many other MMORPGs out there, and more coming out all the time. You dont have a monopoly, you cant treat your customers any way you feel like.

In a release of a patch notes to the Test Center yesterday, SOE announced that the city militias in SWG would no longer have the ability to /citywarn unwanted guests to there cities and be able to send them to the cloning center. The ones that misuse the command should be the ones that are punished not everyone else or give the player that got the /citywarn the ability to fight back.
It is a serious threat to the sovereignty for all player cities Imperial and rebel alike and is somethingg that should be fought by the community tooth and nail !!!
How else are we to protect our cities that we spent tons of money, time, resourced and player skills to make ??? /cityban is not the answer. Sure that will prevent any unwanted visitor from using any of the city stuff but they still can shop and make a pest out of them selfs.
If a csr can come in game and get a hold of a player that us suposidly blocking a path and making him move his house then you can come in and take care of the player that is misusing the /citywarn command or make it were the player that gets warned the ability to fight back.
Taking out the /citywarn is not the answer and should not be removed.
Plinka,
As your SOE contact, I am informing you that we will once again play "Rush the Nerf out " .
Please announce this for us, the upcoming loss of /citywarn is something the players wont like so we don't want to get the backlash, you should take the heat for us. We are going to also hold up patching in any type of alternative, so throw out some vague promise that we have something cool coming to take it's place, but don't get specific since we have no clue yet. We screwed up POI areas, nobody on our design teams clued in about how an expanding city can overlap our static POIS.Quick, announce that this is for the sake of the playersbefore they realizeSOE can double-talk out of its ASCII.
Also Plinka, pretend to gather for/against info about this 'gameadjustment'while we push it out despite all the comments you gather. Don't bother forwarding us any info on the debate results, we have already decided what we are doing. Since it's covering out butts for our own screw up, you can forget about ever passing the buck onto us, and if you in any way imply that we are covering out butts for our own screw up we will promote you and make you work directly for SOE !
The SOE Powers that Be
Amen!
SOE it's about time you told us the truth! Thanks for that letter! hehe ![]()
If only we could really know what SOE was saying...if only.

This just in:
New title for the Militia will be "Real Estate Agent"
"1. /citywarn has been removed from the game.
This one deserves a bit of explanation. It turns out that the biggest single use that the player base put this command to was griefing other players. It was also being used to "control" POIs and deny everyone equal access.
Since non-consentual PvP was never intended to be part of SW:G, this command has been removed from TC and soon from Live servers.
This means the role of militia is not as originally envisioned as well, so we can expect some possible changes there too, but there's nothing solid I can talk about yet."
Please don't remove the /citywarn function. That would take out a major element of the Player City feature.
At least wait untill the community is given an alternative that we can all accept before this command is deleted on Live servers.
I'm positive that we can find some sort of constructive solution to this griefing problem...because we can't solve a problem if we just sweep it under the carpet.
Cahito,
Mayor of Lowca's Plucky DuckyVille
Sunday night was a good example of why its such a bad idea to remove this. As the LARGE forces came in and got killed they cloned to our center, I stood there and /warn and /ban them. Now im not sure how well the /ban worked but the /warn was a god send, it confused them a bit and gave our militia a chance to attack them, especially the support group that was covert. It pushed them out of the city and into the battle outside our limits. This is the way it should be. We kicked theirbacksides btw
Now remove the /warn from this mix and all we would have is a bunch of coverts standing around wanting on one of our overts to attack their overts so they could fight and we know this is very silly. I am not so sure our victory would have been so glorious especially when they could have just stood around OUR city with no fear of leaving. Not much of a city that cannot control the attacking force now is it?
Even a 1 or 2 minuet warning would be ok as long as eventually we can attack them and get them out of OUR city.
I say OUR city because the /warn is the only real command that makes OUR city OURS. Otherwise its may as well be just a bunch of houses some with a /ban on them.
Why do I have the feeling we are all talking to a brick wall?
You know, Shadowbane is starting to look more attractive again, shame SWG is floping. I had such high hopes for this concept.....
I guess they dont have the mental clarity and programming acumen to pull this game off.
Maybe they should have gotten the Ultima devs instead of SOE......
The main quick fix, since from my understanding the area of protest is that POI's are getting controlled by cities blocking them off etc. Well, as well know you cant place a camp inside a municipal zone/city limits so they already have the code for switching it to cities, just has to be used with another class/instance and some items changed. Seems simple enough with the code already being in place, just pure laziness is the problem. The DEV's apparently decided that it was too much "trouble" to fix the problem, so instead of a bit more coding and changing items, lets take the easy way out and just remove it. Yay way to go, if I could i'd give you two thumbs up ............... your nostrils you nimwits.
The city ban and warn commonds are extremely important to game balance which has been lacking a lot.PvPers come in with 1 or 2 flaged REBELs and half the server covert. All they need to do is engage and the coverts can take their time and aim. Or, coverts will just walk around the incaped people, unafraid of being attacked and DB everyone they come across. The City Ban and Warn commands PREVENT this PvP abuse by allowing people to FLAG those that chose to hide in the shadows of war.
It seems in this world, noone wants to fix a problem. Instead lets remove it completely and hell with everyone else. The issue here is of those that built a city around a HOLO drop rish area and or the crystal caves and are trying to keep players from advancing in the game. Ok...I completely agree with that. so FIX THAT issue. Why jus t RIP the commands away from those of us that have established a huge and well working city in the middle of nowhere and made it into something of a REAL city. Not a griefer town.
You want a solution to the problem, I have it. And its VERY easy. During beta and shortly after people were building on Yavin 4 and other "now no build planets". SoE sent out a mailer saying "The following planets are no build planets: blah blah blah blah. If you have a house on one of these planets, you have this long to move before the house is destroyed." Here is the new announcement. I will help you write it out: "All players cities. We have received reports of cities being built in areas that effect others from being able to effecitvely play a certain aspect of the game. Because of this, we are requiring that all player cities by any location of *whatever* spawns need to be moved to a new location. Any city not moved, will be destroyed."
Then you can lace a radius in those kinda of spawn points and or ingame dungeons and make that area "unbuildable". Walah! You do not ruin an important part of the game for city players and you effectively take care of the problem that has been addressed.
I'm sorry if this seems a rant, but I honestly can not believe they are entertaining and looking to follow through on this. What are they going to do with those Mayors that have trained up that ladder of the tree. give back the points lost? What are you going to do with those that will now come grief the player cities. Will the CSR's be the Militia members?
