Hello,

my name is gubbie and i want to become a mayor. I've been searching for a politican guide for ages with tips on how to gain xp fast and tips from vetren mayors who have been there and done that. If you could post any tips from your experiences as mayor i would be most greatful. If anybody knows of a decent faq that would answer these questions plz send me the link. Thank you again,

Gubbie

How to gain xp fast? In a word - impossible.

The only way to gain XP is to be the Mayor of a city (or to run against the incumbent of an existing city). An incumbent mayor will get the vote of each resident of that city and this entitles you to 100xp per resident per week. If they votefor someone else who is running against you (or vote for you if you are running against the incumbent), then you get 100xp for each vote.

You only gain XP once per week at the city update and at no other time. The level of the city will not affect the amount of xp, except that the more residents you have, the greater the xp you will get. Theoretically, if you were the mayor of a city with 100 declared residents and no one ran against you, you would get 9900xp for that week (you dont get the xp for your residence btw).

On the subject of running the city financially, unless you are planning on charging taxes (property, sales, etc), then be prepared to have deep pockets or kind friends or philanthropic residents. Running a city costs money, and the more stuff you have in your city (Garages, Cantinas, Med Centres, Lights, gardens, trainers, mission terminals, etc) means the more maintenance the city costs each week.

Be careful how you structure your city, make sure that you have city zoning turned ON, and try to steer clear of cross-server lot trades and cross-server bidy swaps as this will result in problems down the track (especially if one day you tire of being Mayor). I'd also refrain from the old "Free house and car if you join us approach". Again if people need enticements to join you, they are much more likely to up and leave at the next best offer they get.

Running a city is like running a never ending marathon. Take it nice and easy, you dont need to grow huge overnight (it wont do you any good anyway as you can only grow one level a week anyway) and above all else, pick a location that will allow you to grow easily. Its not a parttime job either. You have to make sure all your residents are happy or they are more than likely top drift away from the city (or even the game).

It can be rewarding, but remember, its a full time occupation that you cannot resign from. There are only three ways to stop being Mayor, get voted out, destroy the city hall, or quit the game. These are the ONLY options available to you.

No. Pappi can correct me on this but if you take over a Metropolis with a militia in-place; You dont lose your militia, you just can't manage them until you gain that skill.

We used to have a weekly council meeting in Freedom City, but it can lead to some people feeling they are left out or conspiricy theories .........hehe

I think its a good idea.. we also have/had a news letter sent to everyone weekly and always keep the proles updated

You can use Ballot boxes to get peoples opinions but i believe they wipe after server refresh so its one day vote only (grrrr)

Use a member of the militia as an Ambassador (shows they are trustworthy).. Send him/her out to make an introduction and arrange a meeting on your behalf.......

Maybe on neutral ground, or invite the mayor and group to a function at your city

just like real life

I find that the angry citizens will have no problem finding you. The best thing you can to is make your self as avalible as possable, for example my citizens know my AIM screen name email address ect. One or two of my residents have my cell phone number (this was an extreem circumstance, i don't reccomend giving it out).

City councils I like, i wish there was more support for it. Organize it in any way you like im sure your citizens will like it. My city councils in the past have consisted of 2 reps from each guild member plus 2 members at large. I may write a variation of Roberts rules of order for MMO's, but i reccomed using a variation of RRO for your meetings.

some people have told me that mayor requires deep pockets, i'm cool with that becasue my current finacial state is very good. Say i'm visiting a guild leader as mayor, whats a proper way to set this up? proper way to introduce myself and make my enterance. Do u think building a political alliance with another guild is more of a mayors part of the founding fathers?

Gubie,

if you keep asking questions, you'll have nothing left to do as mayor. We'll have done everything for you and ruined all your fun

The way your run the city is different from person to person, from city to city.
You have to feel your way around the situations at hand and figure out how to deal with each guild/person individually.

We can answer your questions about cities (though if you look at the top there's a faq up there that I'm guessing is up to date) but in terms of how you should run it etc. that's for the mayor to come up with and figure out.

Unless you want us running your city too LOL

I understand where u are coming from, if i'm elected i will be running one of the top guilds so i rather not jump in and **edit** everything up by not knowing the basics. I think its important to learn from others mistakes and to build upon them,
