Hello,I will be starting a city her in a few days, (by city I mean plopping down a city hall in the middle of a bunch of houses) the problem I have are the old houses that are still there. I have lived in this area for a while and have seen no activity in these houses so... after I am the Mayor, can I jack the taxes as high as I can to drain their maintainace so the house will be destroyed? Does it work like this? Will they dissapear freeeing up the land, ? including the PA halls that are there as wel?.

Im not worried about my current cits because i will pay the maintainance back to them, but I do need the land (yes even in that huge 150m radius). Is this bad to do this? I have gone around and got the names of the player owner of the existing houses and mailed them my intent on starting the city.

What about the existing factorys and harvesters that have been there forever, I dont think they are harvesting anything cause they have been there a long time , will they eventually have to come up as well? any response is welcome

personally, I would give them some time to contact you first before setting the taxes too high. if they don't respond in a week or two, then place a city down. then you can email them and say "since you haven't replied I went ahead and placed the city here." it's just a more civil way, and it avoids conflicts

Apparantly as long as you give a warning with a certain amount of time for the players to react this cannot be called griefing (see other threads in this forum) - so it seams ok ...

As to jacking up the property taxes ... keep in Mind you can "only" raise them to +50% ... so houses with millions of cr in them will still stay for several months.

its wrong and it won't work anymore... new cities now manually require someone to consent to become a citizen... they must manually "declare residence" after you place a city hall... this is considered a bug by the community, but i think its intentional and a good thing by the devs... to add to this many cities have broken taxing now... so that won't work either... to summarize... its unlikely you can get this to work effectively... if they are truly inactive as you say the buildings will explode when the maintenance wears off...

it doesn't matter if they are a resident or not when talking property tax. it's automatically added to all structures inside of the city. It would only effect income tax, their ability to vote, and the cities ability to log them towards the update count.

thanks for all the helpfull answers... now that my city is up and running on lok,I have a new problem... a player is getting cross server characters to place harvesters for him in a spot thats in the city limits. he leaves them there to collect whatever resourse that is inshift at the time.I saw the harvesters there but assumed they whould move after the shift, well he got mad because my city now sits in the way of his exploit, what are my options to remove his harvesters that are in the city limits? i need all help from a cityban, tax hike (does it effect harvesters) help me fellow forumers', your my only hope

remove the ability to place structure, and raise the property tax. but as a outpost you cant tax. you need to be a rank 2 city (20+ppl) for taxes.

Make it so they need zoning right to place structures in the city. That way only you or someone in teh militia can give them rights to place structures

sicne he's leaving the farm there turning zonging rights on won't help. taxes are applied to harvesters, so he's helping to fund the city. just thank him for his contributions to the city (therby reminding him he's paying taxxes on it all) and he'll probabbly quickly remove them.

hiking taxxes gets problematic, esp. refunding 'good' citizen's fees. I'd save it for a last resort.

Regarding the harvesters it's quite possible they are static installations. As such they are very difficult to get shifted as often they are hired out to other players by the owner in return for lots on another server etc.

My advice would be to find an unpopulated spot and start there.

His having sever swap lots for havesters may be an exploit, but your dropping a city on existing houses that know nothing of your city is a greif.

Think about it. A player 2 months ago....drops 2mil in the house....closes his account till JTL, or till his stay in thehospitol is over...etc. He saw that the Maintence he paid would get him through the time and he would not lose his items.....he may even have left his account active..paying the $15 a month to make sure his items didn't get destroyed. Then you come along and drop a city hall and jack prices up (stealing the maintenace he put in his house..yes its stealing, the money is taken from his house and put in your treasury) resulting in his house decaying month early and destroying all his stuff. The poor guy is going to come back and find all his stuff gone and your city hall sitting there. I doubt he'll be thinking"WOW, I'm so glad they were able to find a good place to make that city" I rather imagine he'll be thinking "That stupid mayor destoyed my house and all my stuff by taxing me! I'm out 2Mil and he has it all in his treasury? I hope he at least named a statue or a fountain after me!".

You GREIF multiple players by abusing your mayor abilities and steal their money and destroy their stuff and then complain because some guy has a harverster farm in your city? And others suggest greifing him as well and destroying his stuff or taking his money as well? Your government is a perfect example of corruption. Nothing like stealing from your citizens in thename of taxes. Would want to actually be a diplomat about it and work out a solution.

You should have dropped the city somewhere else.

Well yes and no. It's hard to find a spot for a city with no houses sometimes.
