Thread: City / Mayor features want list
Taking a step back from the whole /citywarn debate I would like to start "want" list thread on useful commands/features for cities, and their citizens.
So let's start:
1. I'm not the first to suggest this but can we have a /citychat channel to communicate with citizens? I mean we have /groupchat, and /guildchat and "guild" and "citizens" for mail so I don't think this is a stretch.
2. /motd (Message of the Day) that mayor's can set so that when players enter city limits it displays this message.
3. Allow citizens or just mayor to be able to determine ownership on structures within city limits.
4. This one's a little over-the-top: NPC city guards to be able to be "hired" by mayor to guard city as part of militia. They will patrol the city, respawn if killed, and respond to commands of militia members but not leave city limits. Funds for hiring these NPCs would obviously be taken from the city treasury just like with any other city "perk" or building maintenance.
Comments, suggestions? Please continue to add to the list. I'm sure there are more.
City income notices.
Daily or weekly mail summarizing what money in the treasury came from where (diff taxes).
An email for each donation and by whom as it occurs.
Militia III or Militia IV
Factional Ban option for city structures. This would allow you restrict the use of city services such as shuttle ports and cloning centers from those of a specific faction. This is a better option than posting turrets and faction sensors about the shuttle port and cloning center which could result in "accidents" related to load griefing in the name of "security". Let's take away the excuse for this lame and exploitive behavior while ensuring the security for factional cities.

Aye! My absolute two biggest wishes.
Budgeting as it stands is a horror show.
1. More flexible taxation. (e.g. Let me apply a 10% property tax to factories/harvesters but a 5% property tax to homes/residences)
2. The ability to place a LARGE billboard in my city that says, "_NO_ we don't have a Shuttle Port, _NO_ I don't know when we're going to GET a shuttle port since it requires 55 people to be in my town and I'm not about to go out and purchase 20 new accounts just so I can HAVE a shuttle port"
OK, so that one was just a joke, but I'm getting seriously annoyed with that question. I'm as polite as I can be in explaining to them that if I had the ABILITY to place one, I would GLADLY do so.
That's all I can think of.

Try getting people to live on Rori. At least Dantooine isn't secluded from the rest of the galaxy. ![]()
I'd like to see a new citizen type other than Militia. Administrator. They have the ability to manpiulate taxes, grant zoning rights and place public structures/decorationsas the city level and current mayor's skillallows.
Streets... either directly linked to buildings or as placeable 1X1 tiles, placeable only by the mayor (or administrator) Have them become part of the landscape so that the can be built upon.
I'd love there to be a message kiosk!
It could be a circular structure similar to the vendor huts (without a door, of course). You can often see these on college campuses and in European cities (I couldn't find an image of a message kiosk, but found something similar):

It could be tied to the residency list so only residents can 'post' on it.
Perhaps an interface like the Bazaar terminal? Anyone in the city can post a message and give it a catagory (Sales/Auctions, LFG, Hunting Parties, City Issues, Help wanted, City Policies etc.) and the message can have a time limit like 14days. You could even mark a message as Public or Resident Only so that visitors can read about city policies etc. but not the private stuff.
Of course, the mayor/militia would have the power to delete messages if one of the citizens decides to be a jerk with crude postings.
Maybe a post limit? "Pay to post"?
Yes, it could also be a terminal like all the other terminals, but I think a free-standing structure wouldn't get lost amongst the others.
It'd be a lot nicer than our mayor have to drop a satchel named 'Meeting Dec 8 9pm' in the capitol building.
Plinka is already capturing the Mayor's wishlish - you should post in there if you want anyone to pay attention to your suggestions!
Oo! Ooo! Ooo!
And what if there could be a city map/directory option too! Looking for someone's house? Bingo!A particular vendor? Bam!
I'd really love some way to see the whole city layout at once since the onscreen map only shows a little at a time. Haatr, the mayor of Meridian Reach, is doing one heck of a job laying out the city with boulevards, streets, courtyards, markets, etc. It'd be great if we could show it off!

No, Plinka is working on issues, not a wish list. My big wish is for a symbol next to the city name showing what type of player city is it, if the option is used: Imperial, Rebel, Criminal, Trade, or Roleplayer.

Okay, second wish? Statues of each species, of each sex, so we can dedicate them to players more easily. As it is, our next dedication statue is going to be a "strange" one, because it's a strange little Bothan who is getting it dedicated to him, LOL. I'd still rather we had a Bothan statue though.
